March 18, 201412 yr comment_132755 sorry to see Earl go, he had great hands on 3rd down, but he just couldn't stay healthy. Earl always did seem to have great potential; he just never seemed able to put together an entire good season at all. Hope he gets healthy and has a good career somewhere. Report
March 18, 201412 yr comment_132758 Bears didn't use a lot of 3 WR sets last year so Earl, who I believe was healthy all year just never got the reps, letting him go for the much cheaper Wilson just makes too much sense. I remember talking about how Marc never really utilized a 3rd WR back in the day either, he held true to that last year. Report
March 18, 201412 yr comment_132763 Good. Weems was a bad pickup, for too much money, and was never going to be a WR. He was a special teams guy 99.9% of the time, and even then it's not like he was better than, or remotely close to as good as Hester...who just got cut. Report

Could never figure out why they keep Weems around, must have been due to guarantees in his contract. Will be glad to see him go. I liked Bennett but the fact is they were paying to much for his role on this team. It was a stupid contract when Jerry gave it to him. Report
March 18, 201412 yr comment_132786 I think we should run some of those 6 WR sets that worked so well in the CFL for Trestman Report

I just hope we don't ignore our return game. We benefited from an excellent defense for so long. Then it just went to crap instantly. I'm thinking we want Weems back for return reasons. If Hester is only being offered the minimum, Weems is fortunate to be offered anything at all. Report

Unfortunately he used an offensive lineman as a TE. I keep hearing speculation on the SCORE the Bears want to add a playmaking TE to go with or behind the Black Unicorn. Report

That would be very very interesting, and it's another thing I brought up last year. If they go out and grab Pat Sims or Chris Clemons (the safety) then they'd only have 1 clear cut need going into the draft (whichever position they don't sign) so I wouldn't hate to see them address that need in the first round then grab a guy like Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Jace Amaro, or Troy Niklas in the 2nd or perhaps more realistically a guy like CJ Fiedeorowicz in the 3/4 round. All would make the offense borderline unstoppable. Report

We signed special teams guy when we already had one special teams guy (Hester) on the roster. For that matter we also had a slot reserved for Costanzo. Special teams coverage is important but the good GMs and/or coaches will find a guy that can do that and be a decent backup at their position (DB/WR/LB). I can live with one specialist but not three. With three veterans like that on the roster you are not reserving a spot for a young player to develop into a good position player. Report
