why is this helpful. this is a sports talk board, and people are expressing opinions thats what its for! Just because people have questions doesnt mean they are wallowing in misery. Pundits can be wrong, and so can scouts and GMs. So its Ok for people to have questions or doubts isnt it?

To me this could be a Trey Smith pick, major school, taken in later rounds ends up being very good.
-
To me, they wanted Henderson, he got picked and traded back. Skattebo got picked right before our pick, traded back. Brashard Smith got picked, backup plan was Monongai. They waited to the end and still got someone that can play duel RB role. They guess where a player is picked and design their board according but always had a backup plan. Clearly they had targeted some players, on their board. I would say questions on LB and CB but everyone else makes the roster.
-
That was nice tape for a non football player. The combine snubbed him so he got lost in transition. These are the types that start in 2 yrs and play 10.
-
We do have a lot of depth at CB, barring injury, PS
-
People like to say same old Bears but they are not. New blood, hopefully different results.
-
Seems more like a Dennis Allen pick because after the draft Poles said DA wanted more speed at LB and this guy was on their list of targets.
-
DA said pressure on the QB comes from inside not the edges a few weeks before the draft. After I heard that I figured we'd be drafting someone who was more 3-tech than a 2-down run stuffer like Alfred Collins. Plus that pick might come at the expense of an edge rusher although I still wish we added to the DE ranks as well. Poles also said DA wanted more speed in the LB corps and so he got that in Rd 4.

After watching his introductory press conference this guy wasn't the most mature player in his early college career. I'm reading between the lines of what he said but IMO he struggled because he wasn't putting in the work either on the field or in the classroom. I think he's learned a lot in the last year (mostly his words) but I think he's going to get a big shock when he first lines up to cover DJ or Rome. I see him on the practice squad in year 1.
-
Hopefully yes that is true. When the only film you can find is the guy jumping out of a pool it doesn't work.
-
I think he's competition for Roschon for sure. I'm not that enamored with Roschon. I think Roschon has better receiving skills but he's not "good" in that category and while it's reportedly not seen on film it's possible Monangai showed similar skills in his workouts. He sure seems to be better at pass pro than Roschon. It's impossible to know what the team was looking for in a RB or rather who they wanted / where. Poles said they let the board fall to them and it sure looks that way from the outside. I also wonder if the team still has some hopes for Wheeler as a contributor. Which is my way of saying that A) they didn't view RB as an urgent need and b) once their top RBs were off the board they weren't going to worry about it at all. It was interesting to hear the new HC say he was impressed that the draft team worked the board so well and didn't fall prey to filling a need. Does Ben Johnson truly have a long term view on the roster? It's hard to say because the offense got a lot of focus early in this draft. We'll see what that looks like on the field.

I wept a tear of joy when you posted this!

I think a lot of these guys can be paired up with the position coaches they are gifts for, and probably put in a word for? Maybe that's why it looks so weird this year. Johnson - Loveland Randle-El - Burden Roushar - Trapilo, Newman Allen - Turner, Hyppolite Harris - Frazier Bienemy - Monangai
-
I like surprises,he could be the daring of the draft. All big 10 2 yrs in a row does not scream failure. He fits what we need, physical running in short yardage situations. Pass blocks well and NO fumbles in his career.
-
I have no idea about this player but they do. Pundits didn't have him on their radar but after his pro day, some teams did. Interesting to see this play out.
-
Bad oline play / good pad level. Let’s see what he can do with what is hopefully a better oline.
-
There is going to be a lot more competition in camp and this draft reinforced that.
-
I hope you're wrong. To many people think because they didn't draft who they wanted, bad draft. We got 4 good players that can help this team. Actually the first two could be future pro bowl types. Both scenarios could turn out good. They know what they have here, we try to guess what's good and bad. It's something no one knows on the day the draft ended.
-
Trapilo is a RT but they may try him there. People base the draft on weaknesses they think the bears have. I would say maybe they like the roster better than you think . They let the draft fall to them. Once Skattebo was picked, they traded back. They had a backup plan knowing he would probably not be picked. I think the edge I thought they would take, Swinson got picked right before their pick, moved back. I think Turner plays more outside than inside. I also think Dexter may see some snaps outside. As rostered are developed and players are cut , we may add a few cheap additions during the training season. The roster is never done moving forward. If Newman is a good player it may allow us to cut Bates, 4 mil cap savings. You left out Stromberg but if healthy could get a roster spot. Our WR and TE has a lot of talent now and I think Johnson wants them for chess pieces to attack defenses. Last year Detroit scored 70tds. If Johnson sniffs even in that area that means Caleb is swinging it and we have a lot of wins.
-
He's the same size as Jeanty and the same speed as David Montgomery. Pacheco surprised the NFL maybe Kyle does too.
-
I think DA has a big influence on this pick. Like you said can move around to any DL spot. I think he ends up playing more outside than inside. Dayo can play inside. Once this puzzle gets put together it may look much different than it does now. I think this draft does say this coaching staff likes the roster better than the fans do.
-
Easy to say same old Bears but in fact it's not. Johnson and DA clearly influenced this draft. If you thought those were good gets then maybe you let this play out. We are a losing franchise always hoping to get better, every year is a walking on eggshells kind of year. This is a bad spot to judge the season because they didn't draft who you liked. Off-season was very positive and they definitely drafted 4 good football players. As Adam pointed out they didn't draft anyone I liked but I'm not pretending to be smarter than their scouting Dept. Apparently most of you are . I'm a hope for the best person and willing to let it play out. Have fun wallowing around in your misery.
-
I would be willing to say, no one had any of these players on their radar, so what's your point? I take that back, dawhizz mentioned Burden.
-
If someone listed his bio without giving his name, people would be liking the team captain stuff, 4.4 speed, high football IQ but because all the football pundits don't give him attention, it's a terrible pick. Did people rave about Sanborn when he came here, no.
