Here’s what I just did at the ProFootballNetwork simulator: My Draft Picks 10. Colston LovelandTE Michigan 39. Aireonte ErseryOT Minnesota 41. TreyVeon HendersonRB Ohio State 72. Edge, DT, or Safety would make sense.
-
Gotta get EDGE. I'm thinking Emmanwori and Landon Jackson. RB in the 4th or they'll be a bunch of backs available after the draft. Gotta get a fatty for depth with Billings. Zack Pickens is 6'4", maybe he can add more beef and help there.
-
I’d like to get Henderson with a 2nd round pick to work off those two TE sets from the backfield. With two excellent WRs on the outside this set with two fresh RBs at all times will cause huge matchup problems for defenses.
-
I think Johnson eluded to Kmet's role, a couple weeks ago, when he said he needed to be a better run blocker. Hopefully, Cole embraces the suck and remains a leader.
-
Really interested to see how they address edge. On one hand, there's some great names available in the 2nd. On the other, there are so many that there will maybe even still be great names there at the top of the 3rd, whereas other positions are going to start falling off (OT, for instance). RB might be another where you have to decide where the drop off is. Or maybe you address a dwindling position at 39 and then try to trade back 41.
-
Loveland is not just TE though, he is replacing Keenan Allens snaps in the slot too. Kmets salary drops to 8.9 million 2026-27. I didn't want a TE or WR, but after Banks was gone I was stumped and figured Tyler Warren. I don't think Warren would do as well as Loveland in the slot slot, so now the pick started making more sense to me.
-
Two other articles on why Loveland was ranked over Warren with some pretty thorough rationale. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/article/2025-nfl-draft-is-tyler-warren-or-colston-loveland-te1-breaking-down-2-fun-prospects-at-a-challenging-position-191024073.html https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/nfl-draft-2025-why-tyler-warren-actually-isnt-our-no-1-in-tight-end-rankings-for-a-loaded-class/

If you are looking for guys the Bears had confirmed 30 visits with that figure to be in the 2nd/3rd round mix, you have Kaleb Johnson (RB, Iowa), Isaiah Bond (WR, Texas), Anthony Belton (OT NC State), Jonah Savaiinaea (T/G, Arizona), Dylan Fairchild (OG, Georgia), and Andrew Mukuba (S, Texas). Of course, no one reported a visit between Loveland and the Bears, and he ended up being the pick, so they obviously kept some stuff under raps. I would be shocked if TreyVeon Henderson, for instance, isn't on their radar given his skill set and willingness as a blocker.
-
The way the draft is going, I assume all the guys in bold will be gone, plus Sanders, when the Bears draft lol. but yeah, getting both of those guys in the 2nd would be really solid.
-
Kmet is fairly compensated especially relative to the growing cap. If Kmet doesn’t play well - fine - but if this works out I expect this two man advantage at TE to play itself out over the next couple of years as a real differentiator and match up problem - especially when combined with their top 2 wideouts and ideally an explosive back (who can catch the ball too)…makes playing defense with a creative very difficult. This also should help a young QB.
-
At least Poles didn't trade up for him, lol. I guess that is a positive.
-
I disagree - they clearly viewed the other spots as guys with flaws lower on their boards and saw Loveland as a guy with high end upside who combined with Kmet and Moore and Rome legitimate matchup problems. If you dump Kmet you get rid of that advantage in a 12 men situation. I still will have went with the trenches - but it’s clear in my mind that while I value a pick elsewhere, that Loveland is a very high end elite TE prospect, a notch below Bowers but not a ton.
-
Here’s who I hope the Bears get in round 2: Edge - Ezeiruaku S - Emmanwori
-
Based on cap numbers, unless Kmet is traded, they will probably cut him after 2025, especially if a rookie outperforms him.
-
100% concur. So many Bears fans have been saying “trust the process” or “trust the experts,” or mocking everyone else as armchair GMs for literal decades, all while the actual Bears GMs have continually shit the bed. We can never know what would have happened if we made the picks, if the players would have coalesced into a winning team, or if certain combinations would have produced results. But what we DO know is that the Bears’ GMs have unequivocally failed for all but a handful of years since the mid-80s.
-
I am glad Poles didn't get an itchy trigger finger and burn down his draft capital with a trade up. Now the Bears have 2 picks in the next 9 picks. I assume that Sanders will go before the Bears pick, so there will only be 6 players taken by the time the Bears pick twice. RB - Henderson, Judkins, Johnson, Skattebo WR - Higgins, Noel, Burden, Harris OT - Ersery IOL - Wilson, Savaiinaea DT - Alexander, Turner, Norman-Lott Edge - Green, Ezeiruaku, Scourton, Jackson, Tuimoloau LB - Schwesinger CB - Johnson (injury concerns), Revel, Amos S - Emmanwori, Winston, Watts The 4 players in bold have a first-round grade and Green and Johnson were both projected in the top 20. Just based on the numbers, Edge and RB seem likely.
-
That’s fair. I misinterpreted your intent. You’re right; this pick is as much about Poles as it is Johnson.
-
Bingo! That’s why this pick doesn’t make sense unless Kmet is on the chopping block. That’s way too much tied into the TE position, regardless of the amount of 12-package being run. Everyone needs to remember, there is still only one football.
-
Not true. My inference is that Ryan Poles has to justify his job to the owner who approved him to pay a HC that much money. There should be an expectation from the owners to see results on the offense this year with all that investment. The timeline on defense can stretch a bit longer.
-
The problem is Ryan Poles has not put a winning product on the football field. Technically neither have I. Until he changes that there is no data to prove he’s any better than the virtual fantasy GMs here on this board.
-
I think Poles trades one of the 2 second round picks for more capital. If we move back 10 to 15 spots we can get a pick between 90 and 100. Looking at draft Buzz big board, there's several good picks in that range. Charles Grant/OT Darius Alexander/DT Jordon Burch/DE Cam Skattebo/RB Devin Neil/RB Kevin Winston/S Latham Ransom/S Dylan Fairchild/OG
-
The problem with rankings and mock drafts, the NFL teams doesn't make their big board up by what fans think. They do a years research to make picks. Johnson clearly wanted Loveland and I'm glad some smart people agreed. It makes the pick look better but in the end , it's what happens when the games are played.
-
I get you don't like him and bad mouth him every chance you get. I don't think he cares what you think, he's got a great job and makes a ton of money.
