I'll bet the plan is Benedet until Ozzie is ready, with Amagadje, a mid tier free agent, and/or a 3rd round or lower pick competing with him in camp. And Benedet probably wins that, depending on who the free agent is. I thin Benedet did OK this year, and if he can put on some muscle in his base, he should be even better?

I agree with this analysis. Except for the miscommunication being that he didnt expect the ball. I think the miscommunication was he blew the adjustment. But I agree that DJ quit because he didnt think the ball was coming to him. But he needed to undercut the safety. And he made that same mistake multiple times. I dunno if he has trouble keeping his head in the game or what? I also dont know whether Johnson wants to keep him (at a lower price) or move on from him. I can see both outcomes making sense. DJ has tons of talent, but he seems to be making too many mental mistakes, and not giving everything on every snap.

It appears there was in fact a miscommunication but we don’t know about what it was. Regardlesss… I can’t help but heap praise on DJ for making all the other clutch catches he made throughout the season not to mention that incredible OT catch that helped the team beat GB (below). In my mind all those ‘ball out’ efforts offset any one play where he may have lagged a little…if he did at all. If he did, I’m sure Johnson and he will discuss at great length before next season begins. He has done some great things no doubt. He even commented earlier this week on how excited he is to come back next year. I hope that means something positive and he is part of the team again. I think he deserves it.

Our perception and the team's perception are sometimes very different. If you look at previous times that exact play was run, DJ never got the ball. So to me, it looks like he was never expecting it so he was "running" the route. Maybe the miscommunication was that he was getting the ball? Also, one other note about the play that doesn't get mentioned enough. That was a hell of a catch by the DB. He covered a ton of ground in those conditions, laid out full extension and held onto it. If our receivers did that more throughout the year, we probably have a few more dubs.

For sure. We dont HAVE to do anything, but we can do what we want. Now the DL, that needs help Im sure you agree. And we will need a LB and probably a safety, maybe a CB too, but we need DT and Edge both.

The best thing in all this saga is that we don’t have to do anything with DJ. I believe all options are on the table. Despite the occasional miscues our WR corps is still better with DJ. Can he become a means but which we can make the team overall better? Maybe but Poles can evaluate the options without desperation.

Totally agree DJ wont get better than a 3, too bad but it is what it is. The question, to me, is what his value to the team is worth, vs opening opportunities for the other WRs to step up, and the message in terms of accountability. Obviously clearing $16M off the cap is really helpful too, but i dont know enough about contract restructuring to know what's possible in those scenarios if they do want to keep him. Ive heard some pretty crazy claims about how low the numbers might be from the TTNL guy Cars who is really good with this stuff, but I dont understand how its possible with only one void year? But again, I dont really understand that stuff that well. I do think there is going to be a lot of activity this offseason, especially on the defense. At least 4 new starters, maybe more.
