  1. Past hour
  2. As Bears fan, we all should be enjoying this ride. No QB is perfect halfway thru their 2nd season in the league. Williams biggest issue from last year was taking too many sacks, and he has not only improved on that exponentially, he actually has become this magician avoiding sacks. So not only is he not taking unnecessary ones now, he is avoiding almost sure things. It is still Year 1 in a new offense that is new for all players. They changed his stance, they have him playing under center and with play action more than he ever has in his life. Now it is the time to work on ball placement and accuracy. Once he improves there, he will be a top 10 QB until he retires.
  3. Caleb is not a finished product but neither is the rest of the offense. First don’t be swayed by narratives around time to throw. Caleb is not Jared Goff going down in the pocket when the play isn’t there. Extending plays like does is a gift but there should be two distributions for time to throw. One for in the pocket. One for outside. The number of times he uses that gift has gone down but there are no NFL defenders who want to cover for 6 seconds. Likewise the number of throws he makes in anticipation has gone up. There are many moving pieces to this offense with read options on plays. Each game gets a little bit better that’s what matters most. This was a drop by a receiver making $20m
  4. That was ALL he did though, he was on the winning team. Just like Stetson Bennett, Georgia was 29-1 the last two years, and he actually threw for 4K passing yards. The biggest red flag on McCarthy was his inexperience. That reminded me of Trey Lance. There are so few QBs that work out when they have limited college experience. McCarthy can still improve but I don't know if he will even get to a Mac Jones level.

  6. Word. I've honestly been impressed with how well the 'old men' of the group, he and Edmunds, have been playing this year. I think what sets Byard apart is because of his tenure in the league he's had time to learn the flow of the game and play smart. I don't see him trying to lay out people when he goes to tackle them. That's Brisker's downfall (see Mike Brown and Chris Conte). He's pretty aggressive and sometimes pays the price for it. Agreed, because of his age not many teams will come calling...unless maybe he makes another Pro Bowl.
  7. This was my early stat sheet that year before i started watching film. You can see what McCarthy was (very) good at and what the concerns were too. Plus he's younger.
  8. Winning a national championship, having a 27-1 record as a starter and setting records while in Michigan (same school Brady and Harbaugh went to) doesn't get your name at least mentioned? Harbaugh (although biased) seemed to think he was.
  9. Caleb is 1,000 times better right now than JF ever has been. His body language was not pouting because we ran the ball at the end, it was because the offense didnt play better the whole game. The pundits who are saying Caleb is in trouble in Chicago are morons. This is an awful take - it is ignorant and says people who think it know nothing about football. It's not even close. Fields was terrible, and Caleb is on his way to greatness. If you cant see that, you cant see anything.
  10. Everything that wasnt working seems to be working now. It was a Cloudflare problem which a lot of the internet sites must use. These routes would seem to be open every time to me. We have had more TE involvement over the last few games. Need to do more.
  11. Im all in on Caleb as being hopeful for the progression of all players on the team. The question I am asking is ; if Caleb is throwing below 60% next year at this time, and making the same mistakes, (holding the ball to long) overthrowing WRs) at what point will BJ consider another QB? This is Caleb's first year with BJ and this offense, Im not expecting a top 5 QB this year but if we dont see progress? Example is Tevor Lawrence, a fist player taken and he definitely did not deserve a 275 mil extension? Of course one year from now that will depend on if we are winning . If we are still winning besides Caleb's mediocre play, he will stick with him but for how long? My history was I was all in on Justin and hoped he would get better, he didnt and should have accepted that sooner, and now that a ask the same question about Caleb, that's the wrong comment to make? It will be his 3rd year. I have seen many pundits question Caleb's body language at the end of the game when he seemed upset that BJ did not rely on him to win the game for us when he ran the ball 3 times and kicked the FG? If that is true, will that be a problem going forward?
  12. I agree with most of your points. I think with going for it on 4th down, you should never do it beyond the 50 yard line unless your behind and time is running out. Its situational and depending on who your playing when in the red zone. We are starting to identify as a power running team as our OL plays better so once we can get a signature short yardage play, I would understand it more but we havent established one yet. I think losing LaPorta will have a large effect on their offense and the center position has already shown problems. Playing the Eagles is an outlier. Decker and Sewell both had some injuries' issures going into that game .
  13. I remember after the first two games on X people were saying Byard was slowing down and people complaining about his play and our S choices in him and Brisker coming off an injury. Then brought up how we should have drafted one high. People just have to let the season play out when judging players. You cant go by one or two games. Poles will make him an offer after the season and why would he not want to stay on a up and coming team and play for DA. At 31 I dont see anyone offering a big contact to him.
  14. this is a problem i have been having with the bears coaching staff myself. going for it on 4th down is fine if it's late in the 4th quarter and you are down, or if you are down multiple scores in the 4th midway through and time is a factor. but going for it around the 50 or even in our own territory to me is bad play calling especially when your defense can't stop anybody. in this game they conceded points to the vikes by doing this. in the first 3 quarters if you are in field goal range you TAKE the points. this has been going on league wide and it's semi pro or amateur football that never would have flown 25+ years ago.
  15. T-Mobile and DuckDuckGo browser and no issues either with wifi or cell network. Brave browser on the computer, or Epic.
  16. I have TMobile, and I can sign on with safari on my iPhone when on cellular - I hope that helps?
  17. I can only log on when on wifi. For some reason, my cell internet browser cannot find www.talkbears.com. Did something change on this site? I use duck for search engine and have Verizon.
  18. Other notable injuries: Steelers: Alonzo Hightower LB -pectoral (usually not good) Jalen Warren RB -ankle, Darius Slay DB- concussion. Eagles: Lane Johnson OT- liz franc fracture- testing but feared out fo season Packers- Josh Jacob's RB- knee bruise - might miss a game but should be good by Bears game
  19. Line has slid to CHI -3, I am sure it will move a little more once it is official on Rodgers. They are saying 50/50 right now lol.
  20. I am sure their fanbase is split, some will want to give him more time. Others are probably done with him. He did nothing in college to warrant being a first rounder. Williams, Daniels, and Nix all had the pedigrees. Maye had a shorter period of success but that plus his stature made him at least enticing. Everyone knew Penix wouldn't last with 50-year-old knees.

  22. I never expected the wheels to fall off. They have too many vets and talent for that to happen. From an organizational standpoint it’s the fraying or cracks around the edges I watch for that slowly builds up. Our frayed bits and pieces are slowly being glued together. On the other hand they seem to have more cracks now than earlier this year. I expect they’ll rebound next week but what does next year look like?
  23. The "offensive downfall" was figured to be more cataclysmic with Johnson gone and Center Frank Ragnow retiring. Yet Goff's stats appear to still be on par (or close) to last year. What I saw late in last nights' game was (as you mentioned) the oline's inability to block and Goff's statue-esque non-movement in the pocket which will kill them every time.

  25. Yes they are. Campbell took over play calling. I thought they hired an OC to replace Johnson? Detroit’s defense looked good.
