If they are considering playing Ozzy over Wright, that means they dont like what Wright is doing. No way they flip him. The new coaches dont look at where someone is drafted, just how they are playing at their spot. No one has grabbed their attention playing LT, so its choosing the least amount of mistakes. It appears they are giving Theo every chance to win the LT job. I would say Jones inconsistant play has him on his way out. They appear to not like the tape on Ozzy , he took no LT reps in practice yesterday. Could Theo be the LT and Ozzy the RT to start the season? That guess is as good as any.

It's like they are tearing Braxton down to the studs, while simultaneously telling the young guys to go take it.

yeah, we are a good Edge away from having a real D line. If Booker really emerges, we should be dangerous on D.

thats good of the coaches, and bad that a player hasnt forced them to name him.

Preseason Week 2 Game Thread - Bills at Bears, Fox, SUN, 8-17, 7pm Central

I dunno. Giving Trapilo reps at RT is good for a baseline, so you know how he'd be if you need it. It also should motivate him. Trapilo's college film looks "boring" it's consistent and never looks dramatic. He kind of just does his job without fanfare. Maybe the Bears want to see a meaner streak in him. Nothings decided yet, but someone needs to step up and take the job. I hate the idea that someone just gets chosen without having served notice. -
If the light is turning on for Booker this defensive front could be a good one. I think Dayo has also been challenged to make more plays because in the last week he’s been more aggressive in his pass rush and getting home. He has non existent the first half of camp.

I think the biggest worry I have is if Wright ends up being mediocre. Jones was a late pick - Wright was a high pick. Let’s see these tackles step up. I also want to see what sort of dude Trapillo can be on right side - pretty clear he isn’t there yet on left side and the real risk is that might always be the case. -
Yes and frustrating but these coaches refuse to just hand it to someone.

Y’all have a lot of confidence in preseason reporting. I’d have been good with Josh Simmons but I do wonder about those work ethic questions and how that would fit into Ben’s culture. Ersery too could have helped. We’ll see how it shakes out by week 8. i watched Bears reports and we had a lot of good plays against the Bills. I watched Bills reports and they were happy because they had a lot of good plays against the Bears. The one player that caught their eye as a problem: Rome.

I hear Ersery is killing it too. Anyone hear anything about how Banks is doing? -

I was afraid of him at 10, but if he starter material for the Chiefs, I feel we missed out. I was more sold on the G/LT tweener Banks that once he was selected i was lost. Happy for Loveland, but damn now we still might need a LT. -

Should have taken Simmons, killing it at KC. Afraid bc of his injury but the guy has feet. -
I"m not that worried about LT because at least there are 4 options roughly as good as Braxton Jones so I know what the floor is. Can we make it better than that? I sure hope so but as Ben Johnson said today it might take some time, even into the season to get it right. Ben was clear about Ozzy that he's too slow off the snap, but he's much better at RT. He likely has good enough traits to get where we need him to be but switching from RT to LT hasn't been as easy as hoped. Ben likes what Theo has done at RT and decided to try him at LT but again it's going to take him time to adjust. It'll be interesting to see him this weekend. Kiran is just a wildcard...there was no mention of what they think of him. My biggest concern with Braxton is the mental lapses where he gets beaten very early in the snap. It's one thing to lose the rep 2s into the play, another to lose inside 1s. His good plays are acceptable but I suspect at minimum Ben wants to find a more consistent floor or Caleb is going to come out of the some the play action fakes and get leveled.

this sounds all correct. Its so late in the year for not knowing who your LT is.

That won't happen at this point of camp. Just listened to a great interview with Thayer and he was on top of everything. Starting with Braxton, he said he probably won't be at full strength until after the bye. He was also critical of him, saying he hasn't put in the necessary work in the weigh room in previous seasons. This year is the anomaly, due to the injury. But do we trust that he'd do the hard work for the new staff? Trust me, leg day is the least popular day in the gym. He stated that Thuney is the best left tackle on the team as of now, but doesn't want him in their until all else fails. That's why it's won't be Wright. Lastly, he discussed the reps situation with the team. New system and new cadence is going to take around another 2500 reps to get it locked in, so he expects the playbook to be simpler the first couple of weeks. The linemen and receivers are committing a high level of false starts and illegal motion penalties as a result. They have Caleb mixing up his inflections and that is the cause. The rest of the offense needs to remember the snap count and not the inflection. Side note: They had Mike Tirico on before Thayer and he thinks all four teams can compete for the division and/or the playoffs. He was also at practice and said Caleb looked better than last year and overall good. All of this info can be heard on the ESPN Chicago app. Waddle and Silvey show between 3 and 4 Chicago time.

Ive wondered this since the day we drafted Trapilo. Im not a fan of moving people around, but i can also understand this move - but better to have done it in June, so i think its not likely? Probably more a matter of seeing how Trapilo would be as a swing tackle?

I spend $10 a month to get their content. Hes Ok this time of year, but before the draft they break down HOURS of tape on players and the commentary is amazing. They usually do entire halves of games, often 5 or 6 games, so you can see the players in context, not just highlights. Also, once the season starts they do amazing tape analysis on the games too, with a special look at the OL, since his Dad was a college OL coach, and two of his uncles were coaches in the NFL and at least one was a head coach. Shayne Marshaw is also great with the roster move stuff. There is no doubt Phil is abrasive, and spends too much time on himself, and how the show battles people, but when there is analysis, it is top notch!

If they dont like his play at RT, why would they flip him?
-
The downfall is it doesn’t sound like Wright is shining either.
-
The real wild card is at some point does Wright flip to LT and we see Trapillo at RT.
