Does Byard have injury proof knees?

Coby Bryant suffers knee injury - will miss 8-10 weeks
This went south quick. Now saying 6-8 months due to knee surgery, out for the year. FFS, I know they wanted to get faster, but probably should've kept Byard and paired him with Thieneman.

Trapilo back sooner than expected
OK so here's some actual positive news about Trapilo. Poles saying a training camp return is possible definitely puts his timeline ahead of expectations. Even if he isnt back for camp, the fact that that's a possibility says a lot. https://x.com/HogeAndJahns/status/2087223937868423616

A defensive coach like the Flus wants a great punter. The Bears have things going right for the first time and having the HC/QB right makes it much easier to build going further.

To be fair, with Ben around there’s no longer any reason to feel like a punt is your best offensive play.

I think BJ has changed Poles' draft mentality. We've gone from BPA need to BPA fit. If Ben were around, I wonder what the Tory Taylor pick would have been.

For sure, I think there IS something amazing going on, and i think it starts with Ben Johnson. He's been drafting differently than a lot of us (myself included) have been able to predict, but he's added true talent to the team in early and late rounds both. The future sure looks bright.

Getting back to basics of football. Wanny is another pundit I like As a former coach he won’t call out players too often but if it’s not good you’ll know it When he starts talking positively about guys like VDB, Wills, and, to my surprise, Hayden Large then I think there is something good going on

this is it. and I even get it. how can someone truly keep their finger on the pulse of like 80 teams in pro sports? narratives and shortcuts stand in for insight. But if you watch a team closely, and especially if you watch tape of the game after the game is over from the end zone angle, when you can rewind and watch again on certain plays, then you can start to say you know a team. If all i do is watch the game, Im watching the ball, the score etc, it's hard to focus on on what just a WR who didnt get the ball is doing, or what pulled a safety away from a spot etc. So i understand why the media machine is the way it is, but I dont understand believing it. So many of the Chicago blogsters and sportswriters are narrative guys. I truly wonder if they even watch the Bears game more than just the once while it was live?

National media are good for the big things like FA where the agents are working the entire league. There are some small nuggets during draft time but they focus too much on first round prospects and there is too much group think.

I think that was what we were thinking a month ago as you said, so not earlier than expected. I hate stuff like that, especially when I am so thirsty about the LT anyway. I'd LOVE to hear something about Trapilo! Wannstedt had good things to say about Wills today, and he WAS a top ten first round pick with great college tape, but he flamed out in Cleveland before he even got injured. Hes interesting for sure, because hes raw, hungry, talented, and Roushar (and Armstead) are working with him. So cool. But I'll believe it when I see it because his last few weeks of NFL snaps in Cleveland 2 years ago were very ugly. I still think one way or another it's not gonna be Braxton, because I know who that guy is. And it's just not good enough.

Former Falcon Returner/WR - Ray Ray McCloud signed to replace WR Kyron Hudson who was waived. With Zavion out, they also need a body to take his ST reps

They are a month late on this and all the local X writers took the bait thinking they broke a story. Trapilo will return but instead of missing the entore season asbexpected, he might return in November if ahead of schedule (9 month timeline)

right. hell I'd even take it more seriously if he added a line about WHY he thinks that! Like a "sources say" I mean that could still be a lie, but without even that the other media people echoing it "Breer reported that" it's just nonsense.

This is why repeating media narratives is so dumb. Yup. Context matters. These writers make their money through speculation and clicks. Unless I hear it from Schefter, Rappoport or the Bears, it is not news worthy. There is a difference when someone actually witnesses something.

This is a perfect example of media narratives. And dont get me wrong, if you read my comments about the LT situation, more than anyone here, I want Trapillo back! But one guy (Breer) says one line buried in an article about something else, and everyone goes nuts. If he had any new info, that would have been included because it would bring clicks and eyeballs. Instead, my GUESS is that he was commenting on the picture from last month of his working out without a knee brace on. And he was working on upper body in the picture. So now this one comment blows up into a narrative, repeated by other writers, and then by people on this board. And there is literally NO new information. This is why repeating media narratives is so dumb. There's nothing there. Nothing happened. The subject is one we are all dying for information about, so any comment becomes something to talk about, when there is literally nothing there.

They may have him on the 53 so he can work back to when he can get ready. Its great to have problems with several above average players on the line for a change. BJ working the schemes and Roushar has to be a good coach to have these results. We have several OGs that look good and two starter type Cs on the roster. The best OL group over the last ten years.

I always think we should keep people for depth if we are serious into a SB run but if Willis, Kiran, and Ozzy back early in the season, the room is way to crowded. Now I think Braxton is the best one in the room but 4 LTs that show signs they can play, causes me to think stupid thoughts like we could trade and a descent pick back.

Easy walk through today. Luther was walking around with no limp. Zavion walking around with no limp. Cam Lewis returned to practice. Kyler Gordon. Shamar Turner made the trip along with Ozzy.

It’s not dependent on severity of the injury. PUP would surprise me because he’ll have a lot of work to do getting back into playing shape.

It’s too soon to know what we’ve got but I wouldn’t start by trading the player that is in the lead of the group. For sure we’re not keeping 3 at LT with ozzy returning this season.

Everyone's body is different, the average is a number, I think its possible he goes on the pup list and then would he be ready to go 6 weeks into the season?

So far, the only long type injury is Coby Bryant but most of the injuries arent serious as presented. Washington lost Tunsel, I hate to even say this, but with good vibes coming from Willis and Kiran, could we get a decent return on Braxton Jones in a trade? I am noted for thinking we need to keep everyone to make a SB run but if all the LTs look doable, why not? Theo seems to be the backup at RT, there will be one extra body at LT if all show well. What do you think we could get? A 4th round pick? or am I dreaming?

I saw this nugget from the Albert Breer article. Recovery is typically 6-12 months, which is a huge range of outcomes. We are 8 months removed from this injury, and 9 is the halfway point in the range. Could the Bears get Trapilo back in October or November? That would be huge. Plus, a lofty Colston Loveland comp, questions at safety and more.

VDB keeps moving up and now this news is starting to make me optimistic about our Dline. We desperately needed one interior pass rusher. What we don’t know is if the rest of the Dline is so average or bad that it’s easy for him to standout. We do know we have a good Oline inside. I’m watching for news on who he’s beating on the Oline to see if I should get on the hype train. There’s been no talk here about the backup DBs we recently signed. I really like the pickup of Xavier Woods. He adds lots of experience and he’s a good football player. He is a bit limited in some aspects and a 25% missed tackle rate likely explains why he was available. Now we roll into the season with two good starters, and then Hicks and Woods as backups along with Cam Lewis. Backups are all backups for a reason but with that much game experience on the bench I think we have the best depth at Safety in a very long time. If you geek out on film as I do then here you go: The Bears also added a promising depth piece at CB in Beanie Bishop. He’s little (hence the nickname?) but quick. Definitely not fast but as a UDFA he had some productive snaps for the Steelers in 2024 after making the 53 and ended up starter. Then cut, goes to NO, gets suspended for 3 games but don’t know why and now he’s here. I said he’s not fast but I see now on his pro day he ran a 4.39 forty I just don’t see that in pads. The Wikipedia link has the full pro day stats. He’s a football player player type, I like how he fights through blocks but for a 180lb guy I have to think there are plenty of times he just gets pushed aside. Seems like a fit in the slot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beanie_Bishop "Bishop signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2024.[14]Bishop notably made the Steelers' 53 man roster out of training camp as a UDFA, even earning a starting job in the secondary after an impressive offseason. During a Week 7 game against the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football, Bishop intercepted two passes from Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, both of which would ultimately lead to touchdowns for Pittsburgh as they won 37–15.[15] During a Week 8 game against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football, Bishop secured a game ending interception against Daniel Jones, Pittsburgh won 26–18.[16] Bishop was named Defensive Rookie of the Month for October having: 16 tackles, 5 pass deflections, 3 interceptions, and 2 tackles for loss."
