So the Bears end up with a DL of Sweat, Sweat, Jarrett, Sweat? 🤣 I like it.
-
That would be phenomenal with this draft class. It's deep at all of our needs...

I'm up for whatever the bears decide to do as far as trade people, cut people but what is realistic? In a situation with no cap space, we are in different scenario than last year. We can't just overhaul the defense with no money. When you trade or cut someone we have to replace them. In the case of DJ we have some backups but we don't with Dexter. If you're telling me 3 rookie DTs is better than having Dexter as one on the field isn't realistic. He's not a star but he's not chump change either. We have to draft 2 DTs with Dexter here and now we need 3 replacements and add to the DE room? We don't have enough high picks or cap money to do that. In saying all of this I'm not in love with Dexter, it's just about realistically what we can get done in one year.

Let's play best case scenario: Reports of interest in DJ Moore as well and for a possible Day 2 pick. Hard to say what will happen but in a best case scenario we get a 2nd Rd pick for Bagent (more proven and cheaper than any 1st Rd pick, better than any other QB in the draft). DJ Moore nets us a 3rd Rd pick but there is suspicion we might have to eat some of the salary to make that happen. Edmunds I think can net at least a 4th Rd pick. IMO the Falcons and NFL still owe us a 3rd Rd pick too. We'd have 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 4th.

If they can get ANYTHING for Edmunds, it would be amazing. It will be interesting to see what they do with Moore, or who he goes to. LVR's best WR was Tre Tucker last year after trading Meyers at the deadline. Moore would be a big upgrade and fit well with a rookie QB, assuming they go with Mendoza. It feels like there will be at least 5 new starters on defense this year. That unit really needs to be revamped.
-
If we could get a 3rd for him, that would be incredible. I expect more like a 5th tho, but with three teams interested, maybe a later 4th?
-
Seeing reports that 3 teams are interested in Edmunds

Should be an exciting week. Read this morning there might be 4 teams interested in Tremaine Edmunds, so to get a pick even if in 2027 would be something. As much as I hate to lose DJ, he is our biggest chip to have a seat at the table and play the game (FA). The Bears need cap space to sign a LB like Demarco Jackson at 2yr 11/12 mil to replace Edmunds. Kevin Byard, who's leadership goes a long ways will cost around 8 mil a year. Thats about 13-15 mil they need to create just to replace two positions that would be smart to bring back short term while the Bears draft long term solutions. I can also see them trade for a 1T to replace Billings since the FA cupboard is bare. Send DJ to Pittsburgh for Keenu Benton DT and DE Nick Heiberg whose contracts expire after this year. Steelers have 39 mil in cap space and pairing DJ with Metcalf would give them a scary dual. If it takes throwing in Gervin Dexter, id still consider. Benton at 1T and Heiberg as rotational edge would fill 2 needs.

Yes and that will include all the other teams who are interested in trading for our players like Bagent, Moore.

With legal tampering window opening a week from tomorrow, you would think the team would want some clarity on who they can afford before that window. So ultimately, by the end of the week, whatever trades, extensions, restructures they plan on doing should be complete. It is like planning for what you are going to do in poker before you are dealt your hand, there are too many scenarios to plan for, you only have a rough idea what you will do. So you would think they would want to know as early in the process as they can to give them more time to plan in reality and not in what-ifs.

It does look like a stunt there based on the angle of the other DT. I thought so too, but like you say, he should still he be up out of his stance. And there are lots of examples like this one. He's just slow off the ball. He certainly hasn't become the active 3T that we were hoping he'd be. And it's not like hes a BJ or DA "guy" either. He has value. For us in a rotation, maybe for someone else in trade? Hes far short of the starter I hoped he'd be, but he's not a bad 2nd stringer for us. I just feel like a housecleaning is coming, but I dont have any proof of course.
-
Yeah there are so many options, I am nowhere near predicting what we are going to do, but I have a strong feeling we're going to do SOMETHING and not just a little something. And when you add to that Ben Johnson's aggressive nature, I cant help but think there are going to be tons of new starters. And how we will accomplish that is going to be VERY interesting. This year for Poles should be really fun to watch.
-
It also appears he’s about to run a stunt since the other DT is running towards him. Even that doesn’t prevent him from standing up and taking a half step forward. At least sell it a little bit.
-
I agree this year has the same feel of a big overhaul coming on the D like we saw last year on offense. After listening to the press conferences at the combine the Bears are open to all options. The D will likely look dramatically different in ways I can’t predict. To that end it appears trade talk on Bagent is heating up.

Good Lord, the QB has the ball...🤣🤣🤣

Not to be rude or fighty or anything like that, but this is the perfect example, because last year were were debating the OL, and Stinger was saying the same thing. He said no more than 2 new faces on the OL, and that Jenkins would get better etc. I'm not mentioning it in terms of wrong or right, but more in terms of whether the team will look outside the roster for new faces, or be more inclined to roll it back with guys who arent making it. Whether we keep Dexter or not, he wont be a plus starter for us. AZ54 makes a good point about keeping him as a rotational player, and others talk about getting some value for him in the last year of his contract. But either way, no one in Halas Hall is penciling Dexter in as a starter at DT. We have to get significantly better on the DL, and Im expecting some new faces. I honestly think Turner is more trusted at this point than Dexter for our future. neither is someone you can count on to be a leader, but Turner has an untapped future, and we can see who Dexter is. Look at this frame from the playoff game. Sweat is already two yards upfield, and Dexter hasn't even started to move yet. This was the knock on him coming out of college, and it still persists.

The crazy part is that the Bears biggest needs are the strongest in this draft class. DE, DT, LB, and S are strong. Even LT has some quality depth. It will be exciting once fa starts to see how the Bears create cap
-
Did you think the Bears would land 3 stud FA O-linemen and draft one? 4 new starters that transformed the Bears offense. If Poles, BJ, and DA think trading him helps the Bears, they will do it. Its not ideal, but nearly all the players are on the table, even Bagent, if it helps them get the team to the top. They would not trade him for less than it would take to replace him, the Bears are not in that phase.
-
If we trade Dexter that means we have to draft 3 DTs. If you bring one in at the same money you're paying Dexter in FAgency then I understand but find that player. No one is giving us more than a 5th rounder if we were lucky. I'm not married to him but find someone making 2 mil a yr that gives you 6 sacks. If you go we 3 rookies instead of a vet , you're not getting help at another position.

I keep seeing Trent Williams becoming available, due to SF being in cap hell...
-
That isn't so bad, we should be able to manufacture an easy $50M with regular moves. Bears are also like 5th in least amount of dead cap. Watching all the moves this year is going to be really interesting.
-
It really sucks that 8 out of the top 9 are not home grown...

Cap numbers were released today. Bears are officially $6.5mil in the hole. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/chicago-bears
