So just for the record Mongo, I didnt set out to agree or disagree with you, I just looked at the film and wrote down what i saw. I appreciate you calling me a master debater, but just so you know, I dont pick a side to be right, I try to just say what i think is right. I certainly wasnt trying to specifically say you are wrong. Scientists gather data and form conclusions, Laywers start from conclusions and find data to support their side. I like to think of myself as a scientist. I didnt have a preconceived notion when I started the analysis. In fact, when I saw the first couple of reps from Jones I thought "Hmmm Mongo is right, this will be interesting." Lastly I dont believe I have been anything but respectful to the members of this board other than Stinger. I wont go back into that of course, but i dont believe I have ever been disrespectful to you, or wanted to fight with you. Not saying you were disrepsectful here either - you werent! But Im not here to take positions so i can defend them. I just take positions I believe are true until i see otherwise. Lastly to Jones analysis, the two plays you didnt agree with me on were both bull rushes, and in each, Jones stayed in front of his man but got walked back into the pocket. he didnt get beat to either side i fully agree. I dinged Trapilo for a similar rep too. And one of the two reps I didnt even count as a losing rep, it wasnt in yellow. But even if you remove those snaps, Jones gave up a sack, and got beaten outside and inside, so I still stand by my analysis. But more importantly, I respect you and almost all the members of this board. And despite how Stinger and I go at it, I dont ever want anyone else to feel as if i am attacking them for sport. I dont do that. I just want the best guy at LT, and right now no one is the clear or obvious winner in that to my eyes. Trapilo has an edge based on the one preseason game I saw, but I havent seen the practices etc to know what the coaches do.

Gonna be harder to hold the ball in the pocket with two hands until he gets full strength back.
-
AZ’s skimmed down analysis. Trapillo is just stronger than Jones and it showed up everywhere. Most importantly to me is that Trapilo has quicker feet and he’s better at taking baby steps to mirror pass rushers. Kinda surprising for a tall guy.
-
I think Braxton has given all he can. I know who he is, and who he isnt. Trapilo on the other hand, is raw and less known. I dont know it I will like Trapilo or not. In 6 months I could be calling for his head, or calling him a stud - I dont know. If Amagadle is better, then i want him out there. This isnt about having a favorite, or wanting to be right (I dont think Ive even said Trapilo is good yet?) I just think Braxton is fatally flawed, and we need to move on from him. Is Trapilo or Amagadje ready to do better there? I dont know yet.
-
Nah, I tried to do it fairly, because like I said, I want the best guy out there. As for calling Trapilo early, if you go back I said I had a gut feeling, but no evidence, so i wasnt calling him at all? This isnt about trying to be right - its about trying to get it right. Also, I said if they were close Trapilo would get the nod. Neither of them looked great. As for the false start, it absolutely was, you can see it ont he film easily. Not that it mattered, because it wasnt called, but it is there, and i wouldnt make a decision on it anyway? But no, I wasnt using language to slyly try to prove anyone wrong. When i finished my Jones analysis, I didnt think Trapilo was going to be any better, having remembered his bad reps from when I watched the game. i was surprised in analysis at all the good reps between. Basically, Jones got burned a bunch of different ways, and Trapilo got burned the same way each time. Thats what I saw. But no tit for tat or jumping into lanes. I just saw what I saw, and I took the time to write it all down. And the verbiage I chose was just what I wrote down as I saw it - my actual product here is the analysis above the notes. The notes were just for me, and i included them so you could see my thought process.

I understand, and agree in both contexts and cant wait for his 500 word essay explaining why you dont understand what he is trying to say. Never read his long replays to answering anything , it is just repeated words he already used. My notation of Adam was just sarcasm on him having both positive and negative on the same subject. I try to fit humor in some of my responses but it doesnt always get noticed as humor.
-
I don't think you understand. The bias wasn't his opinion. It was the verbiage he chose. Leading context is a political ploy. PHX knows exactly what he's doing as he a master debater with a firm grasp of the English language and I respect him for that. But him jumping in my swimming pool to convince you that I don't know what I'm talking about deserved the rebuttal it received. Context is always key. I'll also add that I don't have skin in the game regarding who wins the job, as I like them both for it. The only ones I'll argue against are Benedet and Kiran. PHX called Trapilo too early and I'm gonna have fun with it till it's decided. And your claim that Adam is the only one without bias is pure bullshit. I've called him out many times for it, as he has me. That's what we are here for. I can also assure you that this will not go unanswered by PHX. He's in his lair formulating his rebuttal as we speak...💥🍻 Bear down!

Everyone has bias. Members on this site always favor the redderick about the Bears. People I may have liked in the draft, I have a tendency to root for, people I didnt like , I tend to look for negative reviews. 5 people can look at a rep and have different opinions about it. You cant argue sacks and penalites but can assign blame to a QB or OL, or bad play call. Nobody likes PFF very much but they just look at every rep, and assign a grade. The bias is in how they grade a rep. On the rep the defender took the inside lane on Braxton, he blew it but the timing of the play got us a TD. You can scheme a bad OL play where it doesnt affect the outcome. So in my outlook, it didnt matter he blew it. On a personal grade for Braxton, worse play of the day for him. IMO, the only person on here that is somewhat lacking bias is Adam, he is critical and praise a player sometimes in the same post.

I'll start by saying, nice format for your analysis. I like the down distance and time stamp. Really good viewing. On to the play: That play was completely by design. I don't know what the pros call it, but we called it a chip screen. Won rep. He absorbed the contact and maintained leverage. Won rep. Not a false start. Not walked back. See above... It's obvious in your wording that you have a bias. It's ok in a debate, but I don't do that when analyzing. I only rebutted the first three that you highlighted. Can't swallow any more of it. What really concerns me about your analysis is that I really don't believe you understand wins and losses in the trenches. It's hard in there. They are playing against nasty humans that are designed to defeat what you are doing. I didn't realize this was going to be a "tit for tat" but, you jumped in my lane with an agenda.

I dont think (didnt care ) comes into play. Fatigue is the most logical choice. He is fighting to keep his starting job. He wouldnt be on the field if the team thought he didnt care.
-
Great breakdown @BearFan PHX Braxton looked terrible in his last few snaps. He was either tired or didn't care, either way, that was concerning to see. My biggest concern for him is when he loses a rep, he really loses it like 100-0, and the QB gets killed. Trapilo may lose a rep, but he doesn't leave a direct path to the QB.

OK, so after 1 round, here's where I see the Jones / Trapilo competition. Both make good choices in the run game, and deliver a good punch. Trapilo sustains more run blocks. Trapilo is much more stable as a pass protector too, except for getting beaten outside on a hand chop move. That's a problem that needs to be corrected, but its one thing, so I think they can do something about it. Neither one stepped up and took the job. Both need work. Trapilo is stronger than Jones. Trapilo has lots of upside, and Jones has probably reached his ceiling. I am much more comfortable with Trapilo in general, but id need to know the hand fighting issue is being solved. I was worried about the LT all offseason, and I sure hope it isnt a problem this year. Right now, I think Trapilo is a good step ahead of Jones, but Trapilo has to improve with his hands or it could be a problem. But even still, getting beaten outside for pressures and near pressures is much better than getting beaten inside and on bull rushes. If 10 wins the game, the score is Trapilo 7, Jones 5 right now. Trapilos arrow is pointing up and Jones' is pointing down. That's what I saw anyway. I put all the timestamps and stuff if anyone wants to debate what I saw on any particular play to come to this conclusion. It's good to see and score the tape. Makes it all clear. So Im not gonna debate any generalized "I thought he looked good out there" type stuff. I mean, we are all entitled to our opinions, but if you want to really challenge my conclusions, which is a great thing, lets talk about specific plays that ive scored here to make those points? By the tape.

OK, and here is Trapilo's scouting Trapilo had 36 reps. 25 passes, and 11 runs. Out of 25 pass reps, Trapilo did poorly on 5 of them (and well on 20 of them) on 4 reps, he gave up pressures or possible pressures to the outside on 3 of those, he lost the rep because of a hand chop in hand fighting he also lost another hand chop but recovered to ride the guy out so all from the outside, and usually a result of losing hand fighting vs the chop move Of the 11 running plays he did a good job identifying who to block, including some good zone plays got out to the second level and wide when needed delivered a violent punch engaged, moved, and turned guys failed to hold his block a couple times So I'd say the glaring thing here is Trapilo needs to work on his hand fighting. It's like his kryptonite. Hopefully Roushar can get that straightened out. On downs where there was no hand chop move, he was strong, consistent, and used his big frame to absorb defenders. In the run game his size is a real asset too, and he has no trouble walling guys off. Keeping in mind that Trapilo was playing against lesser competition too of course. Here are my notes on Trapilo: Ozzy Trapilo Q2 1:40 1&10 Pass Absorbed the rusher, then let him go. it was a screen pass, right over the defender's head, so letting him get upfield a little may well have been his assignment. hard to say. Q2 1:22 2&1 Pass Beaten to the outside, defender gets a pressure and a hand on the QB as he throws Q2 1:16 3&1 Run Engaged his man, held the block Q2 0:58 1&10 Pass absorbed the pressure well Q2 0:48 2&4 Pass Mirrored well and the Monangai has a nice loud smack on the chip to finish it Q2 0:43 3&4 Pass Pushes the defender out of the play on the backside Q2 0:37 1&10 Pass good patience to look for the stunt, and then pick up the defender when it didnt happen. absorbs and neutralizes. Q3 12:52 1&10 Run reaches for his man in zone blocking but he is too far away to cross his face. He pushes his guy on the move well even without the right angle. ANd his guy ends up in the pile that stops the runner. Not a great run block. Q3 12:27 2&9 Pass good mirror good protection Q3 11:53 3&4 Pass makes the right read, and shuts out blitzing defender Q3 11:34 1&10 Run Great zone run blocking. Moves and turns his guy, bounces off and into the second level where he takes two more guys out. Q3 11:01 2&2 Pass Pulls and identifies the right guy and moves him. looks like it might have been a screen. Good movement for a big guy. Q3 10:46 1&10 Run Moves his man a lot and creates the hole for the HB. Q3 10:18 2&6 Run absorbs his defender and turns him away from the play Q3 9:32 1&10 Pass Absorbs and neutralizes defender Q3 8:53 1&10 Run Moves and turns his man, but only holds the block a second, and the HB who was stopped by other defenders is tackled by Trapilo's guy. Had the HB been able to run through the block would have been held long enough, but if i dinged Braxton for it, I gotta ding Ozzy too. Q3 8:32 1&10 Run Trapilo shows good speed getting out on the LB, good punch pushes the defender back a step, then doesnt engage the block. Backside, so it was appropriate and enough for the play. Q3 7:56 2&15 Pass good mirror, good use of hands, neutralizes the defender Q3 7:22 3&1 Run, get on his guy and moves him across the formation and way out of the play. nice. Q3 6:35 4&2 Pass Beaten by hand fighting chop, gives up a big pressure that hurries the QB. Q3 5:04 1&10 Pass play action, Trapilo moves well to reach outside block and rides defender into the sunset Q3 4:35 2&19 Pass good mirror, absorbs the defender like a shock absorber Q3 3:57 3&12 Pass absorbs defender and eats his energy to a stop BENEDET COMES IN HERE AND IS AWFUL, THEN TRAPILO IS BACK Q4 6:22 1&10 Pass on the move, play action run block with good punch but he punched the guy off of him and wasnt able to sustain a block and his defender almost made a play Q4 5:49 1&10 Run moves and turns his guy out of the play and moved him quite a bit Q4 5:11 2&5 Pass play action run block, moved his guy back dominant Q4 4:35 1&10 Run gets on his guy and swallows him up, turning away from the play Q4 3:59 2&12 Pass good outward setup, has trouble with some hand fighting, but still uses good lateral movement and his big frame to ride his guy up and out away from the pocket Q4 3:15 1&10 Pass eats up his opponent and swallows all movement. Sticky, Q4 2:36 2&9 Pass screen with run blocking on the backside. Trapilo gets off fast, but has no one to block on the backside. Not a bad rep, just no one there. Q4 2:00 3&3 Run takes on two defenders with great zone blocking choices. Hits the DE and passes him off to the OG, and then picks up a blitzer and stops him too. Q4 1:54 4&3 Pass beaten with hand fighting chop. Recovered enough to get a hand in the chest of the defender, but it was a pressure that hurried the QB. Q4 0:26 1&15 Pass Absorbs first defender and helps out on a second with his arm. Q4 0:21 2&15 Pass Good protection Neutralized defender Q4 0:16 3&15 Pass beaten with hand fighting chop again, QB is rolling out to the other side anyway, but would have been a pressure if he wasnt. Q4 0:10 4&16 Pass Rides defender out and up away from the play. looks like hand chop issues again too tho. 36 reps 25 Passes 4 pressures all from the outside, 3 from hand chops 1 handchop loss that wasnt a pressure 11 Runs Made smart choices Delivered a violent punch Moved and turned people failed to hold blocks for long on two plays

OK, so I just did Jones. Havent done Trapilo yet, will have to wait for another day. Jones had 24 reps. 15 Passes, and 9 Runs Out of 15 pass reps, he did poorly on 5 of them (and well on 10). on one rep he gave up a sack, beaten cleanly outside, didnt even slow the guy down on two other reps he gave up pressures, including one untouched to the inside where he whiffed in a way that could get your QB killed additionally, he also got bullrushed twice in a row and pushed back into the pocket, and on one of those reps he also false started, but it wasnt called. so, from the outside, a sack, and another pressure, from the inside, a pressure, and up the middle two bull rushes that pushed him back into the pocket, and a false start. Of the 9 running plays he did a good job identifying who to block, including some really good zone plays got out to the second level when needed, and showed good movement delivered a good first punch engaged about half the time, and turned guys when he did failed to hold his block about half the time too, and defenders wiggled out of his block including one play on the goalline where the runner was stopped by a man that Jones had turned outside, and who fought off of Jones and got across his face inside to stop the ball carrier. He had some good reps for sure, but there were enough troublesome moments that I would not be fully comfortable with him at LT. Not saying there is a better option, i have to scout Trapilo next, but if it's Jones who gets the job, he is too often a weak link. If anyone wants to see my notes to see what I mean, they are pasted here. Braxton Jones Q1 14:53 1&10 Pass Jones rides the DE out and handles him well Q1 14:49 2&10 Pass Reads blitz, blitzer chipped, then BJ mirrors opponent, handles him well Q1 14:17 3&16 Pass defender chipped by TE, still Jones fails to engage or mirror defender, who slips around him. Had the QB not thrown quickly it would have been a pressure. Q1 3:34 1&10 Run moves and turns his man well, arm across the back holding, but good play Q1 2:59 2&9 Pass stands his man up for quick pass Q1 2:24 3&4 Pass absorbs defender, neutralizes him Q2 14:05 1&10 Run locates LB and gets to second level, Ok punch but he doesnt stay engaged. Great run by Monangai by the way, great vision, cutback away from where Braxton's guy was going after shedding Jones, protects the ball in traffic and scoots for a 14yd gain Q2 13:32 1&10 Run gets outside, locates a LB and rides him away from the play Q2 12:57 2&7 Pass Good backside zone blocking. pushes his man away and helps the back with a blitzer outside of him. Q2 12:23 1&10 Pass Neutralizes defender at the line Q2 11:46 1&10 Run moves his man well Q2 11:28 1&20 Pass Good mirror, absorbs his guy Q2 10:55 2&15 Pass Good mirror, but let himself get pushed backward and upright toward the QB Q2 10:47 3&15 Pass false start (wasnt called) on BJ, get stood up again and walked back toward the QB the DE is learning Jones can be moved with a bull rush Q2 10:10 1&10 Run, absorbed his guy well Q2 9:36 2&7 Run, good zone choices, helps with the DT and then peel off to seal the backside against the DE Q2 8:55 1&10 Run tough nosed block moves his guy Q2 8:21 2&10 Pass Jones mirrors, is being moved a bit then Monangai chips in an neutralizes with a strong hit Q2 7:45 3&2 Run stands his man up and turns him Q2 7:14 1&Goal Run good punch, moves his man, but cant hold his block, and his guy is able to squirm around him and hit the ball carrier short of the goal line Q2 6:49 1&Goal Pass decent lateral movement, part of misdirection, so block didnt need to be made Q2 6:11 2&Goal Pass Beaten to the outside, his guy gets around him shallow enough to flush and then sack the QB who was moving away out of the pocket. So Jones whiffed, didnt even slow his guy down. Q2 5:31 3&Goal Pass stands his guy up for a moment, all thats needed for that play Q2 4:53 4&Goal Pass Jones is beaten to the inside, his guy comes free to the QB who is pressured and has to get rid of it quickly 24 reps 15 Passes 1 sack 2 bullrush back toward the pocket (one was also a false start) 2 pressures 9 Runs Made smart choices Delivered a consistent punch Moved people failed to hold blocks on several plays

if I do, I do! Of course Im gonna be fair, because i want the best guy out there.

🍿 You're gonna eat what you said about Braxton...💩🥪

I havent watched or paid attention to his snaps (Jones) but Mongo did and he said most of his snaps were good , he had two bad plays. I trust his opinion and once I get a chance to watch his plays, I may have a different opinion. Also Ozzy was similar in his review.

I agree with this. Ozzy is raw though, and especially his first two snaps were ugly. But you could tell he was being challenged a lot the whole game. At one point they started helping Ozzy with chips and rollouts away from his side etc. He was amazing in the running game though, he can really move people. But protecting Caleb has to be job 1. I think he will be able to do it, but he needs more experience. Hopefully that comes fast. Braxton on the other hand was a mess on most of his snaps. Im gonna rewatch it this week, and take some specific notes on each rep.
-
Ozzy showed he belongs on an NFL field and the game wasn’t too big for him. However it shakes out our backup LT will be the best backup LT we’ve had in years.
-
Kinda in between. He's a little better than Braxton in that area. It's funny, Braxton looks top heavy and Ozzy looks bottom heavy.
-
Good observations but we should keep in mind, Braxton was going against starters for the first 3 sets and Ozzy played against 2s and 3s. If neither improve, likely they go with Braxton because of his 3 yrs of starting in the NFL. Did you notice if Ozzy was to upright or was he getting down in his set up?
