Poles Press Conference from last night
Worth watching if you haven’t. Some takeaways: The Bears, right or wrong, are much more comfortable with D line than we are. I’m not even sure they went into the draft with it as a priority, though I expect they’ll see the need to add there today to shut people up if nothing else. They also pretty clearly were not really enamored with this DL class, which is probably why they signed so many DTs in FA (as I had been theorizing). Don’t expect there to be a big competition at C unless Jones really blows them away. The plan is clearly to start Bradberry. They see Shemar as DE, not DT. He was mentioned in the group of edges with Montez, Dayo, and Booker. I don’t necessarily agree but that how they see it. The offensive guys are Ben guys. He wants them and has a plan. And while I have my reservations, it’s notable that every single offensive draft pick they made last year played well when called on. They are going to use Thomas very similar to how they used Velus Jones at first and he might see more carries than catches his first year. Poles noted how the system is particularly tough for WRs to pick up. You can also watch the post draft media conferences with the players on YouTube or the Bears app which give some insight into the players. We’ve talked about 30 visits and it sounds to me based on what I heard that Logan Jones did have a 30 visit with them but Thomas and Roush did not.

Plus you traded a 5th round pick for Bradberry only to draft a 25 year old you hope replaces him sooner than later in the 2nd, and move a 6th back to a 7th for that DE that hardly played.

Day 3 prospects
Yep. Almost no point in making mocks or predictions because their board might not remotely resemble anyone else’s.

Best Available Day 2
all in all we traded a starting GOOD+ wide receiver for a third string tight end who can maybe *block. *wow, that is really a rare commodity that you should draft in the 2nd or 3rd round to get you over the hump in a superbowl run year. cap relief? good teams can manage it. why can't we? so, here is the NFL website evaluation day 2: Analysis:The Bears sent DJ Moore and a fifth-rounder to the Bills for a second-round pick earlier this offseason, but they were able to recoup a fifth-rounder by trading down on Friday night. Jones was my favorite center in the draft. He’s an athletic zone blocker who can anchor despite lacking ideal size. Roush met the Bears' need for a tight end who can block and be effective as a receiver, if he cuts down on drops. They took Thomas later in Round 3. He’s an after-the-catch threat like Luther Burden III, but Thomas isn’t the most natural pass catcher.

The Bears lost way too much draft capital in this draft. From my count, they lost a round with Jones, lost a half a round with the trade back, another round selecting Roush, and then at least 2 more rounds with Thomas. That is 4.5 rounds in lost draft capital. That is not nothing. In 2 years, if Jones is the only starter out of Jones, Roush, and Thomas, it will be a bad draft.
-
Day 3 prospects
It almost doesn't matter because the Bears are picking their guys not the consensus guys.
-
Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
One look at the highlight film on the team website, and one thing is for sure: he will be our Gadget guy. Yes, he will stretch the field. But I also watched him line up in the backfield and take the handoff as a RB. I saw him receive 2 passes and throw them downfield to another wide receiver. Double reverse, sure, why not? Ben's guy

we didn't win because of poles. we won because we drafted a no brainer QB who the world told poles to draft. we won because we hired a competent coach for the first time maybe in its entire history to run this idiotic franchise because other people SAID he was the best out there. we had ONE offensive linemen he bothered to draft in wright and nobody else. NO defensive linemen he bothered to draft and filled ONE side of the ball with competent FREE AGENTS to appease the NEW coach we hired. nearly every defensive sided free agent was a joke that ate up our cap number. his 5 year plan may have taken a competent GM 3 years to fulfill?

just how many TE's do we need??? how many WR's do we need??? how many of these fabulous 2nd day picks can we place on the field along with the starters we now have?? how many targets can our QB have on the field to pass the freaking ball to?? offense gets you to superbowls. good or better than good defenses to go along with it WINS superbowls. if you keep drafting the same position guys in the money rounds you are neglecting team needs for a lopsided joke of a team. if the difference maker players you do need aren't there when you are slotted to pick, you move UP to draft them. we had 2 second round picks and a 3rd round pick. in a freaking WEAK draft you use these to move UP not down for lesser quality players you especially do NOT need. even backup CB's or LB's would have been better picks than third and fourth string TE's and WR's.

Dont disagree with anything you say but throw in , last years draft looked bad. After the season finished we had won the division, a playoff game and a 12 win season. Condemn Poles for lots of things, but he is right on schedule for why he got hired. He said it would take 5 years of which is this year and be consistent winners. So far so good.

Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
Just read Zavion is a distance relative of Walter Payton. COOL

This is a list of the top players left on day 3. There are 30 of the top 50 that would still look good in a Bears uniform. Great Blue North Draft ReportUpdated 2026 Big Board - Great Blue North Draft Report

Went back and looked at last years comments and very similar to this year. Questioned picks, needs and where we drafted them. I did see where everyone like the Shemar Turner pick. He will be like getting another pick this year at a position of need. He will contribute this year. Hyppolite was question but stated as a developmental player. We get to see what he does this year. Same with Frazier, he could be this years DuShon Wright and surprise everyone. He has the traits. We need to look at the roster entering training camp not on day 3 of the draft.
-
Bears trade 60 for 69 (3rd) and 144 (5th)
As you stated Turner played DE because of injuries but was drafted as a DT. I think they could play him at either spots according to the other players they bring in. We dont know the progress of the injured players on our roster. I think the fact they havent addressed the DL that all the injury concerns are going well in rehab. This is where after the draft we could bring a Cam Jordan if we dont get a DE.

Best Available Day 2
Thieneman ) we needed a starting S and got the second best one in the draft. Jones) we got side smacked when Dalman retired. So they went out and got the best option that fit their cap. Now they take a potential pro bowl type of center. They doubled down on a position DA values very highly. He only had one pressure last year and no sacks in the dominate Big 10 Roush) the third TE was a need, not at the top of the acquisition list but fills a spot BJ values. He is a killer blocker and that specialty play BJ likes. Instead of a OT receiver, they have a pass catcher. He has a 9.99 RAS score, 6'7" 270 lbs. that is another OT to help the LT spot where they didnt draft anyone. Thomas) everyone projected a WR some where in the draft and here he is. What this is a returner with 4.28 speed. This adds a weapon for BJ and an upscale returner. He had 3 returns for TDs last year. There are still names out there than can help us on the DL, more so at DT than edge. If we draft Dennis-Sutton, I would been happy at 57 and they picked him later. Depends on how the board drops. Halton, Proctor, Benny are DTs still out there that fit our scheme. Im going to go back and look at our reactions last year and I suspect its the same as this year, WTF. It was our best draft in many yrs. .
-
Pick 89, Zavion Thomas, WR, LSU
I mocked him in the 4th several times. We needed a blow the lid off guy and went and got him.
-
Bears draft Sam Roush, TE at 69
How did all of us perceive lasts year draft last year? You and I are like minded, we need to trust what they are doing and why they picked who they picked when they picked them. If they end up with Dennis-Sutton or Gracen Halton at a later round, good for them. I like Kaleb Proctor and would have been happy if drafted in the second round and he is still there. This still has room to fill needs we all agree on.

Totally agree. The scouting dept brings the players and then Ben and Ryan sort out their needs and create a board. They are sticking to their board, not fan and pundit perception of values of players. I was disappointed last year after the draft and boom, best draft in a very long time and its not done paying dividends. Clearly BJ states what he wants, this draft as well as last year, push for a dominating offense. They attribute a bad defense last year to injuries and not all players fit DAs scheme. I think they may have drafted Jacas but he went two picks before 57 and then would have drafted Jones with 60. It didnt work out. Drafted Jones and moved back for the next guy on their board. This is not over and we have to see how it turns out. Then UDFAs and a second wave of free agents. If they dont get who they wanted, then you may see Cam Jordan, DJ Reader, several options still available. That is the point you see these type of players signed after they didnt fill their needs in the draft.

I been making jokes here or on social media that they need to lock BJ in a closet. I have also mentioned they need to build around the QB and today they showed that. The good thing is I have 2-3 DTs i wanted and about 2 DEs that I would have taken in earlier rounds in mocks. If the Bears get those players, genius. If not, then maybe having two heads at the top is to many. With those players still available, I or none of us know true value.
-
Bears draft Sam Roush, TE at 69
At least all 32 teams have felt that way about those left over players. TE was heavily drafted this year as teams seen how great 12 personnel works.
-
Best Available Day 2
Maybe, he has a steady improvement scale going year to year. I think the Bears feel they can develop and feature him unlike what Stanford did.
-
Bears draft Sam Roush, TE at 69
Yeah, we are playing the board as it falls. If we end up with Dennis-Sutton, or Joshua Josephs (or even Reiger, Ndame Tucker etc) then they just played the board beautifully. if on the other hand we are being too cute and all those names go and we are stuck with nothing, and there is no trade or free agent move in his back pocket, then this will be a really different outcome. So I feel like I shouldnt judge him until he is done. Im having faith that that Edge is coming. I also wanted Dennis-Sutton or Josephs in the 2nd round, so maybe Poles is one cool cat. Or maybe he's a psycho that doesnt care about the pass rush? Time will tell.

That title isn’t meant to be snarky. While we’re all thinking, or at least I was thinking, we need to build a balanced roster. You know as in Caleb is good enough to overcome some deficiencies among the offense. Nope. Today made it clear Ben is determined to build an unstoppable offense with a full suite of weapons around Caleb. So it’s not going to be good offense and good defense. It’ll be great offense and good-enough defense. That’s the way the Colts ran all those years with Peyton Manning. KC did the same with Andy Reed for a few years and then just added in Mahomes. Never having seen a great offense in Chicago I don’t know how to feel about the effort to do this. I do like the three offensive players we drafted although the WR seemed like we could have drafted in the 4th. Being a Bears fan my focus has always been defense.

I think by midseason, he will be ahead of Kmet. Thats my guess. Maybe sooner.
