Never heard that and never heard of Street even getting snaps with the ones.

I haven’t been that enamored with Hightower. I don’t think he’s bad but he’s not one of the best.

I found it interesting that we have 7 rookies draft picks and 7 UDFAs hanging around. 53-PS-IR. Usually when you start winning you have less turnover. https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/CHI

Maybe they need a top ST coach, but even having one, Dave Toub, the Bears brought in specialists like Branden Ayanbadjeo, Blake Constanzo, McManis. Even Hester was basically ST only. I know what you mean that having players be good position players goes further than buying ST only guys.

I listen to Hoge and Jahans that had Stacy Dales on there and she said someting interesting. With Dexter gone, she said she thought K Street would be starting next to Jarrett now that he had the best camp of the DTs. Anyone else heard that ? I realize JVB and Loving has gotten all the press.

At some point I expect these “great” coaches to coach up some of this young talent to replace his performance for less money. if you’re going to pay for a special teams ace IMO they should be an elite coverage player who can consistently shut down returns and/or returner. Or that player should be better capable as a backup at a primary position. The bigger concern is we’re carrying two of these special teams aces in Blackwell and Hardy. Neither plays well at their primary position. That lack of depth at both positions impacted the defense last year.

Given Hardy is one of their best ST'ers, I can't imagine they plan on moving him to the practice squad.

Hardy can go on the practice squad.

Bringing in Christian Jones/OT instead of bringing back Wills or Kiran( got picked up) speaks volumes to what they thought of those two. With Lynch coming back that gives us 6 DTs. Now Lynch and Street can move outside but we have 5 DEs on the roster. I would suspect someone is going to the PS , Loving?

Yeah, I forgot players from external teams can't be announced until today. So they will be on there, plus a few more.

That’s a decent group. Several WR options that could contribute in a pinch I definitely expected Alexander would be in that group. I wonder if the deal with Davenport was always about the practice squad. He’s known Dennis Allen for a long time. If both parties accept he won’t play a full season then he’s hanging around for the final push into the playoffs. The RB from Minn is a clear backup for Roschon. Ahmed backs up Swift/monangai

Looking at best available free agents still out there, there are some interesting names that might be calling. Poles FA splash a few years ago Larry Ogunjobi, Leonard Floyd, Adoree Jackson. We really don't have the cap available, but if there's a guy, they can get creative.

I believe the practice squad is 16 players. 17 if you have an international player. 6 of the 16 can be veterans. 2 players can be elevated each week without having to clear waivers up to 3 games, they have to remain on active roster or be waived. The practice squad rules changed in 2020.

Looks like with Christian Jones and Zavier Scott signing from external teams, there is at least one odd man out on the original 11-resignings. Could also be someone else going on IR and opening up a roster spot.

I didnt realize Bagent's contract runs thru 2027. We can wait a year and still be able to trade him. No need to trade now.

I read that Caden Barnett returns to our PS along with OT Christian Jones (I think from Arizona). Also, Amegadjie signs with Philly PS

I don’t care how he arrives at the destination as long as he gets there. I see the many missed draft picks of other teams so I don’t think we’re alone here. If he doesn’t get the superbowl win then the picks ultimately become his accountability. I had a thought last night the Steelers returned our second round pick for Tyson Bagent before next years draft.

Its easy to look back and criticize transactions. What I do know is, he made the two best moves this team has ever had. BJ and Caleb. Also, the net result of all of these mistakes was a 12 win season. I suspect we do that again. He is a C+ to me, not great but not terrible. Its okay to have your own opinion, for me, its about results . Call him lucky with Caleb ad BJ, but he is the one that did that and he will not be remembered for failed 3rd round picks. When he took the job, he said it would take 5 yrs to be a winner and compete for SBs. So far so good. He took his job on Jan 25 2022,

The Bears are one of a few teams that have hit on the waiver wire. Last year it was D'Marco Jackson. It's one thing to hit on a UDFA, but a waiver wire one is rarer. Now if Poles could just draft better and stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room. The draft day video of Poles smoking and joking about how the broadcast doesn't have video on Hyppolite is damning. He really thought he was outsmarting the league and now he looks like the idiot. It is one thing to take a guy later than his projected ADP, that shows value, and in some cases patience. Reaching for guys has rarely, if ever, worked out. Burden was drafted later, looks like that will work out. Same for Monangai, same for van den Berg. Those are value picks with the traits you like. Reaching for those guys rarely works. Velus Jones, Amegadjie, Hyppolite, Taylor, just to name a few. Pickens felt like a reach too, but maybe not as much. I really hope he changes his draft approach with Ben Johnson now influencing those picks.
