Week 1 Official Game Thread - CHI @ CAR, SUN 9/13, 12PM CDT, CHI -2.5 O/U 47, FOX
Anyone see the locker room speech given by Ben Johnson? He finished with game balls and said that's it, the team started asking him to do the Good, Better, Best. He played them like it was last year's thing, but those players wanted it. He has them all bought in. He understands how their minds work, how the game works, and is a wizard that we are lucky to have. This team will only go as far as him because he got Caleb turned into a beast, an offense with weapons galore. If he can get the defense up to just par, they can be one of NFLs best dynasties. His staff will get picked apart faster than Declan Doyle has turned Baltimore into an offensive powerhouse.

I like all the positivity from the pundits and lots of new ones around like these guys. It will be proven out that Carolina has an average defense, not terrible which gives us more creed. Minny will be tougher but still expect a score in the 30s because BJ will take advantage of open spots from blitzes. Last year, Caleb didnt take much under routes and drop offs. This year that and running will kill the Viking DL. Those fat guys are going to get tired chasing Caleb.

We still have a lot of new players on offense. It’s a long season there will be time to work that stuff in. For now they need to focus on executing the game plan. I don’t want to see Caleb check to a play only to have everyone start asking what is the check.

What’s getting in their head is a habit of losing games when they have a lead in the 4th quarter.

Caleb missed one free play opportunity last game, he needs to take advantage of those. It takes a quick mind to catch and do, so Ben needs to run those every practice.

I also heard Packer fans are talking about fire Matt Lefleur. I think Ben Johnson got in his head with that after the game handshake.

I sometimes revel in other people’s misery. On Packers wire is an article about how horrendous their Oline is and how bad their game plan was against Minnesota. It’s also easy to find articles and videos talking about firing the Panthers DC. I’m ready for week 2

I agree. The only positive that comes out of that is that for the rest of the year whenever we line up on 4th and short the defense knows it’s likely for real. We now have a QB with a good hard count so we should get some free first downs as the season plays out.

Agree. And while Braxton Jones did get walked back into the QB a few times from a bull rush, he was more effective in the run game than I had seen from him before. So, good for both of them Id say.

Bears vs Philly game - Monday night
The only time I have been to NYC was on my senior class trip in 1970. Our bus pulled up to the hotel and , when getting off, a cop chased a hooker down and arrested her right in front of the bus. I travel a lot now and NYC was a fascinating place, I need to go back. Went to a preseason game this year, other wise its been before COVID hit. At 73 its much easier to watch on TV, but nothing like crowd energy when we are playing well. I had season tickets for two years and was reminded that I was at the Chi-GB game in 1980 when we beat GB 61-7. Lots of energy at that one.

All good to know. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in the city so it’ll be great to see if it all comes back. And no driving allowed says the wife. She insists that’s why they created uber.

If you're driving to any of them, you can drive by Soldier Field too. They're all pretty near each other.

well i dunno if ANYTHING is cooler than the Museum of Science and Industry! The working coal mine you go down into - it's pretty freakin' cool. The dinosaurs are at the Field Museum of Natural History. LOTS of great Museums in Chicago. I gotta say I lived right in the middle of NYC for 35 years (I used to be BearFanNYC) and I went to the museums there too. Everyone says NYC Museums are the best, but I didnt think so at all. NYC likes to brag about itself. I'm from the Chicago burbs, so still say please and thank you and it just confuses the NYers. Anyway rambling to say, Chicago has some pretty damned good museums. Much better than NYC in my opinion.

Yes, he has gotten results from coachable players. Until I see better talent up front, I can't fault DA either. Not like he can make Jarrett younger or Dayo more t be a feared unit. I hope they can draft a few d game changers next draft.

I seem to recall the Museum of Science and Industry - had dinosaurs and sliced human anatomy displayed along the staircase? But what you're describing is even cooler sounding. Gotta add that to the list. Thank you.

At the risk of debating, the two rookie DBs (Muhammad and Thieneman) came out ready to play - I think a result of good coaching. Johnson and Stevenson's performances (or lack thereof) aren't really manifestations of bad coaching - that's just them. They both got burnt a bunch yesterday and in games past.

That goal line sneak that Caleb attempted was hilarious. He jumped straight up then right back down...no yardage, feet or inches gained. 😂

After thoughts Its easy to love this kind of stuff, but the only thing that bothered me was the play he ran when he went for it on the 21 that we turned the ball over to Carolina. Ben is going to take risks, 21 yard line is 20 yards to close for me to take that risk. I think 40 yards going forward is where the risks start but Ben isnt changing his bad with all the good. Caleb isnt very good with QB sneaks, I would have handed off to Swift or Kyle. Loveland only getting two targets is insane but just shows how many weapons we have. Caleb had some pressure (two sacks) but generally had a pocket the whole day. The OL were a beast on the ground. We are a running team with a QB that can make every throw and has legs. That is going to be hard to beat. Street and Sweat got the sacks and had decent games. Dillion and Muhammad make a few mistakes but played well for rookies. Wasnt impressed by any LBers. Jarrett only had a QB hit but was in a pressure situation many times.

I saw the same. What I liked was that he fought and eventually anchored. That's something I don't think we've seen before. He drew praise from Thayer, Jurko and Waddle today. I'm just glad he didn't stink it up.

it took Ben quite a feww weeks before he put Burden out there last year, so I figure Zavion will have to earn trust in practice, and learn the playbook etc, and become a contributor later in the season. Im intrigued like you are Bears4Ever_34, but Im guessing we will have to wait a few weeks?
