wow, that guy is great. and he doesnt treat us like we dont know what quarters is, he doesnt draw it out, he quickly just makes the point - so quickly that you can remember it and comapre it to other similar situations. Thats a really cool way to look at all of this.

Looking at the above video and reflecting back on the entire season: from the start Ben said he was putting it all on Caleb’s plate and it showed up in that playoff game. It’s amazing how much information Caleb has had to process. It’s also easy to see why he struggled so much early on in the season. Also why at times he just went into Caleb mode.

I’ve been watching film studies for a few years now. This is the best one. He focuses on the chess match and play calling back and forth between Ben Johnson and Jeff Hafley. You’ll see how Caleb is picking things up between series too which means he’s getting coached and listening. I’ve seen Caleb’s miraculous throw to Rome dozens of times now. Now I know if he just read it right that throw never happens. With the WC Win, the Bears are locked into one of the picks 25-32 in the 2026 Draft, that will be the latest they have drafted in the 1st round since 2011 (Gabe Carimi - 29th pick) which obviously corresponds with the Conf Championship loss in 2010 to GB (Caleb Hanie game).

This is one of the best injury reports I can remember. If McCloud is the only one that can't go, that is actually a benefit to the Bears because he is absolutely torched on every play he is on the field. The worst 3 coverage players: McCloud, Sewell, Edwards would all be out.

I honestly don't think they will make any sweeping changes this offseason. The longer you can ride out contracts, the less chance at dead money near the end. Caleb is in Year 3 in 2026, 4 in 2027, and they will either go the 5th Year Option route or extend him after Year 4 which makes Year 5 payout more than it would've but lessens the cap hit for the remainder of the deal. Assuming they extend him early, 2027 seems to be the year that you would start cutting dudes to accelerate the dead money into 2027 protecting 2028 for Caleb's pay raise.

If it was 4th down, the game is over anyway. It is sort of a loop hole to save a down if you were going to spike the ball anyway. Just say there are 30 secs left, and it's 2nd down, you gain 7 yards. You can quickly go up and spike it, stop the clock, and give yourself another shot. Around 20 secs left, balled spiked on 3rd down, now 4th and 3 but the clock is stopped. OR player gets hurt on the 2nd down play, 10-second runoff, now only 3rd and 3 with 20 secs left. Utlimately this could be applied to any down or distance when you have a chance to spike the ball. If you watch that play sequence over, GB basically got a free timeout for 10 seconds without wasting a down for a spike, which they were going to do without the injury.

In the Wild Card game, there was a play when the Packers no longer had timeouts and there was an injured player. It was after a long pass where the player was tackled in the field of play. Since the Packers did not have any timeouts there was a 10-second runoff. However, that actually benefitted them because they would've taken the same amount of time to get down the field, get set, then spike the ball. So they basically gained a down by that entire sequence. To me, it should be a 10-second run off AND loss of down because if there was no injury, they would've lost the time and the down. This would only apply to a play where the clock was not stopped the play prior. What do you think?

I agree, Swift seems to excel in those situations. I am surprised that they don't run those more often.

Everything is off the table going into 2027 but for next year, if they keep this offense intact, we could be a scoring machine. Next year is Caleb's breakout year 4500 yards, 40 TD passes, 67% . Why would they mess with that? With a bad defense, we literally could go to the SB with our offense

statman: what is the average increase in salary cap per year and the average high end salary for core players by position? every year we see cap strapped teams resigning their key players when we think there is no way possible for them to get under the cap. if they can, why can't we? screw the salary cap. that said... look at mahomes when the quality of his WR's declined to a great degree because they dumped his go to players. the chiefs WR's dropped more balls than anyone i can think of during these seasons. he relied mostly on kelse his TE. if we can't slot two or three key defensive players into our current cap for the future while caleb is in his rookie contract keeping our receiving core we are not trying hard enough. i say we keep our core of receivers and tight ends and think of how our offense would operate if we didn't and a key WR/TE is injured or has a career ending injury. we won't have the higher draft picks to replace them. also, we are not paying a RB top dollar compared to the best in the league. that has to count for something. add to this, we have a starting quality backup QB. if we couldn't get a first round pick out of him in the future i would be amazed.

I think he is a consistent playmaker that they value in this offense. They will restructure DJ and Kmet plus a couple OL to get money to help the defense.

After DJ’s total commitment to “F the packers,” and TWO different game winning catches against the packers, I can’t see how they let him go. Those catches are historical. We will be talking about the wildcard game and catch for 20 years.

I’ve wanted the Bears to do a toss sweep all year with Swift. Let him go wide with some pulling blockers, then stick his foot in the ground and cut back at the best moment. Feels like a guaranteed 5-6 yds, and potentially a huge play.
