I posted a TTNL video with "Cars" (who is damned smart about the cap) and he showed where with simple restructruing we could create $64M in cap room, and obviously, your source says even more. So we know it's possible. I think the entire defense is getting overhauled. And I wont be shocked to see Trey Hendrickson in blue and orange next year.

Just came across this. (Work has been busy lately so if this was posted before forgive me). Bears can clear up to $72mil in cap space with simple restructures of contracts. Maximum restructuring could generate up to $147mil although I'd imagine that brings plenty of pain in future years. Poles has quite a bit of flexibility to improve this roster, more than I expected. https://overthecap.com/restructure "A simple restructure converts payments into prorated signing bonuses within the confines of the remainder of the contract. Teams typically have the ability to unilaterally execute simple restructures without any action necessary from the player." "A maximum restructure increases the amount of cap space via conversion into prorated signing bonuses by either extending the contract or by adding void years to a contract, years that do not extend the contract but are only used as placeholders for the proration. Maximum restructures are typically considered a renegotiation of the contract that requires the player's consent to execute."

They will also likely with Wright to a big money extension.

The 2026 salary cap is said to be around 301 to 305 million. The Bears are sitting around 304. They can make a few salary adjustments and move 1 or 2 players to add enough to sign a notable player, their draft picks, and in season operating needs. It will be a tight year but don't think they will sit on their hands.
-
ty for that - I havent even looked at all at the draft class yet. Its good that it's rich in DTs. right when we need em.
-
Poles is going to want more draft picks but will be according to his big board. If that player is there, whatever position, he's taking him. Look at the surprise first two picks last year. He also could move up a few spots to get someone but not jumping to top 10 that would cost to much. Lots of depth in DTs this year so that's sounds like picking a target in the second. S is a position he may fill in free agency with a later pick in the draft. So that leaves LT or DE as the logical 25 pick. Most teams don't let good LTs leave so odds of us getting one there is slim. Anyone notice that Braxton is the third rated free agent at LT? DEs always get overpaid at edge. (Dayo) I trust the BJ/ Poles team to get what we need.
-
This makes sense, everyone is speculating but until the contract is viewed by the NFL, it still may leave an opening for the comp picks.
-
The good thing is DT is pretty strong this year. Maybe not any top tier players but rds 1-3 have quality. A few of these guys seem to be older. Id be fine staying put or trading down. Maybe work a deal with a QB needy team looking to move back into RD1. Jets pick 33 and 2027 Rd 3 for pick 25. 2027 is supposedly going to be a strong class according to pundits. It doesn't help now, but next year we would be happy. If the NFL awards compensation for Cunningham even better.

Declan Doyle withdraws name for Eagles OC positions, stays with Bears
Stinger226 replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
This podcast throws out all the past connections with BJ and they brought up the Boston college OC is already here, Will Lawing. Maybe BJ was playing 4th level Chess and knew everything that was going to happen. The ones I don't want gone is the OL coach and Randle El- Al Harris. I don't think any others aren't replaceable. -
Last year Poles signed Dayo for an expensive price and he got hurt. I doubt he wants to pay good money for people with injury history. Crosby just had his 8th knee surgery this past year. Hendrickson has missed time over injuries the last two years. The draft is the key going forward that upgrades both our lines. Now if they find some veterans that may want to play here for a winner and give us team favorably contracts that remains to be seen. The other way to add is trade but I don't see us giving up high drafts if we trade for someone and trading expensive players isn't as easy as people make it out to be. Teams have to have Cap space, the need, and usually rebuilding teams want draft picks in return. So more likely a contender with a specific need but will try to got that thru the draft first. After the draft will be when they look for those additions.

I read a story where there is a coach with Detroit last year that BJ tried to get and Detroit blocked it. The story said he is available this year. I don't remember the name of the coach. As we have openings it does give BJ the chance to bring in other coaches he is aligned with. Anytime you have success you have change. BJ already addressed that when he said there is no carry over that we are rebuilding again.

Spot on.

He ascended quickly. This is not a problem. I read where BJ wants to bring in a coach from Detroit he worked with and now has an opening for him. As much as the league is already raiding the BJ chain, other coaches will want to come here. -
Damn, Doyle is gone, going to call plays in Baltimore:
-
I agree with all of this, and in the "dead zone" at #25 a trade back does make a lot of sense. But if you think Warren Sapp is there at 15, you might trade up if you really believed. Thats all Im saying, that its possible.
-
Wait I thought Ryan Pace was the Falcons GM? 😏
-
I'm right there too. From what we've read, DA likes to create pressure inside. At this point, we have zero pressure up the middle. Dexter didn't progress and Jarrett didn't add much either. It's a shame Turner got hurt, because he was probably the guy. So, 1T, 3T or EDGE; I don't care. It's time to throw draft capital in that direction.
-
Nah there is enough depth at DT and our need is high enough that we can wait. We might even be able to trade back a few spots and still get one who can help. When I say the need is high enough I mean we don’t have to be specific on the need. Either a 3tech or 1 tech makes us much better. FA will likely change that a bit or I could be completely wrong and they will want to focus on pass rush first.

Greg Gabriel was reporting that it all comes down to the contract - so once Cunningham has signed his deal (which probably happened late last night) it will go to the league offices who will basically see who has control of 53. But beyond that - I just want to keep the point clear - huge congrats to Cunningham and its nice to see other team(s) wanting our people. I'm curious to see who Bears replace him with...presume Jeff King wlil get promoted but I'm also hoping we see the Bears bring someone from otuside to ensure they are building a deep front office with depth, experience, and relationships across the league.
-
Screw up the QB position get fired. At least now he has more time to watch Sam Darnold in the superbowl.
-
Agreed. End the Rooney rule completely. It has done nothing to promote minorities. It only strokes unneeded racial commentary.
-
On the Cunningham stuff, rewarding you for losing a minority employee only when they get promoted and fulfill a specific new position for another team is ridiculous. Teams should not gain a competitive advantage on the field for an administrative move off of it, especially when it is solely related to race. Like how do they even determine that? 23 and me? They just need to remove the comp picks altogether for anything other than player losses in free agency, because that is tied to a tangible thing like the salary cap.
-
Wow, MIN GM fired:
-
I hate this so much. The league will never convince me that this is lateral. Not in title, not in responsibility.

Last years draft had two starting Ts drafted from 25 on. Josh Connelly and Josh Simmons. Josh got hurt but played well until then. 2 DL were taken, James Pierce and Tyleik Williams. James had 11 sacks and Williams played 40% of the snaps but wasn't special. So there is players in that range. The second round were littered with lots of good players on both lines, so we can definitely get some value with our first two picks. Dayo and Jarrett were big disappointments but hard to judge when not playing. Jarrett played better later in the year but he's never going to be a star anymore. They both have outs in 27 with contracts but are here for sure one more year. We only have 2 DTs on the roster but 5 DEs for next year.
