Bagent for a 3rd? I think the Bears pull the trigger. It would more than likely be a bad team in need of a QB, so a high 3rd, top 75 pick. Bagent is a solid QB, but I don't think he is "beating" anyone. He would be fine to hold the fort down for a few games, but it's not like he is Foles coming off the bench to replace Wentz. For the Bears, I would rather have another player, potentially a starting Safety on a new 4-year rookie deal in 2026 or 2027 than Bagent as the backup. The Bears are going to need as many key contributors/starters on rookie deals for when Caleb gets his new deal. So the trade-off for me is always going to be leaning towards a player on a rookie deal > vet that can be traded unless the drop off is too big (trading Sweat to draft a punter).

Bagent has very little on him, were the others have more tape and been around longer. One thing we havent seen is Bagent behind the rebuilt oline and a competent offense. I am sure the Bears know his value and doubt a 3rd would do it since they do not have anyone at backup.
-
They rarely tip their hand, but he did mention making hard decisions. To me that is moving on from guys under contract, not about UFAs. So that was a signal that Edmunds and Moore are gone, one way or another.
-
I think it is wild seeing Malik Willis as the #1 Free Agent on many lists. His agent is a masterclass. The guy has one start with over 210 yards passing. How is he any different than a guy like Tyler Huntley? Hell, I would take Mitch over Willis any day. Which leads me to this, why would teams be interested in Bagent but not someone like Trubisky? That confuses me. It is not like Trubisky would cost an arm and a leg to get.

Here is some stupid rumors I've seen and throw them into a scenario for our off season. Bears trade DJ Moore for Devonte Sweat/ NT/ Tenn . Sweat is 25 , great against the run but not much of a pass rusher. 2.6 mil a year but we save 16.5 mil. Contract runs thru 27. We trade D Swift and Bagent for Josh Sweat at AZ. Sweat had 12 sacks last year and 49 hurries with 3 FFs. His Cap this year 16.5 mil and has 4 years left in his contract with the last one being a voided yr. Swift and Bagent move 13.3 mil in salary. We resign Byard, Demarco Jackson, Zaccheaus , Keenum and E Hicks plus Gardner-Johnson to play SS on a 1 yr deal. In this scenario we get the comp pick around pick 100. In the draft we trade pick 25 for for Seattle pick 32 and pick 96. 32- Lee Hunter/ DT 57- Gabe Jacas/Edge 89- Isaiah World/ OT 96- Nicholas Singleton/ RB 100-Jalon Kilgore/ S 129-Kyle Louis/ LB 163-Marlin Klein/ TE 240- Andre Fuller/ CB 242- Miller Moss/ QB

Right, getting him a year early should cost something like a 2nd. Maybe more. Starting QBs don't grow on trees, and if you're paying a 2nd, you think he's a starter. If teams feel he isn't worth it, then they can wait until next year. If they believe in him, then they should pay.
-
I think the problem is I can’t see someone offering a 2nd..if they did he is gone. A 3rd is probably what it would take but Bears may prefer to wait a year in that case. If it happens I think a 3rd with a conditional pick in the following year - if he hits it big maybe it escalates to a 2nd and if it doesn’t hit goes as low as an additional 5th or 6th.
-
Let them bid, and with 2 years to go on his deal, that's not gonna be cheap.

https://www.profootballrumors.com/2026/02/bears-qb-tyson-bagent-drawing-interest#ref=home this appears to be more than one team with interest. Makes sense given the weak QB draft.

I watched Poles’ and Ben Johnson’s press conferences at the combine. Very clear he’s getting phone calls about players. Very clear that DJ is absolutely available. Might be Kmet too as he said he’s going to do what he feels gets the best roster overall. Stay tuned.
-
I thought the same, haha. I'd hate to see a player with a year of knowledge in BJs system go without anyone capable behind Caleb. They could resign Case Keenum. They need to groom someone this year as a #3, then shop Bagent.
-
Now that is how you drive up the trade value. Could you find a better promo for a backup QB than Ben Johnson saying that.
-
Ryan Poles confirmed the Bears have received calls on Bagent today. Ben Johnson also asked today about trade possibilities of Tyson Bagent. "He said noooo, not Tyson. I like Tyson."
-
Poles has prices set on his team. When Jaylon wanted his extension he also demanded a trade. Poles said it would take 2 firsts if JJ can find a team willing to pay. I dont think DJ Moore will cost a ton, I figure what a #2 WR or 1B would cost. Pickens cost a 3rd and 5th the following year. Keenan Allen was our 4th that current year.

From past history, Poles lets no information escape Halas Hall. I think when asked about DJ staying, his tone seemed to change that tells me if someone makes a good offer he would take that. I think it all comes down to value.
-
I think so.
-
If we don't get the picks, it will effectively end the Rooney Rule.
-
Cunningham even said today that his understanding is that the Bears deserve the picks.
-
Smoke season just started too, but there are quite a few edges.
-
Something else from that presser, Poles said that EDGE is deeper than DT in this draft, while we've been hearing opposite from experts. Kinda sounds like price negotiations...
-
Poles was asked today about the 2- 3rds that the Bears were supposed to get for losing Ian Cunningham. He has been in talks with the NFL about it. If the Bears do not get them, I feel they need to put that rule to rest if the league is going to bend qualifications. They must fear the Bears will be a dynasty and that is not written in their script.
-
Absolutely. Combine + Pro days will shift this. I do remember Darnell Wright on the radar pretty early.
-
Since DA will be here for a long time, I think they only draft scheme fit players in the draft. My first 4 picks I want 2 DTs, a DE and OT. Let them figure out who best fits and give value at that spot. I think they bring in Ss and LBers in free agency. I also think he acquires more picks for other positions.

Bears To Indiana? If They Go, Eat $h!t and CHOKE On it
Stinger226 replied to Lucky Luciano's topic in Bearstalk
Can someone direct me to the actual offer Indiana is proposing for the bears. I'm not jumping to conclusions on what that is until I see it. What the bears are asking Illinois is to improve the infrastructure around the stadium and give them a break on the insane tax bill proposed. Arlington racetrack was paying 20 million a year in taxes. The bears tore the structure down and they were told that had to pay 200 mil a year on raw land. They asked for it to stay the same until the structure was complete and then for a fair assessment. With the added revenue that will be brought in, it more than justfly the bonds that would be put out to pay for the infrastructure. The reduction in the tax bill is future income for the state and not taken money from their coffers. The Arlington project would already be underway if the government didn't try to make a cash cow on raw land while under construction. The bears then decided to leverage a better deal by looking at Indiana. Pro Football is a business and the bears are acting like a business. I'm going to still be a bear's fan where ever it ends up. -

I wont argue the offsetting sales and entertainment taxes collected, it sounds like you have a political point of view on it, so I'll just respect you and not argue that. I'm no tax expert, that's for sure. One thing I DO know is that out of all of professional sports, the team that pays the most property taxes for their stadium each year is the LA Rams, and they pay $9 Million annually. Under current Illinois law, the Bears would be expected to pay $100 to $200 Million in property taxes each year from the stadium they plan to build in Arlington Heights. That's insane, and obviously not reasonable. If the Bears have to move to avoid that, I think people can understand it. However, I don't believe that is the final word at all. I think Illinois will lower that to something more reasonable in line with all the other sports stadiums around the country. I still expect the Bears to end up in Arlington Heights, but they won't be paying $100 Million or even $20 Million a year in property taxes.
