  2. Im just posting this again. Instead of reading articles (although that one above is excellent!) I just watch 5 min of this at a time. Sometimes 20 minutes LOL It's literally every throw from 2023. The more I watch it the more I think he is even better than I thought he was. It includes all the bad plays too. But you can watch (some of) it and get a real sense of him as a player. It transcends stats and narratives, and you can just see what kind of QB he is. Spolier alert: he's very very good.
  3. Excellent! Great article. A very detailed account of the process used in evaluating Williams.

  5. Looking at DVOA from last year, the Bears had the 22nd offense and 17th defense for the season. Here is how the rest of the North looked: DET 5th/13th GB 6th/27th MIN 23rd/11th So just say the offense gets to 15th (right at league average), and the defense improves to a top 10 defense (they were top 5 the last 7 weeks of last year). That would put them at 15th/10th. There were 3 teams to finish in the teens in both offense and defense last year, HOU, NO, and JAX. That should be a 10-7 record. Now looking at the other teams, DET's offense looks to be exactly the same, and based on previous seasons, most teams have a dip, so I expect DET to be top 10, but not top 5, say 8th. On defense, they should be slightly better, say 12th. That would put them at 8th/12th, and probably atop the division again. This is 11-12 wins. For GB, this will be interesting. They finished with the 6th offense and 27th defense. I feel like their offense is going to come down to earth, say 10th, and their defense will be better, say 22nd. That would put them at 10th/22nd. This is 8-9 wins. Lastly we have MIN, their offense was terrible last year and now has a rookie QB. I think they will be worse on offense, say 25th, and their defense is going to stay exactly the same at 11th. So 25th/11th. This is 6-7 wins. So with the factual scientific data output, we get: Lions 11-6 #2 Seed Bears 10-7 WC1 Packers 8-9 Vikings 6-11
  6. AZ, I am sorry for your loss. Getting old sucks. I lost my dad 10 years ago and my mom is hanging in there but getting close.
  7. The Seattle O was similar to ours last year so players that were here will adapt quickly but new players will need some time. Of course the key to the season will be how quickly Caleb adapts to his coaching. I think he has a good work ethic and has love of football that will get him there quicker.
  8. Sorry to hear about your mother, both of my parents have died but they luckily made it till their late 80s and had health until their last few years. So the best you can wish for anyone is a healthy long life. Dont know the age of everyone one on here but Im 71 and pretty healthy minus a broken neck and 4 joint implants . Pay attention to your health because its harder to recover when you get older. Eating better food souces has extended my life. I havent eaten at McD for over 9 years now. Fast food needs to be kept at a minimium becauses its not healthy food.
  9. Williams has yet to prove himself but if he is as advertized , he gets the ball out quick and will make the OL look better. With the limited picks and taking Rome at 9, we werent getting a rookie starter at center. I would have liked a prospect like you but an all pro type punter will help win a couple of games. We had the worst play at the center in the league last year, an average center will look like a pro bowler compared to last year.
  10. I am so saddened to hear about the loss of your Mother. I know your family has faced multiple challenges this year. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones. Please take care and stay safe.
  11. Dang AZ, so sorry to hear this. Prayers to you and yours...🙏
  12. I agree. Caleb needs that extra time as does everyone with a brand new offense. I don't expect we'll see much of anything with the new offensive starters during this game but I'll gladly take that extra week of practice.
  13. Finding a better option at Center is still at the top of my list. Regardless of all the other talk about pick this guy or that guy, the reality is Caleb appears to be happy to be in Chicago and it wasn't clear to me early on that would be the case. I can't argue with Odunze either. I also realize pairing a rookie QB with a rookie C is a really bad idea. After Fields was cut and it was clear we were all Caleb or nothing pinning my hopes that we'd get one of the top two or three prospects at C was fantasy. But we could we have at least had a Day 3 prospect in the chute instead of a punter. This punter better be eye opening good. Bates needs to be sufficient at C and Waldron needs to be better at play calling than what we've had to endure recently. Williams needs to play on time for the most part and we should be ok.
  14. Pix, My condolences. I just lost my mother about 10 days ago so I haven't been online much recently. I cannot imagine what you have endured. Your message rings true. Our families are a gift, Bear Down and make the time for them.
  15. Poles is clearly a smart man, but has had a few fails along the way, he thinks Bates is good enough. I will trust his judgement until he fails again. I dont think he is ignoring the position.

  17. There's different ways to slaughter that hog if it's important enough.
  18. These are not the top options we signed but the top 4 got money . The lowest rated of the four was Aaron Brewer and he got 3 year 21 mil. Chusenberry is getting 12.5 mil a year. Since we only have about 6 mil left in the cap, Poles allicated the money at other spots. He took two questionable options that wasnt gettting money contracts. It definitely an upgrade but we will see if it was enough. I think Bates will end up the starter and at least we have an experienced vet as a backup.
  19. Doh, Its Avellini. Sorry Bob.
  20. Passed at 70. Spent ten years with the Bears, getting us to the playoffs in 1977. Played his entire career with Sweetness.
  21. Thanks. I appreciate everyone's kind response. I must admit, I'm embarrassed I shared this with everyone. It wasn't my intention. Sometimes, I vent openly only because it seems to help the healing process, rather than keeping it to myself. Living alone, it is usually just me and four walls that hear my complaints. LOL A playoff run by the Bears would certainly be a welcome distraction!
  22. I am sorry to read this Pix. You have had a tough run lately that would break many. You have always had a good heart since the times I first found Bear Talk over 20 years ago and you still do. I hope the Bears can help bring you joy with this new era beginning. This site has been my escape even though the team hasn't been exactly how we would like it to be.
  23. However, I hope I am wrong, but I believe I read Shelton led the NFL Centers in QB pressures given up last year. So, if I am correct, the floor for Shelton is very low. I have more faith in Bates. It's obvious to me that there is something he likes about Bates. He was the very first FA he went after when hired and revisited again after he lost out the first time. He must feel there is something there that we are missing.
