My first gut instinct, with the way things are right now (Urlacher, Hester and others with contract disputes...no drafted QB and the improvement of both Detroit and Minnesota) I fear a less than .500 season for 2008-09. Convince me otherwise but I feel 4-12 or 5-11 is in the cards.

I find it interesting that there are those of us who are thrilled with the draft no matter what we do, and those who hate it no matter what we do. Our o-line, WR's, D-line, D-backfield, and running-back situtation are all significantly better. It's perplexing why we made a statement in not drafting a QB, but I'm sure we had our reasons. Either way, I had a great time spending about 12 hours message boarding about the Bears. Thanks to all of you who participated. Great draft.

I'm just curious to see what others think. What front office, organization, war room did well in your opinion? I like Baltimore and Kansas City...they both had good drafts, IMO.

1. Chris Williams - Pretty much a certainty on drafting a LT. Dont understand why it was him, if we wanna be a running team isnt this guy a fantastic pass blocking OT? To me all OL are the same so wont argue it. 2. Forte - Still upset we made no play at Mendenhall but it was either Forte or Kevin Smith as our RB, but thought we shoulda taken Brohm (Or Henne, bleck) and/or aquired another 2nd rounder and taken either of the above. Forte will immediately loved in chicago and will probably open the door for Benson to leave. 3. Earl Bennett - Dont really like it. Hill agrees to terms Sun, 27 Apr 2008 16:47:12 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with undrafted free-agent QB Nick Hill (Southern Illinois). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. I kind of figured they had something worked out with him if he didn't get drafted. He was a draftable player though.

1st Round - Pick #14 - Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt - With Clady off the board, the Bears had their choice between Williams, Albert, and Otah. These picks can be argued back and forth, but Williams seems to be the one most ready to help out this year. He is a stellar pass blocker (only 2 sacks allowed in over 1,500 snaps) who needs to improve on his run blocking. He only did 21 reps at the combine, but he can always improve his strength. Williams will always be compared to Otah and Albert. Reminds me of Tommie Harris vs Vince Wilfork. Nolan Nawrocki, Pro Football Weekly: With the versatile Branden Albert still available, it's a surprise that the Bears would pass him, especially given the multiple holes that exist on their offensive line. The staff & JA has indicated they want Tait to move back to RT & they want Chris Williams to stick with his natural position, LT. That's great. (Assuming Williams doesn't suck. With rookies, you never can tell). They've also indicated they like St. Clair as the starting LG. That's great also. He looked solid there. What will keep me awake at night is this: Who is our back-up LT??? The easy answer is Tait, but then that would require moving St. Clair back to RT, and moving Metcalf/Beekman or some other crappy player in LG. That's WAY too many moves. Basically we need a solid LT who can complete with Williams or fill in the back-up role.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly recognize that Mendy is the better prospect, and the "hometown boy" and could very well be a better player in the pros. I was also a little disappointed we didn't get him. But as far as the skills they bring, they both are basicially one-year wonders who catch the ball well and don't have great timed speed. Forte is more suspect coming from a lower level of competition, but he's also coming from a more pro-style offense, from what I've seen. So, onto day 2. Jerry Angelo has proven his ineptitude at grading Offensive talent once again. I too am sorry for the wasted 2nd round pick (way better picks still available at that time). However, the Bears open with two picks in the third round. Who do you like to try and pull this thing out? At QB - Brennan, Woodson, Ainge or ??? How about at WR? It looks as though there are few Hawaii WR's still available...could that mean something??? Or how about Early Doucet??? He is still there. Speaking of "still there" and from LSU..how about Jacob Hester? He could be a FB pick and put in the backfield in tandem with Benson. That would be an interesting combo. …
