Consider the source, but interesting nonetheless... http://www.profootballtalk.com/category/rumor-mill/ FAVRE FUMBLING COLES RELATIONSHIP? Posted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2008, 4:30 p.m. In response to the decision of Jets quarterback Brett Favre to go public regarding his private conversation with teammate Laveranues Coles, one league source thinks that Favre’s efforts will, at a minimum, jeopardize any trust that might have been established between the two players. And we agree. If Coles isn’t talking publicly about the switcheroo that resulted in Favre joining the Jets and Chad Pennington being booted out the door, the best strategy for co…

Got this in an email to me, should be interesting now he is reinstated. GBP now have to make a decision. Until now they could debate, tomorrow he will be on their roster. Salary Cap?

There is no doubt Favre talked to coach Mike McCarthy about coming back two weeks ago, despite Favre's claims to the contrary. It's also clear through Favre's family and this report that Thompson doesn't want Favre back. The Gazette says Favre would have "un-retired" as early as May if Thompson had asked him back, but that didn't happen. Thompson reportedly isn't returning Favre's agents calls. This is all a little childish on both sides, but Favre can force Thompson's hand by being definitive about his plans. It's debatable whether he'll be willing to do so.

There has been a lot of talk for years about crooked refs, and fixed games in the NBA. I have believed the hype for quite some time, especially considering I hate some of the teams that have won. I have varied thoughts on this, but basically I see Donaghey like Canseco. Both were called cheats. Both were proven cheats. Both said that others were involved. Both were dismissed as liars. Both were proven true. The only difference I see right now is that Canseco has much more proof than Donaghey, who only has the words of Van Gundy (who is now trying to deny those words) to back him up. Do you think it's happening? Do you think it's just the refs, or…

Is anyone else getting tired of the Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant comparisons? I could put up a ton of stats and anecdotal evidence that shows there is really no comparison, but it sure does seem to be getting more and more buzz as the years go on. Kobe's great, but he's nowhere near MJ.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Jonathan Ogden is expected to announce his retirement in the coming week. The first ballot Hall of Famer has reportedly let people around him know he's retiring, but hasn't told Ravens coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens we're expecting him to return necessarily, but this is a massive blow to the entire Ravens offense, who loses its best player. He would look good in a Bears uniform, he's only 33.

  13. Just for the hell of it...we're compiling a list of the top 50 greatest players to ever play sports in Chicago. I shouldn't really say "we're" as I'm only a submission, but knightni is doing all the rankings and all the work. Everyone submits a top 20. There is no criteria on what makes them the greatest....It's your own preference...be it world renowned, most popular, most athletic, most dominant...or whatever. As long as they're great players. It's not a list of your favorite guys or we would all have Maury Buford and his cowbell #1!! We're all pretty sure Jordan will be #1, but ya never know...Sweetness might edge him out. The more lists the better. Th…

ESPN and WIP radio host Anthony Gargano are reporting that detectives are investigating a shooting potentially involving Marvin Harrison. They are investigating whether Harrison was the shooter. Harrison owns a tavern called "Playmakers" in Philadelphia. Gargano claims Harrison and a bar patron got into an altercation there. As the fight ensued, gunfire was exchanged outside with the victim reportedly shot in the hand. Harrison, who owns 25 guns, reportedly acknowledged owning the type of gun that was used in the shooting. Harrison has met with detectives multiple times, and after initially denying the gun was in the area, now admits it's his gun, but says he wasn't …

Pro Football Weekly is hearing that the Saints and Giants may already have a deal in place that would send Jeremy Shockey to New Orleans. PFW isn't the greatest source, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen says he's heard similar rumors. Pro Football Weekly says the deal would send "multiple picks" to New York, including the Saints' second-round pick (No. 40 overall). An NFL source tells Profootballtalk.com that Shockey hasn't heard a trade is done

The Titans have reportedly agreed in principle to send suspended CB Pacman Jones to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2008 fourth-round pick. The Titans will also get a 2009 pick if Jones is reinstated and plays this season. That seems unlikely, but the Cowboys are willing to risk that on a supremely talented player. If Jones stays suspended, the Titans will send Dallas a 2009 pick. It's believed that team already has a new contract for Jones in place

The Chiefs are willing to listen to trade offers for Jared Allen, according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter and FoxSports.com. He is visiting Minnesota on Friday and is expected to visit Tampa next Friday. Allen is one of the five most valuable defensive players in the NFL, so any trade for him would be a blockbuster. It's a curious move by the Chiefs, who placed the franchise tag on Allen. They can rebuild with draft picks, but they are admitting they can't afford to keep their top talent. Allen will likely require a huge contract, a first-round pick, and probably more for any interested suitors. Minnesota has a higher first round pick than Tampa and is likely the fa…

Michael Vick is reportedly washing pots and pans for 12 cents an hour and playing football in prison. "Apparently, there was a prison football team and he played quarterback for both sides," Falcons owner Arthur Blank said. Blank keeps in touch with his former franchise player via the mail. Vick's projected date of release is July 20, 2009.

The Dolphins have reportedly begun contract discussions with Michigan OT Jake Long. Don't read too much into this; the 'Fins will probably talk numbers with UVA DE/OLB Chris Long and possibly Ohio State DE/OLB Vernon Gholston before the draft as well. Still, the negotations indicate that Jake is being seriously considered for the No. 1 overall pick. To avoid a holdout, Miami wants a contract in place before making its choice, unlike Oakland last year. Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly ran forty times of 4.75 and 4.68 at his Pro Day on Wednesday. This may very well knock the underclassman out of first-round consideration, although his knees may not be 100%. By comparison…
