  1. I'm just in shock Pompei didn't predict 16-0... Given the exacts of the sched., here's what I'm thinking... 1. ATL at CHI - L (I may have had this as a win earlier, but I just don't really like us in primetime historically...) 2. CHI @ NO - L (We're on the road agasint a good team) 3. GB @ CHI - W (We should be up for this...I hope) 4. CAR @ CHI - W (CAR still is bad) 5. CHI @ DET - L (Another primetime game to worry about. If Stafford is still upright, they should pull out a win agasint us in their own place) 6. MIN @ CHI - W 7. CHI @ TB - W - (It's in London, so it's not really a true away game...) 8. bye 9. CHI @ PHI - L (Away evening game agasint a good team) 10. DET @ CHI - W 11. SD @ CHI - L (I just think SD will win it...Greg Marmalarde tends to always out-duel Cutler) 12. CHI @ OAK - W (Unless a fan jumps onto the field and stabs a Bears player, we should win this one) 13. KC @ CHI - W 14. CHI @ DEN - W 15. SEA @ CHI - W 16. CHI @ GB - L 17. CHI @ MIN - L (Damn the scheduling on this one...it's their one shot to kick us out of the playoffs, and they just might do it) That gets us to 9-7
  2. I hear ya. Hell, I just had an ingrown toenail...and that kept me from anything strenuous for a little while! While I could pretty much walk, etc w/o issue.
  3. Agreed. Tom's article is well presented, but, like you said, drafting for the future and for the now need not be mutually exclusive. My gut feeling regarding drafting, besides QB, no other position than OL is really a "future" related pick. You can make cases for WR and CB being such, but I think OL is the unglamorous "draft for the future" pick. It's a position that does seem to have more longevity in it than most. The candle burns long, and not necessarily hot, like RB or DL. Pomei has long been shilling for the McCaskeys that I have virtually no respect for his opinion any more. I almost see this article as a smokescreen favor to the McCaskey's so he can get invited to the next dinner at Gibsons. Do we need a youth movement at LB? Yup! But, not necessarily right now. There is no Laurinaitis to get. So, pick up a guy in the later rounds and hope Angelo strikes gold again in a late round. We need OL addressed in BOTH FA and the draft. Like you say, it's the freakin' Titanic breathing doom upon it's occupants, not the USS Minnow loaded with 2 hot chicks. If we nab a blue chip DL in the first, I think I can proceed w/o a barf bag, but the next 2 picks better damn well be OL. Other than that, it's all OL with shots in the dark at a few other positions. I just think we need to walk out of the draft with one OL that can play now, one that looks to have a solid future and a DL (hopefully Tackle) that has a solid future and can contribute now in spurts.
  4. Something tells me you won't be seeing the game in the UK... The pissing contest looks to be done with streams that rival Austin Powers'...

  6. Flea, are you going? BTW, it's Tampa's home game, so our advantage for sure... I think we travel well outside of the states. Flea, any thoughts on that?
  7. Thank you for correcting my math! yes, 10-6... Should be a playoff team. Some teams on the schedule will be worse than expected, others will be better. It should even itself out to some degree barring the truly unusual.

  9. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...d-girls-at-byu/ Jim McMahon on Cutler, lockout, brain injuries and girls at BYU Posted by Michael David Smith on April 11, 2011, 10:03 AM EDT APFormer NFL quarterback Jim McMahon was brash and outspoken in his playing days. At the age of 51, that hasn’t changed. McMahon weighed in on a wealth of subjects in an ESPN Radio interview today, talking about subjects ranging from the NFL lockout to suffering brain damage on the football field to how he got away with breaking the honor code during his time at Brigham Young University. And McMahon took his former team to task for the way they handled the injury suffered by Bears quarterback Jay Cutler during the NFC Championship Game. When McMahon was with the Bears he didn’t often see eye-to-eye with the Bears’ management, and all these years later McMahon says the Bears’ management still doesn’t do enough to defend the players. McMahon believes that the Bears should have released an immediate statement saying the doctors wouldn’t let Cutler back into the game, and that if they had, Cutler wouldn’t have been criticized around the league for sitting out. “I think they just handled it poorly,” McMahon said. “Somebody should have come out and said, hey, he hurt his knee. But nobody said anything. . . . I think if they handled it better, people would have realized what was going on.” McMahon has spoken recently about how he thinks he suffered brain damage during his playing career, and that he attributes memory loss today to those injuries. But he also thinks the NFL has gone way too far in protecting quarterbacks. “I think it’s a joke,” McMahon said. “I think it takes away from what the defensive guys have been taught their whole life. It’s a violent game and guys are going to get hurt sometimes. Some of the calls that some quarterbacks get I think are ridiculous. Other guys get pounded and don’t get a flag. As long as they’re consistent I think everybody would be happy, but they’re not consistent with it.” Overall, however, McMahon said he’s doing OK, despite the problems with memory loss. “There are times when I walk into a room and I’m like, ‘Why did I just come in here?’ and I have to go back and start again,” McMahon said. “It gets a little frustrating but it’s not like I’m retarded.” McMahon was in the NFL during the 1982 and 1987 players’ strikes, and he doesn’t think highly of either side in the current labor dispute. “It’s got to get settled,” McMahon said. “There’s too much money to get lost by both sides. It’s ridiculous and the fans are the ones who are going to suffer in this.” McMahon had an interesting answer when asked about BYU basketball player Brandon Davies, who was suspended from the team this season, reportedly for violating the school’s honor code by having premarital sex. McMahon said he had a simple method for maintaining his football eligibility when he played at BYU: “You had to find girls who kept their mouths shut.”
  10. Being conservative... HOME Atlanta Falcons L Carolina Panthers W SeattleSeahawks W Kansas City Chiefs W San Diego Chargers L Detroit Lions W Green Bay Packers W Minnesota Vikings W AWAY New Orleans Saints L Tampa Bay Buccaneers L Detroit Lions W Minnesota Vikings W Green Bay Packers L Oakland Raiders W Denver Broncos W Philadelphia Eagles L That gets us 9-6. Might be good enough for a playoff spot.
  11. I got a Hester and Nagurski throwbacks last year. My buddy got the Peppers. They do look excellent campared to the orange.

  13. Nor am I. I've used the moniker "Lady Thor" for him many a time... But, I honestly don't think we could get much for him considering that his upside could still be quite good. I'm not sure Davis can step in and make the big impact. I like having both. I honestly think our (lack of) ability to draft well makes me want to keep the player more than hope Angelo doesn't screw yet another one up... I'm not a huge fan of Olsen. But, I do think we should keep him around. Sadly, he may be our best receiver...
  14. I really liked the '46 throwbacks better... The pumpkin look only works well on Halloween! (I have an orange Url one..)
  15. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/...rget-for-bears/ Cullen Jenkins looks like a target for Bears Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 6, 2011, 11:18 AM EDT Getty ImagesThe Bears don’t have a lot of key free agents to re-sign when free agency hits. Defensive tackle Anthony Adams looks like a priority according to John Mullin of CSNChicago.com, but that’s practically it. While we don’t expect another Julius Peppers-type splash in free agency, the Bears have more work to do on the defensive line. Mullin believes the team will target Packers versatile defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins. “The Bears have their targets identified for whenever free agency opens. Green Bay’s Cullen Jenkins projects as the priority,” Mullin writes. Later in the same article: “Consider Adams along with Jenkins the top two signing priorities, ahead of center Olin Kreutz in some organization thinking.” Jenkins is a bit of a risk because of his age and injuries, but he’s been one of the more underrated linemen in the league for the last few years. Rod Marinelli and Lovie Smith have a solid track record squeezing production out of veteran linemen, and Jenkins would be a worthy guy to go after. If nothing else, it would piss off a lot of Packers fans.
  16. Interesting... I think they need to find a way to keep him around.

  20. Got it. I meant moreso that how you presented the timeline could be leaning one way or another based on your personal thoughts. But that regardless of the possibility of that, the crux of your point rings true.
  21. I think Brian's suggestions are great. Especially checking out the Hancock/Sears towers. Buckingham Fountain and the park are cool to check out. For food, you can't go wrong with a Geno's where you can get both a thin and thick crust. Also, maybe Portillo's for hot dogs or Itialian beef. Kind fo tourist-y, but, first timers tend to like that. If she's a sports person, Ditka's or Harray Carray's are great stops. For a good burger outside the city a tad is Kuma's corner. http://www.kumascorner.com/ Just some thoughts...
  22. Are you looking to spend a lot or a little? Aslo, what kind of food is she into? Vegetarian? Steak eater? Food is a big part of what to do...at least for me!
  23. Rose has indeed been a pleasure to follow! Go Bulls! Can't say the same for anything related to soccer! (Sorry, it's just not my bag. I get it, but I'm just not that interested in it other than when the world cup comes around.)
