  1. Apples and oranges. Wanny did have very little to work with. Jauron had little on offense, but had quite a bit on defense. The big boys in the middle, Url in his prime, Mike Brown in his prime, Rosie Colvin, etc were something to behold. Ditka did have loads of talent. And guess what!? They won a Super Bowl! In fact, the most memorable Super Bowl in the history of the universe! They went to the NFC champ game before the SB, they lost to Super Bowl winning Wash the 2 years after '85 (year 2, '86 was the Giants), lost to SB champion record setting SF in 88 in the NFC champ game, botched it in 1989..., lost to the SB champion Giants in the divisional round in 1990, lost to the Cowboys in the wild card in 1991, had a bad year in 1992...and was unceremoniously let go by Mikey McCaskey. That's pretty good in all honesty. Should it have been more than one SB? We would all like to think so, no? What to you think 49'ers, Giants, Redskins and Coboys fans think? To me, it rested with McMahon. The moment that cheap shot artist in GB took him out, we jumped the shark. We haven't had a legit QB since Cutler arrived. So, I don't blame Ditka for not getting us there. I blame Green Bay for KO'ing our QB. F Green Bay. Is Ditka over-rated? No more or less than any other genius coach. Walsh? He didn't win w/o talent. Etc. Shouldn't have the 49'ers won more with all that talent and genius? I, personally, am thankful for we had. Did I, do I, want more? Yes! But Ditka was a positive part of that, and was, I think a chief reason we did so well afterwards. it could have been worse. It could have been Smith. One Super Bowl...a loss at that, then 3 miserable years and counting.
  2. This whole discussion is kind of funny. I honestly had a much tough time coming up with players I hated. Only a couple... I guess my thinking is that I give the player the benefit of the doubt because it's the coach that puts the player in a position to fail. Some players are just unprepared, don't care...etc...those are the ones I don't like. There are far too many I do like! Hell, virtually the entire 85 roster! Ah man, you can't hate coach! He should have won more, but his teams were always very good to great! Let's not discount the fact that he also happened into the era of prmier coaches like Walsh, Parcells, Gibbs...all HoF'ers. He isn't. Not as coach at least. And, he brought us our only Super Bowl ever. Maybe Buddy really did. Maybe Jimmy Mac and Walter did. But, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for coach! And, who else has an SNL skit? c'mon!
  3. Seriously, It's not just the ineptness of our doctors that hinders the team... It's not letting some of these young men know they have a problem and need to do something about it.
  4. You got me on those lemonej... They were pretty much before my time. But my dad speaks of them very unhighly...
  5. No argument! However, I respected Wanny and Jauron far more as defensive coordinators. There, I felt they really knew their jobs and did well. I cannot say that about Smith. But, yes as HC's for us, they were crummy. Smith was handed a pretty awesome D though. And he's made it worse. The Bears made it under Mike Brown's watch...
  6. Sounds like Hoke is Smith's long lost sibling...
  7. Super Cool! Thanks for sharing!
  8. I nibbled on the bait... SMITH!!!!!!!!! Probably nicest guy, but crummiest coach.
  9. I've tried to forget him!
  10. Loathed: McNown, Kordell a close second Loved: Walter, McMahon/Butkus a close second
  11. It's the old definition of insanity! Doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results! Once common thread...moron HC.
  12. Seems pointless now...
  13. No surprise. Other than only getting a 7th for him if he makes the roster. Hell Rams, we took your miserable defensive coordinator from you and blessed him a head coach, at least you could just straight up give us a 7th without any strings!
  14. I thought Schaffer was in Cincy?
  15. Thanks Pix. I got spammed on that too... Now I can't decide if I'm hungry for Hawaiian food or want to watch an old Monty Python episode...
  16. nfo, That line had me laughing on the floor! Thanks for the humor!
  17. I too am worried. I like Harris. I think he's a solid player at SS. I fear our current staff may not have the brain matter to see that. You know, because Zombies like to eat brains.
  18. But, I love you Chile! You'll see the error of your ways in the future!
  19. You're a little slow on this one Chile! Check above in the pinned section...
