The draft that could have been
Good points... Regarding Rex... I think the OL is almost moot with Rex. I think he has been shattered regardless. Whether by his own doing (which I think) or whether by lack of protection (part of the problem, but not all). You mention correctly that teams just figured him out. He has a great 5 games out of the box, and then was mediocre os awful after that. He bounced back well I think in the Tampa game our SB year...but there is just too much inconsistancy with a lean on awful.

QBs left on the board...
TO answer part 2...I think a combo of both. His picks are indeed questionable. (Olsen was the exception that makes the rule...) And there is no evidence that our offensive coaches are truly great at their job.

Right now...
What is this beast you speak of? I thought it either extinct or mythical.

Which rookies will make impacts this season?
Williams would be the easy choice I think...but it could be Forte. If what we're hearing about Benson being injured is true...Forte could have the bigger impact.

Best hope that Orton is the one throwing to him...

...then we are truly doomed.

Your well written comments really make my heart heavy! It rings too true...

Are Forte and Mendy that different?
I still like option 3...but given that I like your drafting...I'm more than OK with 4...

Forte, favorite to start?
He was just plain awful...

Great Draft
Again, you are spot on! Just reveiwing other team's drafts...I sit in utter bewilderment. I just read mariotti, and usually I dislike the bum, but I have a hard time disagreeing with him. I think it's been mentioned many a time that even a broken clock works right 2 times a day... I just fear Angelo with offense. I really fear us regressing at QB. Our only hope in my opinion is that Orton proves to be a great game manager...Forte runs like TJ and the O line gets it back together.

Great Draft
nfo, You are 100% correct. The draft is a total crap-shoot. And I completely agree that is should have been addressed...

I like option 3...take the LT at 14 and trade up and still get Mendy low in the 1st!

- Peter King comments on us not going QB...
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...qb.draft/1.html The three teams I didn't like: 1. Chicago. The Bears had 12 draft choices this year. No quarterback picked. Chicago had nine draft choices in 2007. No quarterback picked. Chicago had seven draft choices in 2006. Three years with a quarterback need, 28 draft choices, and never a passer picked. This isn't odd. It's negligent. The thing that drives me craziest about the draft is when you see a team with talent not doing enough to bolster the most important position on the field, over and over and over again. With Chad Henne, who absolutely should have been a first-rounder, and solid guy Brian Brohm on the board, the Bears passed on both and picked a very productive running back from Tulane, Matt Forte. There's a slight chance -- maybe 20 or 25 percent, I'd say -- that the Bears have their quarterback of the future on the roster in either Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton. Maybe. But whether you believe it or not, you have to admit it's silly not to backstop the most important position in sports. What is it about the undying love of Grossman that makes Chicago unable or unwilling to turn the page? 2. Cincinnati. For one reason: The Bengals stubbornly turned down Washington's offer of first- and third-round picks for Chad Johnson (and the ransom could have gone higher, to a second-rounder with decent production by Johnson and a first-rounder if he starred in Washington). I am in full agreement that what Johnson is doing is selfish and the team should not stand for it. But I guess this would be my question -- if Johnson were a decent, quiet, all-team guy at age 30, wouldn't you think it wise to deal him for first- and second-round picks. I sure would. 3. Tennessee. I should call this the Matt Millen Memorial Wide Receiver Stat of the Week, in honor of the Detroit executive who picked wide receivers in the top 10 of the draft in three consecutive years: The Tennessee Titans have taken a running back in the top 50 picks of the draft three years in a row -- Chris Johnson in 2008 (24th overall), Chris Henry in 2007 (50th), and LenDale White in 2006 (45th). I'm not really interested in hearing an explanation on that. It's just wrong.- The draft that could have been
nfo... I wish you drafted for us instead. At least right now!- Great Draft
I might be, but I'm kind of tired being the laughing stock of the league at QB...- Overreaction and Anger Thread
My rating was a C. I'm not happy, but in my post, you can see that I'm not certain. My feeling just isn't high. I'm not happy about taking injured and charater issue guys, and I'm not happy about not addressing QB until the undrafted stage.- Overreaction and Anger Thread
He'd still have done well... And we could have moved up in the draft to get him with losing a 3rd at worst!- Great Draft
I truly hope you are right. The perception of it all...just looks bad. The whole world sees our glaring hole at QB. We'll have to answer this question many times this year...and picking an undrafted guy doesn't quite make the questions stop coming. It's a valid question, even as much as I'd love to see this Hill kid rock!- Writers

Excellent! I'm glad you got a kick out of it! No worries! I seem to always have issue with the PM's... Thanks! I'll send you my e-amil addy...- Now what??
If I won the lottery, I'd be a millionaire. (I do like Forte...I just don't think Benson will produce anything but grief...)- Are Forte and Mendy that different?
Good comparision I think... I do like Forte, I just like Mendy better. I think he has the greater upside.- is the rest of the world nuts or just us?
No way! MEndenhall will shred this league! He's on a team that knows the importance of a running game, and does it well... the Steelers.- Overreaction and Anger Thread
Man, you sum up my feelings. Even my fiance (whoe by the way know NOTHING about football)...said, "The Bears just don't like winning do they?" - Peter King comments on us not going QB...
