  1. Absolutely loved yesterday's games. Ton of action all over the field. I was happy to see Indy and NO win. You are right, NO gave us a reminder of just how piss poor our defense is. I'm hoping SF can overcome the cold weather and send the puckers home for good.
  2. I am not as negative as long as there is cap space to get this defense to where it needs to be. Trestman mentioned in the presser that Cutler had been damaged in prior years, and we see it with the "ghosts". I think Cutler respects Trestman, unlike his relationship with previous coaches. Because of that, I think Cutler will continue to grow under this coaching staff. So I can accept the contract as long as it does not hamper the defense's development. Just relying on the draft to improve the defense won't be enough. Emery needs to shed players & sign some strong FA's. If they can pull all that off then great. Time will tell. It should make for a great interesting FA period.
  3. As well, are we really sure on the published numbers on Cutler's contract?
  4. With Cutler's contract and the need to improve the defense, the team must have to cut a ton to gain cap space. It has already been mentioned but guys like Bush, E Bennett, Podlesh, Hester, Peppers must be gone, don't they? I trust Emery but I don't see how you field an average defense next year without making these type of cuts to get better on the defense. I don't expect the team to make the same leap defensively as they did with the offense, but a 15th-20th ranked defense is achievable, and that ranking might be enough. I don't see this defense ranking higher unless Phil's upcoming all defense draft absolutely kicks ass.
  5. Assuming they stay with the 4-3, Collins & Melton would be nice, if the price is right. If Henry wants to ignore that he missed most of the season as he looks for a contract, then goodbye and fall back to Ratliff. Wooton should return as I am thinking Peppers is gone and you need an end to accompany the FA acquisition of Bennett ( I hope). I would bring back Bowman to take Peanut's place. I'd also have no problem with Anderson & Williams returning
  6. Looks good, I might switch the 2R safety with Bucannon out of Washington State. I am on board with the return of our linebackers and letting Peppers go. With Cutler's cap hit, as we understand it today, Julius cannot be afforded and Peanut is probably no longer in the picture.
  7. What was interesting is that they said they needed to get more from SMC and they felt he was capable. They also are open to moving him to a linebacker if that is what helps him succeed. Trestman even mentioned being open to a 3-4, it is on the table.
  8. Per Emery presser, all three signed
  9. I am sure this will be one of Peanuts options that he spoke of, also would not be surprised if Melton went as well.
  10.
  11. Per Jay Glazer, Lovie is finalizing deal to become the coach for the dreamsicles ( I miss those unis)
  12. It was sad to see Les Frazier get the heave ho; he seemed like a good guy. I think he will end up on someone's staff if he wishes.
  13. Yep, you are correct, there are taller tackles out there. I just have not seen him play enough to see how he positions himself. Anybody watch much Big Ten to give any insight?
  14. None for me, maybe Chud in Cleveland. But I am glad Schiano got sent packing. He's a first class asshole as far as I am concerned.
  15. As long as Podlash gets sent packing.
  16. I like, but is Hageman a bit tall for a tackle? I am worried about pad position. Of course I have not watched much of his body of work. just parts of this last bowl game and did not seem to notice him when he was on the field. Nix might be the better fit.
  17. As of right now, that is a nasty schedule. Trestman & Co. have their work cut out for them. Phil has got to rebuild this defense if they are going to compete next year against this schedule.
  18. Its the body of work for the season that has me done with him. Yesterday seemed to be the season in a capsule. I think he was hired because he was willing to forgo his own system and adopt Lovie's system & terminology. Perhaps Emery thought he was the only one who could make the conversion. That's obviously my guess, but just like the Bears had problems attracting good coaches under Lovie because they were concerned that they had only a one year window, maybe the Bears' demand that any D coordinator give up his identity was enough of a hinderance to keep top shelf talent away.
  19. When does Mel Tucker join the line? If not, then Emery needs to be fired. An asinine plan to keep the defensive scheme completely intact. Finding a willing coach was even worse. Hindsight is 20-20 but that plan blew chunks. Start over, don't blow another season. Even with new players coming in the draft and FA, it seemed pretty clear that Tucker and his crew can't teach. So why trust them with the next crew?
  20. I'd like both safeties to be sent packing but if because of finances we are stuck with one, let it be Wright.
  21. I hope the 49ers tear Erin Rogers apart
  22. Tucker must go; you can't afford a second chance for him. If he sucks his second season in, you are back at square one, only your offensive studs are a year older. So if supporters say, blow up the inherited scheme and allow Mel to run his own; what is so great about his track record that tells you his scheme is worth it? I think he got the job because he was willing to continue Lovie's defense, no one else was probably willing to do this. So in blowing up this defense, start fresh, dump the coordinator too and look at Wade Phillips or Horton. Second, dump both safeties, draft one and pick up the second starter in FA. Outside of Dix, all the rest of the draftees are rated 2nd rounders. TJ Ward or Byrd and a 2nd round rookie Bring back Anderson at LB, look to see who is a stop gap middle linebacker in FA; draft one late-leave Bostic to move to the outside Draft either one of the Notre Dame DL-1st round; sign Michael Bennett
  23. As much as I love my Bears, this has been one of the most disappointing seasons in a long time. Any semblance of a average defense and this team would have wrapped up a playoff berth long ago. To have the worst run defense in 50 years (league-wide) is unacceptable. I am looking for a forceful and definitive off season from Emery. This defense needs an overhaul, starting at the top as much as I wish. The safeties can both be sent packing.
  24. As crappy as the offense has been, this game is still winnable.
