He's not judging a pick with that statement he's judging a draft strategy. We paid the best OC $13M/yr to be our head coach. I think there was some deference to Johnson in deciding where to use the first overall pick of his tenure. For all I know that was part of the negotiation and hiring process. If that were true I'd be ok with it because I still think Ben was the best HC choice for this team. Regardless, at the end of the day Jason wanted a trench player in Rd 1.

Exactly. These days 1.3m is barely above a practice squad salary.
-
Agreed. His magical mystery tour has come to an end.

As a runner yes, can he pass pro?

Why would you take a swipe at someone who’s posts you’re not even reading? And he doesn’t mention you.

https://www.windycitygridiron.com/xs-and-os-chicago-bears-playbook-scheme-nfl-offense-defense-game-plan/101728/caleb-williams-week-8-qb-grade-bears-ravens i have to wait until I get home to drop dice this but this mirrors the two breakdown videos I’ve seen of Caleb against Baltimore. Those were Took Jenkins and Chase. One interesting point Chase made about the second grounding call. Loveland on that route has a two way go depending DB alignment. DB had inside leverage so Loveland should have taken the out. Caleb read it that way and threw the ball to nobody when Loveland literally ran into the DB and forced his way inside.

I gave my wish list a while back. Then a week or so later I watched Lance Briggs and Jerry Azumah talk about trade candidates. Both were luke warm on Jeffrey Simmons. When Quinnen Williams came up both were adamant that he's a dominant 3-tech that you should trade for. He was not in any trade talks for the last two weeks but here we are: https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/10/jets-willing-to-listen-to-offers-for-quinnen-williams

Rome was open. Caleb (I think) sees the DB heading into Rome and last second puts the ball behind him a bit to avoid that big hit. That DB had dropped way off the RB. Rome also rounded off his break a bit enabling the DB to undercut the route easier but if the pass hits him in stride there is no INT. Caleb has to see the 2 DBs bracketing Rome and should have dumped it off to the RB.

Love spell check. Rubbish was Trubisky.

While the conversation is similar there are key differences for me. First I’ve already seen Caleb throw more WR open or throw before they make their break then Field has done his entire career. Caleb can layer the ball into open zones in the intermediate routes. Fields is, for the most part, still a line of sight passer. Rubbish could layer the ball correctly but couldn’t read the coverage. Caleb make a lot of good checks at the LOS. Against Baltimore later he saw their blitz, checked to the next play and threw a perfect ball to Swift right around a blitzing Kyle Hamilton for a big gain. The one trait I want to see from Caleb is consistency. I’m definitely not out on him.

It’s fine we disagree but just because he doesn’t have a lot of targets doesn’t make him purely a blocking TE. I understand there are different roster construction strategies. For me at that draft position I want a Pro Bowl player. I think Loveland has the talent to achieve that. Just not in his first 6 games.
-
I'm right here. I wouldn't say I loved the Loveland pick but I did like it and I still do. We used a lot of 12 personnel in the Ravens game, but I don't know snap counts. I remember missing one TD early because the 3rd TE whiffed on a block at the goal line. When it is being run it is successful. I can't answer % blocking but I don't care because I like having a TE who can excel in run blocking, route running, and pass catching. I like having a coach who knows how to use that too.

Especially bad when he’s in front of his family and friends in Maryland. He definitely needs to be coached hard and I think we have the right guy to do it. For Baltimore that was a playoff game yesterday. We didn’t come prepared.
-
Likely means nobody wants him. Poles needs the roster spot.
-
Benedet does not get beat early and while he got walked backwards a few times there are some technique issues with his feet that, if he corrects it, he’ll be good. I suspect that will require a full offseason to fix. Plus he’s sticky to the pass rusher.

If we win this weekend I think it's possible some more chips are going on the table for this season, maybe for someone like Maxx Crosby. Everyone that is mentioned in the above posts are all candidates who are good players but can be shuffled off the roster to make room to fill a bigger need.

At least we’re back to talking about Bears defenders hitting a QBs.

I’ve watched the usual QB film study and some others. I watch a few other games each week. The core of this team is becoming good. The Saints blitzed a lot all game and yet not once did it feel like our Oline and Caleb didn’t know what to do. We have a ways to go to get the consistency the really good teams have but 6 games into the Ben Johnson era the floor has moved up considerably from where we were the last few years.
-
I didn't realize we hired a modern version of Tom Landry.
-
Roquan just started practicing so he'll make a difference in their run D. However, he's never been a guy to take on blockers his game is built on running around them. If we can get a hand on him he can be moved out of the play.

Caleb looked far less comfortable today than anytime since the first 2 weeks of the season. Lately he's looked very good early on in games and then some struggles settle in as adjustments are made and we get off script. I have to wonder how much the short week played into that where he gets one less day of reviewing the game plan. Given how much focus Ben has put on getting the running game going, which I think is the right thing to do, is that taking practice snaps away from the passing game? Overall Caleb had time to throw on most downs either he didn't read the defense right or nobody was open on a lot of these. Film studies will be out tomorrow but my take is this was not a good game for him. The running game continues to shine and that just feels good. Who is responsible for making Tremaine Edmunds a beast? Lately he's playing like he's on a mission. Until the last few games I don't recall seeing him play with violence like we've seen in recent games. To be fair the entire D is playing with that intensity. The D still has some holes to fill but playing with effort and (mal) intent is how it should be done. Dennis Allen has them doing that.
-
I see a side of Dennis Allen I’ve never seen before. Then just like that it’s over and he’s on to next week.

Nice to know the numbers back up what I thought I was seeing.

forgot to add Jake Moody is active again so that's more likely the spot keeping Booker inactive. It doesn't change the calculus that Homer was more valued over Booker.
