Bro. Simmer down. When you say that the last big name picks to fall this far were HOFers Moss and Sapp, clearly you are comparing Smith to them. So, as you yourself say, they fell because of issues other than their workouts, what is the connection to Smith? Doesn't really fit into an argument on Smith based on his workouts and reports of him being a nice kid. I could ask you, what is your point? Williams was brought up to give an example of someone who didn't have great workouts, made some poor choices along the way, yet fans were saying the same things. Like "I'd rather have a football player than a workout warrior", etc. My point was that, it is these types of things that raise a red flag for me and if we get a chance to pick Smith that I hope his career wont be like Mike Williams. BTW you really got me good with the estrogen comment. Very witty indeed.

The worst the kid could do is wash out of the league. However, if we get him I hope that he is as good as all you guys say.
-
lol. You also implied that he was in the same league as Randy Moss and Warren Sapp. Two first ballot HOFers (your words). And how did Mike Williams career turn out?
-
Well hell, I didn't realize it was a guarantee that Smith was going to be a HOFer. I didn't know that there was no chance of him becoming a Mike Williams. Especially since people were saying the same things about Williams (he is a gamer, workouts dont matter, etc) as they are Smith. You must be rich if you have a crystal ball that good.

Well, the first thing is that if he falls to us and then he takes two years to develop, fans will be calling this a bust and will be killing JA. This dude has more talent than Williams and people were roasting JA for Williams getting hurt and taking a year to get better. You dont take a guy with number one overall talent and wait for him to mature for two years. Thats part of the problem with him. Again my questions have nothing to do with his feet, or numbers. My questions are with why he is falling and his lack of preparation for the combine/workouts. PEople are making it sound like the sole reason he is falling is due to some magic the scouts for teams behind us and concocting. I dont buy it. Something else is going on here and I think its fair to question it. I keep hearing that the kid is great on and off the field and comes from a good family. But what kind of family allows a kid to show up and throw away millions of dollars? IS he a nice kid who is coddled? What is going to happen the first time J Allen beats him and talks crap and dances on him? Will he lose the "love for the game"? We aren;t talking about some 2nd rounder falling to the 4th. We are talking about someone who was going to be the number one pick in the draft potentially falling down to us. To me, that is a red flag. Doesn't mean he can't be a great player. I just want to know why.

I dont like McKie either. I wanted us to keep that Politte guy that we cut and he was signed by Miami. That guy was truckin people in preseason.
-
For me, its more about a laziness and lack of preparation for the most important job interview of your life...... I dont even care that much about the actual numbers.
-
Right......

I agree you can't always judge a workout, but at some point it should factor into your assessment. We aren't talking about a sleeper 4th round pick. We are talking about someone who was once considered for the top pick in the draft. So the fact that this guy is throwing away millions of dollars is ok with you guys? Is it that hard to work out from January to the combine if your future is involved? To me, it says that he is either lazy or doesn't have a passion for the game. And there are plenty of players who look good in college and are terrible in the league. Just stuff to think about...

lol We played McGaha's team (Moon Valley or as we like to call Goon Valley) in passing league the year they won state. We lost a close one and I remember hating his mouth but liking the talent. And we played Peoria when they had Keegan Herring. That guy was a hell of a high school running back.
-
Yeah, but if scouts are calling it the "worst workout they have ever seen" there has to be a red flag. Nothing would be worse than us taking this dude at 18 and him being a huge bust.
-
Yeah, but I bet if the owners had somebody do research on their behalf, that firm would find that the owners aren't making that much money. The only way I would half believe such stats and charts is if the commish's office or a third party with no affiliation to either side did the study.

I too have called out the staff on how WR's go else where to develop. It ties into my stating that the staff (in this case the WR coach) needs to develop their talent. I don't see how that is on the OC. This OC wants to throw the ball. We were starting to see a reemergence of B. Lloyd before the injury. If Davis and Hester could catch, the WR numbers would look a whole lot better. Plus we have a great pass catching TE and RB which takes away chances from the WR's. As far as Bennett goes, there is no way that the staff is sitting on the next Jerry Rice just to play Davis. We saw in preseason Bennet look lost and had the drops. So we aren't going to insert him over a vet, especially since we were in the playoff hunt until the end of the season. I side with you in this piece. I am a big proponent building through OL and DL. I think that those two things make and break both offense and defense. I dont think of Turner as some guru, but he was much better than Jason is trying to make him out. The arguments that he is throwing out are weak at best when you consider all the factors. I think the talent has not been there for Turner.
-
Kramer, Conway, and Graham thought he had a system. Berrian got mad cash cause of his system. Seriously get over it. He also ran Hester deep and Olsen deep and I guess you missed Lloyd going deep. He ran a 2 TE set frequently. So your arguments boil down to him not playing Bennett (he really showed those "glue" hands in preseason) and one play where he ran Wolfe up the gut.
-
lol. I do agree with him about the Oline though.
-
Please. I saw your picture last season. You aint pimpslapping anybody.
-
Well looks like he fits right in here. lol. Seriously though. Lets hope he has new life here.
-
We already have one return guy who is supposed to be a #1 receiver so I would rather have this draft.
-
Sharper is a SS. So if we get him we have the same situation as last year. Two SS playing. Nothing wrong with this signing.
-
Didn't Turner also say in Q and A that he wanted to get a legit WR or something? That would add to the notion of not having the players. I think also if we could improve the line that he would feel better about making the offense more dynamic.
-
Please elaborate.....
-
Again. I disagree. I dont think Turner is a run first guy. I know everyone clings to the "get off the bus running" quote, but he uses the pass to set up the run. We did plenty of throwing to the running back to replace some of the runs, so, again, we aren't a prototypical WCO, but I think Turner kind of runs his own brand of it.
-
I sort of disagree. "Get off the bus running" aside, I think Turner wants to pass to set up the run. I dont know if he is technically "west coast" because he likes to throw it deep, but he wants to pass.

Nothing wrong with the offense if the line is set. Garcia would be just fine.
