  2. As always I’m amped up for the Draft here on the eve of the 1st round just like a kid the night before Christmas!

Will Pace do right by the team or will he get selfish and greedy like the grinch?  Gamble  the Bears future with a huge Trade up, stay put, or trade back and infuse team with more potential talent? These are among just a few of the questions and draft scenarios we all ponder.

Here is my final Mock that addresses current and future needs!

I still think moving up to #10 would be enough to get one of the top 5 QBs. Will it be worth it? I think it would be if you only had to give up a 2022 2nd and a 2021 3rd (obviously including #20 in 2021). Like I said before, I think this scenario is highly likely because it essentially buys Pace/Nagy more time.

It’s totally logical and I agree that landing a top 5 QB prospect will buy Pace / Nagy more time. This franchise can’t afford another strike out at QB, hopefully they strike platinum.

  4. If the Bears are not able to move up for Mac Jones, Pace should strongly consider trading back and draft bookend OTs and some defense talent along with a developmental QB.

Pace always goes into FAgency with a plan, I think they may have tried to trade for Dalton, but at the beginning of FA, the cost was to high. If he would have waited to address the QB until May, he would have been killed by the media so he just went with plan A, or plan B .

Dalton was cut on April 30 just days after the 2020 draft.

Yeah, I was trying to go with BPA+Need, and was going the BPA available at each pick from OT, QB, WR, S, and CB.

That draft simulator you used is tough as they have a predictive mode and typically all the top 5 QBs are gone within the top 10 picks.

  7. 12 hours ago, adam said:

So why would the Bengals hold onto him that long? So you are going to risk passing on Foles, then not drafting a QB, to hope that the Bengals will release Dalton and hope he will sign with you? Come on. For one, that is way too many unknowns to deal with. Second, if the Bears did that, Dalton would've had all the leverage. So again, there is no way they were waiting on the chance to sign Dalton over trading for Foles when they did.

Most logical answer is Cincy wanted to protect themselves through the draft in case 1. some weird injury or personal issue happened to Burrow and they couldn’t risk drafting him or 2. another team offered an unbelievable trade for the first pick that they couldn’t resist!

Pace should have been aware of this situation and could have waited until after the draft to pick up a veteran QB or even made a trade with the Bengals for Dalton then; but he had already traded for Foles.  Either way I’m not convinced any other team was calling Jax about Foles who was injured most 2019 and just signed a decent contract in the previous offseason.

I would have preferred a Mitch vs Andy QB competition last year while having a 4th rounder this year.

It’s a moot point and just hoping Pace is able to draft a QB and at least one OT, ( I prefer two), that could start immediately!  Imagine, having two top tier OT’s as bookends and what that could do for the current QB and the offensive as a whole. Not to mention the  benefits of sustaining drives and scoring more points would do for the defense?

  8. Sure, the plandemic was an issue. But I’m sure most NFL front offices around the league probably knew the Bengals would draft Burrow and eventually cut Dalton. Foles may have known the KC offense but is about as elusive as a scare crow; just a terrible fit for Nagy’s scheme! But then again, 90% percent of his play calls are bubble screens.  Point is Pace has a track record of making some good moves but also has a history of getting trade raped!  Ultimately, I expected more from Pace coming from the respectful Saints organization as they are competitive most years.  Nagy is too gimmicky in his play calling and needs to put his players in the best position to succeed.  Pace needs to have a great draft this year or else it’s going to be a long time before the Bears will be in the playoffs again!

  9. Again, My biggest problem with the Dalton signing is that it was a year late. Pace could have signed AD for $3m or whatever bargain deal the Cowboys were able to in 2020. This would of preserved our 2021 4th rounder that he traded away to Jacksonville for Foles; who would have never been a Bear and Pace would never had to sign him to an extension to spread out the cap hit last year. This could have also provided Pace the opportunity to restructure and extend Fuller to a fair deal while spreading out the 2021 cap hit. So many mistakes by this Front Office that have had ripples of consequences.

He signed a $3M - 1yr deal with Dallas last year, while we traded a 4th for Foles and picked up his $24M contract. Now we pick up Dalton a year later and pay him more than Foles? Please let this be as a backup and we are trading Foles. It just seems to pay the guy triple what he got last year is quite excessive for a cap-strapped team.

Meanwhile the Saints re-signed Jaemis Winston for 1 year $5.5M.  Pace should have offered 2 years $12M deal.

  11. To me I think its more risky of getting fired if Pace makes a major trade for Russell Wilson or another stud QB,  because if it fails in 2021 there is very little doubt that Pace would be fired as is Nagy if he some how can’t give up play calling.

If Pace and Nagy want to be given more time with the Bears in my opinion it’s more logical to trade up and draft a top 5 QB that way they can sell to ownership and fan base that they just need more time now that they got their QB!

I don't know if breaking the bank for a franchise QB would be worse than what we have been doing for the last 100 years.  But maybe it's time to just find out.  Not my first choice, but what the freak.  I'm tired of what if we had?

We already know how this story plays out, we get a very good competent QB and then the Bears do to insert name [ Russell Wilson] that they did when they got Jay Cutler. Which is be all in on a QB but have no offensive line and offensive weapons while having the majority of the resources allocated to the defense side of the ball.

Why ‘cut Graham’?  Is it simply for the cash savings?  He was the only reliable receiver in the TE room (and third overall after ARob and Mooney?).  He had 8 TDs (led the team) last year which was 3 more than he got in his two years combined while at GB...with Rodgers throwing to him.  This smells of Greg Olsen all over agin.  Now if you’re talking about resigning/restructuring him in some way then ok...

And reading the article Mongo posted brought up how New Orleans is habitually over the cap and somehow manages to come out of it.  I’m assuming that’s where Pace learned this from.

I agree Alaskan, I thought Jimmy played well last year and I admittedly didn’t have high expectations when he was signed. Would like Graham to restructure and finish career with Bears.

I have zero expectations for next season.  I think the Bears are gonna over pay or give away the farm on a QB who isn't worth it. Which will leave us with no draft picks to help fix the O line.  Or they are gonna get the next "project" QB and then draft the opposite of what we need.  Gonna be a shit show either way with no real hope of any change.  Depressing.

Great points OmahaBear.  I typically am a half glass full optimist but Maybe ConnorBear is right and the second city does need a new NFL franchise to give us an escape from the McCaskey’s!  This team used to be very good at managing the cap and now everything seems so bleak and we have more needs to fill and no financial latitude to fix this shit show!  They can't draft, develop players and now there is no financial ability or draft capital to address all the needs. Maybe they need to blow it all up and do a complete rebuild starting with a QB and two top OT’s in the first round. Trade Mack, Hicks and even Fuller get as many top 100 picks as possible and start building this team the right way. This of course won't happen until Pace and Nagy are gone as they seem heading down the path of selling out for a veteran QB only to completely bankrupt team resources and precious  draft capital. So once again we will see the fruit of desperation further kick the can down the road on a total gut and rebuild job.  Feeling hopeless in Chicago, even though it's been a couple decades since I left the Windy city and moved to Denver!

  15. I would not want a second team in Chicago. We had the Cardinals years ago and now they are in AZ after a while in St. Louis. If you feel like you need a second team to root for cool, there are plenty of AFC teams to pick from. Back in the day (circa 1992) I liked the Chargers as a second team to follow as when playing super techno bowl everyone was a bears fan and we had to take turns being the Bears!  So I’d take Stan Humphries, Anthony Miller, Marion Butts, and Eric Bieniemy, to name a few when I couldn’t have the Bears.

How are the Bears getting up to 13?  I see we still have the 2nd and 3rd round picks - so are Bears trading next years 1st rounder to move up 7 spots?  I do think you probably landed on the spot at play for where the last of the 1st round QB's goes (as I think you have a few other QB needy teams right behind the Chargers & obviously Chargers should capitalize on this move since they have the QB position addressed).

Yes, they would have to trade a 2022 first rounder and possibly a second rounder to move up. In a perfect world Mac Jones would be there at 20 but the kid has the it factor from what I watched and worried he will go in the top 12 picks. Very deep draft for OT and hope the Bears don’t do anything stupid and miss out on getting stud bookends for the OL!
