  1. Yeah I agree on Sitton, I just think he is solely a health based decision. If healthy, he stays, if not, I think they move on.

Massie? He is arguably the worst RT in the league. He has accounted for more sacks than any other OL on the team. A tackling dummy is harder to get around.

I'll add that a tackling dummy does not commit holding or false starts either!

  2. It has literally become comical to watch. I scan other message boards for our opponents each week just to learn a bit about their strengths and weaknesses. I've come to the conclusion that nobody in the NFL likes their HC unless his name is Bill Belichick. Nobody likes the play calling on either side for their teams unless they are dominating and ranked top 5. To read all this you might think players have zero responsibility for what happens on the field.

"Loggains is too conservative and too predictable". Loggains throws on 3rd and 1 and he's horrible. Loggains calls a TD play to Miller (it was a TD) and nobody mentions him. Loggains also called what should have been a TD pass to Howard but Howard dropped the ball (again). Is that Loggains fault or does he understand the Howard often drops these passes so he doesn't call that play often when he's in the game?

With better execution on just three plays (add in the missed FG) Loggains called a game good enough to win on the road with a rookie QB and two practice squad WRs.

Trubisky still has a way to go. He was inaccurate at times and a bit late on some throws. He is progressing though and reading the field better. It will take more time for him to read defenses quicker, and to get on the same page with all these new WRs but I think he is headed in the right direction. It is entirely possible this team wins 3 of the next 4 games and is sitting at .500 in early December with 4 games to go.

    Good post, totally agree!

  3. Let's stop all the talk about new coaches. The arrow is pointing up for the first time in a decade. And us, as typical Bears fans, are bitching. Let this thing grow and see what comes of it next year !

Fox is a very solid NFL head coach and a strong experienced leader, Dowell is the weak link and we know that to be the truth. The bears are a much younger and have a lot of injuries. With that said they have been competitive despite being their own worst enemy at times but there is finally some young talent to be excited about. Pace needs to replace Barf and Lowgaims now!

  4. Kicker is one of the hardest positions to fill. Most teams deal with same problem we do. It sucks. Unfortunately there just aren't very many very good ones that come in and a great right away. And we didn't toss Gould so we could replace him with Barth. We cut Gould because of money. Really sucks that his replacement has been horrible. Hopefully we can find a good one in the draft next yr and better yet get some real WRs on this team for trubisky to work with so the kicker won't matter. I'm thinking we are just a couple good WRs away from being a really good team.

We need better pass protection, play calling and healthy WR and to draft of one early next year.

  5. Short and simple, the Cubs sucked but made moves that secured a future. Should the Bears just accept sucking for another year, maybe even tank?

There are countless articles about how Epstein built the Cubs. I like this one a good bit:

    http://www.bleachernation.com/2014/02/19/b...sting-the-plan/

Having said that, maybe that's the plan all along? The Glennon 1-year deal fits. The build up to next year's mega-QB class fits. If the Bears get a top 2-3 pick, that's going to bring a windfall of action. They'll likely get way more back than they gave up this year to get Trubisky.

Use a sharpie to pencil in Trubisky as the starter in '18, stack the team with free agents, pick up a tackle (McGlinchey in ND or Adams in Wash), and make a push for the playoffs. By 2019 the team should be primed to actually contend for the SB.

I agree with the cubs comparison and will add the fact that the Bears have done a very nice job with salary cap Management while building a talented neclueus of young players to build around that we have not seen since Urlacher, Briggs, Colvin, Harris, Brown, Tillman, Hester, T. Jones albeit it was really only on the defensive side of the ball! Pace has been improving the entire roster and is much more balanced approach than past regimes.

  6. Obviously we are not contending for anything this year and in general, I am a believer in keeping draft picks (if not acquiring more picks), but given how thin we are at the wide receiver position, should the Bears be actively looking at trading for someone who can be a long-term piece (vs. waiting until free agency/draft). Most of me stands in the, go with what we have camp (even if it is the worst corps in the league), however, another part of me says that if we are going to turn this over to Trubisky, we do want to put him in a position to succeed, and with the absolute lack of talent, are we actually stunting his growth by having such an incompetent corps out there? To go with that, we also have a really banged up oline (albeit, that hopefully can get better in the next couple weeks).

Not even sure who is out there, obviously Rams got Sammy Watkins right before season started.

To quote someone I greatly despies, "what difference does it make at this point? I say NO to trading for a WR and Pace needs to not shortcut the rebuilding process. So far I think Ryan has doe a nice job with FA and many of his draft picks. Why would we trade for a WR when the Bears could have kept AJ or traded him for another WR or position of need? In addition to my first point our current starting QB has no pocket awareness which complements his Jimmy Hoffa-esque cement feet!

  7. PFF came out with there projects of OLines and have us ranked 5th. PFF is just one of many ways to look at NFL players but if we just do the eye test, we have a top10 Oline.

This helps our offense become more consistent. Howard will be one of the top 5 RBs in the league this year.

The short passing game will be stellar with many TE prospects, Cohen out of the backfield, and Wright or Cruz out of the slot.

Glennon is a accurate passer when given time making our down field threats viable. Wheaton, White, and Meridith.

All good good. winning record this year, I PREDICT

Ranked 5th from the bottom of the entire NFL???

  8. He is going to have to trade up in the draft because we will not be in the top 15 drafting this year. My point is, we are going to have a winning record this year, at worst 8-8. That is not the normal narrative in all of this but:

QB will easily show more production out of this group over the emergency effort we had last year.

RB with one of the established better RBs in the league, we also added scheme production with the likes of Cohen and maybe Cunningham.(although I think he may not make the roster)All of this will push more production out of Langford.

WR how can anyone say our group this year does not have more upside than last year. Ashton had a mediocre season, our best WR. We will have two WRs with better production than he had last year.

TE Other than a injured Miller, Paulson was our next best TE? Shaheen is a future all pro, Miller with less snaps will stay healthy and Sims not only gives us stability but helps the running game substantially .

OL we improved dramatically last year and this year only gets better. Long hopefully stays healthy all year and much added depth at all positions. Massie will be average and Leno will be a improved below average LT. With the two TE scheming we will do , this will be one of our strengths.

DL If we stood pat, a healthy Goldman and improved Bullard would have been great improvement but we added a starter in quality starter in Howard and good depth in Jenkins and RRH. a top 10 defensive front.

LBers With Trevthan coming back and McPhee being healthy again, major upgrade but you add a second year of Floyd that will reach double digit sacks and Houston and Skatu in the mix, big thumbs up. I predict we lead the league in sacks this year.

CBs just by numbers it has to be better, but with Cooper, Prince, Banks, Webb, and the improvement of LeBranc and Calahan, a giant step forward.

Ss Demps will lead the team in Ints, you add Jackson that will be an all rookie candidate, the switch of Hall and Amos fighting for a roster spot, major improvement.

Overall, barring injuries, we will have a winning record. That looks like an ridiculous statement from this side of the season, but stay tuned, it will happen.

I agree with Stinger's assessment as there is no doubt this team has more depth and talent than we have had in years. And it is also much more balanced than the Lovie years when the defensive was the predominant unit and where resources where highly invested to the detriment of the other phases of the team. Pace has done an excellent job of bringing younger talent, more depth and creating financial flexibility! I'm excited about the Bears!

  9. We also need to acknowledge the pressure of not taking a QB, the top rated in the draft per Bears board regardless if we think Pace needed to make the trade or not is a major factor here.

In all honesty, Pace is in the position of damned if he does and damned if he does not Draft a QB especially after moving on from Jay Cutler and signing an unproven veteran in the offseason.

Let's say Pace decided to play it safe and picked a defensive player and passed on the QB, the defensive player never lives up to his expectations and the QB turns out to be a perennial top 10 starter in the league for years but for another organization and potential NFC rival.

Remember Pace is a young GM and I think if this scenario played out he has lost a tremendous amount of credibility as being the top talent evaluator in the organization and would be harder to keep his job or get a new one especially when you factor in the paramount importance of having a talented QB who is both a winner and leader of men. If Mitch T. becomes an average QB at best then Pace can always say Trubisky had the best measurables, talent, and intangibles of all QB prospects in 2017 and our whole scouting department was on board with this assessment. Pace would obviously follow that point with something like, we all know that the draft is a gamble and given the position our franchise was in we needed to accept that and take the opportunity to draft a potential franchise QB which is always the catalyst to becoming a championship caliber team.

  10. Just heard the newest spin on the NFL draft from "sources" close to the Bears. Supposedly Pace was told to get a QB no matter what with the first pick. He is not the man in charge when ownership is making the football decisions. Why does everything have to be a conspiracy. From Fox didnt know to this now.

The Cardinals were praised for trading away their future for Mahomes and they said you do that for a QB that can be your franchis for 10 years. Bears do it and the world collapses.

Connor, I think you meant Chiefs but completely agree with your point. I think Bears nation is just worried about being patient and developing this QB properly ala Aaron Rodgers with Green Bay

who spent nearly 4 years behind Brett Favre before getting his chance. I'll admit that I am worried that the Bears may not have the patience nor staff to develop a franchise QB since recent history

has proven they could not in the past with players like Rex Grossman for example. We fans have been so conditioned to expect to draft mostly Defensive players every year over the past few decades that it feels awkward and so

strange when the new regime does this unimaginable think and trades up to pick a QB. What will be even harder for fans will be to accept and be patient with regards to expectations and not to pressure the organization to rush Mitch into the startng lien up both before he is ready mentally and before ensuring our OL is able to provide reliable pocket security like how Dallas was able to do for Prescott. Hopefully next year will be a great year to draft an franchise LT!

  11. I can see where everybody looks at this draft and bad mouths, it. I did too, but the more I look the more I understand his plan.

first of all, everybody says SF pants us, no one has that knowledge, but I think it will come out someday. If we are taking calls from teams to move up for a QB, does anybody thinks its logical to think SF didnt take calls. From my point of view, I would have wanted a stud D guy and then draft a prospect in the second. The second is worth more that the 3 and 4 we gave up. We got those most of the value of those picks back and drafted the best prospect in the draft, but more importantly it is who Pace wanted. As far as signing Glennon, we went out and got the best QB available in this years off season and I think they think we are going to start winning. The idea situation is to sit Trubisky for 2 years and then let him play at a higher level. Throwing rookies not ready into the fire right away usually wrecks them. He is doing it the right way. I give him kudos for doing this way. Also if Glennon plays well then we will get value back from his success and also put us in play to be successful for the next two years.

Another thing to consider is we are closer than we look last year, the injuries derailed us from winning 6 games, maybe a few more. We have players in place that will ascend that no one is looking at right now.

    Bullard

    Bush

    D. Hall

    White

    Grasu

    Floyd- another step forward

    Robinson-Harris

Leno will be one year better.

Whitehair and Howard are already accepted and they are ascending.

We added Cooper, Demps,Cunningham, Wright, Wheaton, Jenkins, Prince A.,Banks, Sims, and Mike Glennon. All of these signings will make us better.

Our team is already much better than last year.

Tribusky is being developed , Shaheen will contribute but not start, Jackson will start if not right away in the early part of the season. Cohen will be a situational contribute in the same design as Tryeek Hill. Morgan will be Sittons future replacement.

The most important piece is drafting our future franchise QB but every draft pick could turn our to be gold.

Tribusky-- franchise QB has been compared to Matt Stanford

Shaheen- is almost exactly a clone of Gronk, but to not be dumb, will turn out to be a Jason Witten type. When Mitch is our QB, Shaheen will be his go to guy.

Jackson- Barring the two injuries, one in 2014 that he played well after and the other a broken leg early this year. With all the studs on Ala defense, he was the captain. If he doesnt start from day one, if will be early the first year.

Cohen-- He will be an immediate contributor, everybody says Sproles clone but he is Tryeek Hill.

If we stay fairly healthy, McPhee,Trevathan, Long, Goldman, and White, we are A BETTER TEAM.

I will say 8-8, but could be better.

Think about it, Howard makes us a power running team with a two TE set, a joy stick in the backfield or split out and a couple downtown threats in Wheaton and White.

This offense could be dynamic, plus another step forward on D and we are a much better team.

I completely agree with Stinger and don't understand how we are not a much better team this year than last?

Yes, the draft was strange as the Bears never trade up in the first round so I am still trying to get my mind around that.

But looking at each player drafted, there is something to like about all of them.

Typical Bear fans complain about everything and do not appreciate that we have a GM trying to make this team better albeit in an unorthodox way.

This team has a history of not taking QB's as well as not being to draft and develop a franchise one at that.

I have been living in Denver now for nearly twenty years. Several years ago I really admired Mike Shanahan's aggressiveness when he identified a potential franchise QB and traded up in the first round to draft Jay Cutler.

Too bad Shanny was not able to continue on with Jay but the rest is history. I still appreciate Jay Cutler and what he brought to the Bears but most Bears fans are to pessimistic to understand why.

Now back to the recent draft and the direction of the Bears. Its just way to early to be overly critical of this draft class. The draft is always a gamble but I believe it will be a successful draft if we yeild 2-3 starters

out of this class within the next two years and even more so if on of these starters is a legit NFL starting QB!

  12. Here is my POST FA mock draft trading back several time to acquire talent!

    How You Matched Up:

    1. Chicago Bears - 13918

    2. Los Angeles Chargers - 13488

    3. Carolina Panthers - 13431

    4. Seattle Seahawks - 13415

    5. Philadelphia Eagles - 13282

    10. Buffalo Bills - 12705

  13. Yes. I think it has to constantly be in Pace's mind. Which is why I'm fully prepared to be upset during the first round of the draft. Allen is who I want, not who I think Pace will pick.

Is there any chance Bears trade up to get Garrett and what would it cost to do so?

    Thoughts?
