  1. the packers are certainly one team that clearly gets preferred treatment from the refs game to game. it is so clearly obvious i don't know how these ref teams even keep their jobs. roughing the passer is a joke especially when it involved rogers or favre. i remember cuttler getting beat to a pulp after the ball was released with no flags at all. same with bears crucial holding penalties and DB's pass inter. any team playing the bears has the luxury of the 12th man on the field. it also relates to other teams in the league like KC, used to be NE and others.
  2. GOOD FOOTBALL?? maybe, maybe not... this is a MAJOR problem in today's NFL: the 12th man on the field, the referee's. Over the last 15+ years professional football has nearly (if not truly) become an exhibition rather than a sport. maybe similar to all star wrestling where the outcome is preordained. especially since the NFL has locked in step with professional gambling. who is REALLY paying the refs salaries? in my opinion only, the refs can and are shaving points and actual outcomes of who wins and who loses. this brings the outcomes to the vegas gambling syndicates determining the final outcomes of score and wins and losses. the NFL itself has done nothing, if not actually promote, this scenario in multiple ways. 1. a multi BILLION dollar corporation still will NOT hire permanent full time professional referee's who are accountable for their actions. this in itself is a very curious scenario. ask yourself why? who are the watchdogs over this very important aspect of the NFL. are they proclaiming to just be saving money? that sure doesn't wash with me. in the past ANY gambling aspects related to professional sports was not only frowned upon but actively attacked by the leagues whether they be baseball, football or any other major sport. now they are promoted in ads during the games. 2. the NFL actually promotes point shaving and referee misconduct. they have made the rules so ambiguous that nearly ANY call or non call is correct. this leaves the refs to regulate the flow of the game and the final scores and outcomes. to me it seems clear, early in the games whatever team that they may project to win receives multiple calls, non calls, at critical junctions in critical drives in their favor. these shadow calls non-calls could happen multiple times throughout the game on both sides but are not done so. usually this occurs when a game pivot point is happening. then to 'smooth' over these critical calls against one opponent they start flagging the other opponent when the game is usually in hand by who they wish to be effected. why you ask, would they do this? the simple answer is MONEY. it's TV rights/marketshare, advertising kickbacks, NFL product sales, fan attendance, superbowl market money and yes, kickbacks from the gambling circuits who pay for NFL advertising and logo rights and probably much, much more. so ask yourself... is what you are watching real sports or just a money making projection?
  3. an organization that is competent like any other business. an organization that understands professional football and how to maintain high quality players and staff. OUR OWNERS: should be by now smart enough to know they know NOTHING about how to operate a successful franchise. let intelligent football people run the show and stay out of anything to do with football operations until the people they hire as president are proven to be bad and for keerist's sake FORGET/DELETE polians phone number. better yet sell to mark cuban. PRESIDENT OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS: has to understand how the nfl works and how an individual franchise SHOULD function. his job is to hire a GM and let him do the job a GM is paid to do. the day he hires a GM he should have a board with every name on it to replace the GM if he fails or if he retires or dies. keep this board updated every season with eyes on experienced GM's and up and coming ones. he shouldn't be waiting until it reaches critical mass to start looking for replacements, he should have them now. observe how other successful franchise GM's operate and use this as a sounding board on evaluating the one he hired or ones he would intend to hire. his job also involves keeping the facilities in modern updated condition for staff and players. GM: 1. his first and foremost job is to hire a head coach without ANY interference from the president or owners. input maybe but no strings attached to who he can go after. when he is hired let HIM decide who if any of the current coaches he wants to retain or fire. if he wants them all gone... adios. the minute he hires a HC he should be looking for his replacement. he too needs a board with the names of the BEST coaches he can hire if it goes off the rails. not only existing coaches who become available but all coaches even under contract plus the up and coming coordinators/coaches. if he decides to terminate a HC he shouldn't have to wait a new york minute deciding who to replace him with. salary holdover should never be a consideration. also he needs to evaluate how other coaching staffs are operating, especially the good ones, and infuse this into the entire process of evaluation. if a rare good one comes up get rid of the mediocre or bad staff and go after him now. 2. the same as above in regards to the scouting department for both college and pro. again a board with the names of the best and most successful out there. if they become available GET THEM. it's his job to improve this team to win superbowls not just make the playoffs or any other consideration. just win. his lifeblood will rely on the draft so get it right. this also holds true to free agent acquisitions. have a board with names and use it. if one comes up pull the trigger even if you have to replace an average player with one who is excellent. just do it!!! 3. support staff. his job is to evaluate every aspect on where his franchise support employee's fit into making this a first class organization from the HC to the water boy. realize the buck stops with him. if the team fails it's on his shoulders. all this said, i am sick to death of this mom and pop franchise that NEVER realizes their mistakes or learns from them. it's just the same crap. they hire someone else (usually unqualified) to think for them and then muddy up the waters with stupid input and restrictions on who they hire for ANY position. they are so out of touch with how anything should operate in the nfl it's like putting on a blindfold and throwing darts at the wall. by the time they make decisions, good or bad, the time has past them by to even implement them. to put it frankly, they are STUPID and it seems they are proud of it. i have wasted decades watching this same crap over and over again. different this and that, different day, different season, same results.
  4. does this sound FAMILIAR? "However, a new wrinkle emerged recently via David Kaplan o ESPN 1000. It was all but confirmed that Poles and Eberflus were an arranged marriage. Team chairman George McCaskey had a short list of names he liked and allowed Poles to choose from it. He chose Eberflus. Another top Bears insider has since backed this up. Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron revealed that the Eberflus hire was almost exclusively spearheaded by McCasky and advisor Bill Polian. Poles merely had the illusion of choice." "This was a hire that was doomed from the start. The Bill Polian GM and Head Coach search was always flawed. Don't pin this hire on Ryan Poles. If you want to criticize him for the Mat Eberflus hire. That was not him. That was Bill Polian and George McCaskey. Sure, Ryan Poles gave it a rubber stamp, but what was he supposed to do? Pound the table for Jim Caldwell? The list of finalists was poor and when you pick from a bad list, you'll end up with a bad coach." Eric Lambert - Sports Mockery https://www.sportsmockery.com/chicago-bears/another-bears-insider-confirms-growing-ryan-poles-buzz/ if this article is true it's the same ole same ole BS. the dumbest owners in the history of ANY professional sports franchise weighs in yet again. also if true, how does bill polian keep making garbage choices for this franchise? how many of his GENIUS picks have been even close to being even good let alone great?? it's like polian really hates the mccaskey's and the chicago bears and just keeps sticking knives into this franchise and has for decades. i wouldn't hire polian to pick a pop warner coach if there was only one candidate in a one team league.
  5. if all this is remotely true (and i would not doubt it) it's the same crap that has gone on from this family owned franchise at LEAST since 1980 (finks leaving and muggs halas dying). this family who have been owners of this franchise for over a hundred years know absolutely NOTHING about how to run and manage a professional football team. it's the same shite year after year after year. they just can't keep from sticking their fat, dirty, greasy fingers into the pie in some way or another. it's almost hard to believe how little these people understand anything sports related except how to milk money out of this franchise at the players and fans expense. mike mccaskey gone? nope just another halfwit named mccasky running this franchise into the ground with childish, stupid, bass ackward decisions.
  6. 20 mil for a guard per year??? that would destroy the cap.
  7. we have a player on this team that could get the best information on qualifications of belly there is... caleb williams. supposedly tom brady has been mentoring him? if so this would be a hard yes or no depending on brady's evaluation to caleb. that said, there are few coaches in the nfl present or past i dislike as much as belly. he is a cheater which makes him a liar and a thief. at least half of his superbowl wins should have been taken away from the pats and given to their opponents for cheating. his resume also is incredibly dismal. take away drew bledsoe and tom brady and see what his record looks like as a head coach. almost anyone can coach a team with HOF and very good qb's to winning records.
  8. again, i know nearly nothing about the actual real play requirements as you and ashkum are putting forth, but, here are the pluses... 1. size 2. arm length 3. quickness - he certainly would fit the description a pulling guard would require - he can get to the second level as a blocker 4. he supposedly is a good run blocker 5. he would not have the lateral movement or assignments a tackle has for DE's. this SHOULD help him with the type of assignments required by a guard? EDIT: being required as tackle to have good lateral movement, shouldn't this also be a plus with him in the guard position on stunts or blitz's?
  9. highly doubt this guy is in the running. he just signed an extension on his contract. they would have to give up the moon to get him. https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/kevin-stefanski-contract-everything-know-browns-hc-s-extension
  10. if he could be an above average guard that would be big for our draft and free agency off season. if he can't play guard then cut him next season.
  11. if that hasn't already happened at this point in his career what are the chances of it in the future? would a position at guard be a better match to his skill set do you think? he wouldn't have to move as much to make blocks as he would at the tackle position against the best/quickest d linemen. less chance for DL to get under his pads? If not then a swing tackle at best.
  12. just for curiosities sake, could braxton jones play guard without getting blown up? it's a whole different type of position. if he COULD play guard that would work out pretty well and then be a backup tackle if needed. what does anybody think?
  13. totally agree. you can watch almost ANY game this season and right off the snap he is being walked back right into the qb. not just once or twice but nearly always. what he truly EXCELS at is helping the qb off the ground after he is knocked down by the man he is supposed to block. if that were a requisite for the HOF he would be in on the first ballot.
  14. agree. the top prospect SHOULD be an offensive minded coach. without looking in depth at the candidates yet i will give my first choice as johnson the lions OC. if he can make goff a good qb he has my vote.
  15. PLLEASE not mccarthy. he rode the shirt tails of 2? HOF qb's. he has done nothing in dallas and is getting fired. he is a meathead.
  16. can't we just play a defense that doesn't give 10+ yards cushion on every play? we are game planning the same OBSOLETE zone crap that got lovie fired. i am so sick of seeing receivers wide open in the gaps and our db's 5-10 yrds off the reception/tackle. every single team we play knows this is how you move the sticks on us. the packers have done this to us for 20 years. also giving a qb all the time in the world to throw hail mary's just does not work. rush him for keerist's sake if he has to make a 50 yd throw. make him hurry it instead of sitting there waiting for his receivers to run all the way to the goal line and get set. mindboggling.
  17. some of this has to go on santos. yesterdays for sure. he is not getting the elevation to his kicks and they are being blocked at the line of scrimmage. that is totally unacceptable. it's all in the 40's range just like it was two? years ago when he was all over the place. he has now cost us 2 games. hot and cold seasons seem to be his norm. that said, it is also on the coaching staff. flus for not trying to gain a few yards more with johnson in the packer game. at least this game is on hightower for not realizing the problem with his kicker and practicing it ALL week to change his trajectory. it is also on hightower for not getting the special teams linemen all on the same page in blocking.
  18. no, it is a BAD idea. you always take the points unless time and score dictate. to give up a field goal from where they were at in the THIRD QUARTER is criminally stupid. that call is the assumption that your opponent will never score again in a quarter and a half. we got beat every way possible: the other teams play, our poor play and penalties, BAD coaching, the REFS. this is a shite show.
  19. casually observing without going over game film, it seems strange to me that a lot of our passing sets have multiple receivers on the same side of the field. is this making it easier for defenses to choke off the receivers flooding those sides with safeties and linebackers? i don't remember seeing many if any across the middle routes for a quick hit either. the qb also is staying in the pocket too long. more planned rollouts especially since the line is like a sieve. nobody is seeing the blitzes or stunts and picking them up. all in all it looks to me like a shite sandwich.
  20. he went to N.O. i believe. then later died from cancer i think. the reason for him leaving was halas who didn't want to listen to him and basically did what HE wanted as in hiring an incompetent mike ditka. so as i said before we drove out the one good management tool we had by ownership incompetence.
  21. agree. it won't happen but i agree. it's time that someone in this organization took accountability for their actions... poles. this losing wishy washy attitudes need a kick in the arse. dump flus, waldron and that waste of space davis. maybe some players will respond to accountability.
  22. i thought right away of finks BUT... he was basically forced out by G. Halas by choosing ditka against his wishes. so in essence we did the opposite. instead of hiring incompetent people we forced out the one good one in 60 years. finks was the product of muggs halas i believe the same for buddy ryan. muggs dying was the few years of hope/competence in this franchise since the modern age of professional football.
  23. I dont disagree but the only push against that narrative is the new people running things, mainly Poles. He has did many good things but will all be underminded by retaining Flus. We get to see how the yr plays out. He clearly did not address the OL well enough to work. We have added talent and have a (maybe) franchise QB, the most important acquisition (maybe) in our history? how many times in the past have we seen the SAME scenario? we pass on the best coaching options out there to retain a coach we fire a year or two later? this comes to mind... ANDY REED. we could have had him when he left philly for nothing yet we don't see him as an upgrade to trestman and his ilk? as much as i dislike harbaugh and think he is nuts that SHOULD have been the choice but according to a poster on here at the combine they didn't even CONTACT him for the job. The rebuild is 2 and 1/2 yrs old, he is not finished yet. He stated it will take 4-5 yrs to do a complete rebuild. We have never seen that before in our history. This is what it looks like. He addressed the OL but it isnt working. He will get one more yr to finish building the roster. Flus wont be here, does it help CW to get rid of him now? You cant do anything about the OL in season. The fanbase will like it but will it matter? do you destroy the entire team you supposedly are building to keep the weakest link?? the one that will cost you at least TWO more years if you bring in another coach? you have WASTED the franchise qb's contract and possibly his mental stability to be all that he COULD have been, you have WASTED the good will from past and FUTURE free agents, you have WASTED numerous high draft picks and POOR free agents. where is that SILVER LINING?? it's just dejavu' all over again. Fire Waldron , make Tom Brown OC, Flus give DC play calling to Williams and be the HC only. I think that iis the best scenario we may have. We dont have a person in the coaching staff that can turn this around. this is yet again a FREAKING bandaid on an amputated leg.
  24. in over the last 60 freaking YEARS name me ANY head coach, GM or executive that has EVER left chicago to become successful with another franchise at the job they were doing here.... JUST ONE!!! i'm sick of it. sick of the poor management and poor decisions this franchise makes year after year after decade after decade. do we yet again keep walking through knee deep mud? what a shit show.
