Between these guys who will step up and who should we give a chance to? Reed=practice squad Beekman=starter Garza=starter Balogh=practice squad Buenning=starter in Tampa Metcalf=starter before St. Clair=played there before
-
IMHO I think we leave Williams at LT and move St.Clair to LG, Kruetz at C and replace Garza with Buenning and put Gross at RT

Bills | McCargo could be released Sun, 15 Feb 2009 13:14:19 -0800 Mark Gaughan, of The Buffalo News, reports the Buffalo Bills may release DT John McCargo this offseason so they can save some salary cap space. The Bills would save $1.83 million if they released McCargo.

It sounds nice but really we might not be able in the draft to get either Laurinaitis or Maualuga so we would get a second tier player to fill the middle....no thanks
-
We need to resign St.Clair and go after Gross too
-
Looks like we will be going after Gross from the Panthers!

David Bruton, FS, Notre Dame Height: 6-1. Weight: 210. Projected 40 Time: 4.49. Projected Round (2009): 5-6. 1/14/09: David Bruton, a two-year starter, was invited to the Senior Bowl. 12/14/08: One of the few productive players on Notre Dame this season, David Bruton managed 93 tackles, six passes broken up and three picks. 5/19/08: A team captain going into the 2008 season, David Bruton recorded 85 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama Height: 5-11. Weight: 195. Projected 40 Time: 4.44. Projected Round (2009): 2. 1/14/09: Voted to the AP All-America Second Team, Rashad Johnson was called "one of the smartest players I've ever coached" by Nick Saban. 12/14/08: Easily an All-SEC first-teamer, Rashad Johnson totaled 82 tackles, five TFL, 11 passes broken up and five picks, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Johnson's 40 is good enough to excite Al Davis. 5/19/08: A member of the first team All-SEC, Rashad Johnson had 94 tackles 5.5 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups. 2007: Made his first start against Hawaii last year and hasn't looked back. Rashad Johnson has become an important part of Alabama's secondary. He can help in the return game at the next level. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Maryland Height: 6-2. Weight: 205. Projected 40 Time: 4.33. Projected Round (2009): 1-2. 1/8/09: As expected, Darrius Heyward-Bey has declared for the 2009 NFL Draft. If he runs a low 4.3, he could be taken in the first round. 1/4/09: Darrius Heyward-Bey had just 38 receptions, 553 yards and five touchdowns in 2008. His supporting cast was pretty pedestrian, so don't judge him on those numbers. 10/19/08: Despite catching just 12 balls entering the Wake Forest game, Darrius Heyward-Bey dominated the Deacons, catching 11 balls for 101 yards and a touchdown. 5/22/08: Darrius Heyward-Bey was inconsistent in 2007. Then again, any receiver would have been with the garbage Maryland had at quarterback (Chris Turner and Jordan Steffy combined for nine touchdowns and 11 picks). Heyward-Bey has a pretty sick 40 at his size. He has a shot to run a high 4.2. 2007: As a freshman, Darrius Heyward-Bey led the team in receptions (45) and receiving yards (694). All of his production came toward the end of the season. Named to the preseason first-team All-ACC. Still has a lot of room to grow - it's almost scary how good this guy can become. Troy Kropog, Tulane Height: 6-5. Weight: 316. Projected 40 Time: 5.02. Projected Round (2009): 2. 1/6/09: A three-year starter and a member of the All-Conference USA First Team, Troy Kropog is finally getting the recognition he deserves after opening up massive running lanes for two of the nation's leading rushers. 5/24/08: A very athletic zone-blocking lineman who had a long streak of consecutive snaps going into the 2007 season. Fenuki Tupou, Oregon Height: 6-5. Weight: 333. Projected 40 Time: 5.28. Projected Round (2009): 2-3. 1/6/09: Like Andre Smith, Fenuki Tupou had problems with having contact with an agent. Just another example of how out of control the NCAA is. 5/24/08: A monstrous right tackle who will also be able to play some guard at the next level. Fenuki Tupou started 12 games in 2007 after red-shirting the 2006 season. Louis Vasquez, Texas Tech Height: 6-6. Weight: 335. Projected 40 Time: 5.24. Projected Round (2009): 4-5. 1/8/09: Helping Texas Tech's offense score billions of points, Louis Vasquez qualified for the All-Big XII Second Team and AP All-America Third Team. 11/2/08: Yet another guard who has suffered through injuries this season. 5/25/08: Despite playing in Texas Tech's pass-happy offense, Louis Vasquez didn't allow a single sack in 2007, earning himself a spot on the All-Big XII first team. Vasquez has started 22 consecutive games. Travis McCall, Alabama Height: 6-0. Weight: 260. Projected 40 Time: 4.70. Projected Round (2009): 6-7. 1/5/09: A powerful blocking fullback-tight end. Travis McCall had just eight touches as a senior. David Johnson, Tulsa Height: 6-3. Weight: 220. Projected 40 Time: 4.75. Projected Round (2009): 6. 12/20/08: David Johnson finished the season with a 3,866 yards, 43 touchdowns and 18 picks. Most impressive was his sterling 10.3 YPA. An All-Conference USA honorable mention. Domonique Johnson, CB, Jackson State Height: 6-1. Weight: 192. Projected 40 Time: 4.34. Projected Round (2009): 3. 1/13/09: Was an AP Division 1-AA All-America First Team selection. If it weren't for Al Davis, Domonique Johnson would probably be a fourth-round prospect. Johnson will be at the Senior Bowl. 12/13/08: Attention, Al Davis! This man runs a low 4.3! Draft him now! 5/17/08: Let's see... very tall (6-2), very fast (4.34 40) and very annoying to opposing quarterbacks (five picks). Domonique Johnson transferred from Missouri to Jackson State for undisclosed reasons, so that's keeping me from putting him any higher on this list.

Bottom line here is we cut Moose and Booker, Holt lie the other two are good players but they are just now too old for our team. We need speed guys on the outside and they can't do that anymore. We have too many slot players, Davis, Bennett, Hester, we need the outside catch everything, go deep guy like Moss, Fitzgerald etc

First off any post here is just a matter of opinion, you have yours and I have mine, so what I posted was for someone to see what others have said. Now if you really read the post in the first place you would have seen that I didn't write it sir. So please in the future please refrain from such attacks when you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about...

The Perfect Compliment for Matt Forte: Cedric Benson by ifuwannacrownem on Feb 13, 2009 6:41 PM CST There is no Denying that Matt Forte Gave us the best chance to win in 2008. He broke many rookie rushing records last season, as well as some receiving records. He also finished third in total touches behind the Vikings Adrian Peterson and the Falcons Michael Turner. Through the good, Chicago still managed to finish 24th in yards, 26, in average yards per carry, and 24 in yards per game. The aforementioned teams had the right formula to constantly pound the rock: a spell-back and the threat of a deep pass. The Bears however, had their backs against the wall, and therefore ran into other walls. Do we need another back? Ron turner certainly believes so. So why don't we have a number two guy? Believe it or not, The best running mate for Forte was on our roster before the season even began. Cedric benson- I know what most of you are thinking, just bear with me. The NFL is having a running back renaissance, where picking one in the first round does not always mean he'll be the feature back. For example, the carolina Panthers, who ranked third last season in total rushing yards, drafted Jonathan Stewart 13th overall. He was drafted to compliment Deangelo Williams(also a first rounder), not to take his role as starter. I don't need to describe Ced to anyone on this board. In 2006, Chicago ranked 15th in the rush, but was still regarded as having one of the best tandems in the league in Jones and Benson. Benson had 157 carries for 647 yards(4.1 ypc) and six scores. Good numbers for a backup role. One play i can vividly remember is in the NFC championship game, when he took a handoff up the gut 12 yards for a score. I remember thinking "That's the working formula". So what happened in 2007? Simple: Benson was put in a bad position. It's misleading to think the offensive line's decline happened in '07. The fact is, that line was bad in 2006. There's a reason why Rex Grossman won NFC player of the month for September: the Bears couldn't run the ball. The Bears ran a total of 85 rushing plays for a total of 251 yards. less than 3.0 yards per carry. For a team built to run, that was unacceptable. Sure, they got better down the stretch, but not before that infamous monday night clunker at Arizona (16-38-2.4). Let's rewind four years back shall we? In 2005, the Bears had to run the ball harder to make up for having then rookie Kyle Orton under center. Jones had more cutback lanes, Benson started to hit his stride midway during the season, and when both went down with injuries, the original Adrian Peterson came in and didn't miss a beat. In fact Peterson was a solid contributor in '05, having 76 caries for 391 yards for a 5.1 average. That's what the issue was. Jones averaged 4.3 yards per carry, Benson had 4.1 yards. In 2006, the bears ran the ball 471 times (sans QB scrambles) for 1916 yards which is a 4.1 average, whereas 2005 they ran the ball 461 times for 2,025 yards for a 4.4 average: a big difference when you're talking about a game of inches. Now on to 2007. Chicago ran a total of 391 plays (a very significant drop-off) for 1,276 yards for 3.3 yards. Benson was ineffective, as was Peterson, and Garrett Wolfe was used very sparingly. After the bye week Benson ran the ball more effectively, especially in Seattle and Denver before being knocked out for the year. Let me reiterate my previous statement, Benson was put in a bad position. In 2008 two separate off field issues forced the bears to release Cedric, or so they say. Was that the legitimate reason? Or was it because of his work ethic? Or maybe Jerry Angelo needed a scapegoat for his absent-minded decision not to draft offensive linemen? Benson had his flaws, but not more than other players in the league, not by a long shot. Of course Benson voiced his disappointment when Angelo planned to draft another back, But would you blame him? Maybe Getting cut has humbled Benson. his numbers as a Bengal makes it look that way, as was a positive critique from T.J. Houshmandzadeh. One thing that was well documented in Carolina, Tennessee and New york (giants) this past season, were good, cooperative relationships between the running backs. They even gave themselves alter egos: Smash 'n Dash, Earth, Wind and Fire, Identity and Theft. So Far, it's been Crash and Burn in the windy city. So would Benson be Forte's running mate, much less even want to come back to Chicago? Would Angelo consider bringing him back considering he's on the open market this season? If it does happen, it would be a shot at redemption. For Benson and for Angelo.

His talent level puts you in mind of Larry Fitzgerald a bit. But if he could match that then we would have a gem if we picked him.
-
Then he might be a great pick up for us.

Rams | Team has little wiggle room under cap Wed, 11 Feb 2009 05:24:57 -0800 Nick Wagoner, of stlouisrams.com, reports the St. Louis Rams have roughly $14 million in cap space. However, the team must budget a little less than half of that open space to the rookie class that must be signed following the NFL Draft, which leaves little wiggle room to re-shape the roster with the cap situation as it stands. Rams | Negotiations with Atogwe expected to intensify soon Wed, 11 Feb 2009 13:11:42 -0800 Nick Wagoner, of StLouisRams.com, reports the St. Louis Rams are believed to begin serious negotiations with impending free-agent FS Oshiomogho Atogwe later this week.

Bears | Showing interest in Heyward-Bey Wed, 11 Feb 2009 15:18:07 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Bears are known to be interested in University of Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey.

IMHO the problem with our WR is that they all want to score TD'S!!!!! The art of catching the ball first is second in their minds. Have you noticed that Fitzgerald/ Steve Smith and others always goes to catch the ball FIRST then makes their moves or whatever. Our WR miss balls thrown right at then in the numbers because they are trying to get yards after the catch instead of making sure they have the ball first. Just look at some of the drops!
-
No they don't, I was replying to BrianBear's comment about we need WR that do. I know that NMurphy would be better than that 5'10 guy from Penn State.

Bears assistant's son is top Cover-2 corner prospect By Vaughn McClure The National Football Post did an interesting breakdown of this year's draft prospects. The player atop the list of Cover-2 corners stands out: Jarius Byrd of Oregon. He is the son of Gill Byrd, the Bears assistant defensive backs coach. The Bears are in the market for a cornerback, and Byrd -- who declared early -- seems to be an ideal fit. Byrd, a three-year starter, had 17 career interceptions, one off the school record. Nathan Vasher might not be in the mix next season and the Bears need another corner alongside Charles Tillman, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. Corey Graham displayed flashes last season but needs to show more before being designated a full-time starter.

Ok Flordia may not produced Jerry Rice or Moss or Ward or Fitz, but you mentioned running grisp routes, did you fail to notice on our team two of the starting WR were converted DB'S and I don't think they ran good crisp routes! But they learned. I will take a 4.3 speed 6'3 WR that can catch over your 5'10 6'0 4.5/4.6 guys any day. You can teach routes, but not height & speed Hell we taught Davis & Hester how to run uuummm shall I say crisp routes.

Titans | Talks with Collins have not progressed Wed, 04 Feb 2009 06:18:49 -0800 Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports contract talks between the Tennessee Titans and QB Kerry Collins, an impending free agent, have been going slow thus far. "There's been nothing substantial,'' Collins said. "There might have been some conversations between my agent and Mike, but nothing to think they are working on anything big." Collins reiterated his feelings from the end of the season. He's not interested in returning to be the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Vince Young after guiding the team to a 13-3 mark this season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cardinals | Warner likely to return Wed, 04 Feb 2009 06:09:23 -0800 Bob McManaman, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner, an impending free agent, is expected to return to the team. Warner will likely sign a new, two-year contract extension, possibly in the neighborhood of $18-$20 million. The deal could get done in the next couple of weeks. Warner said Tuesday, Feb. 3, that he wants to finish his career in Arizona. "That's my mindset. If I'm going to keep playing, I don't want to change teams."
-
IMHO we need a solid deep threat With speed...one can get open so my choice is Heyward -bay from Maryland and or Louis Murphy from Flordia. Both are tall speedters that can catch. This will open the field up with either one of them on one side and Hester on the other. Use them like the Colts in the 3 WR set and 4 WR set with Olsen

Question here is who is going to be second?

Giants | Basanez cancels workout Tue, 03 Feb 2009 14:33:00 -0800 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears QB Brett Basanez cancelled a workout with the New York Giants after deciding to sign a two-year contract with the Bears.

I watched him in the past play at Nortwestern and he was pretty good then. But don't bet the house on him as of right now he is our number #3 QB because Grossman is a FA
