I was thinking this about the two from the Falcons about the time FA began.

He does not have to have the arm or be as quick as Vick, but with his speed he would make the defense have nightmares trying to figure out what to do if he was in the wildcat where he could either pass or run.
-
I don't think he will sign with a loser of a team.
-
Yes you're right Matt is not going to happen with the Bears

By Brad Biggson March 16, 2009 12:21 AM | Permalink | Comments (14) | TrackBacks (0) With John St. Clair visiting the Cleveland Browns today it forces us to pose the question, what's next? If St. Clair signs with the Browns or another team, the already changing Bears' offensive line has another major question to answer--who plays right tackle? General manager Jerry Angelo could draft a tackle in the first round with the 18th pick and plan on plugging him in there from Day 1. He tried that last season and that didn't work so well with Chris Williams, although by all accounts he will be ready to go as the starting left tackle when minicamp opens Tuesday. The Bears could venture into free agency and take a look at what is around. They could do both. What they'll find in the third week of free agency is a long list of players long in the tooth, players with injury baggage or both. Here is an incomplete list of possibilities with the player's last team listed: George Foster, Detroit. He's visited Cincinnati already. The Bears got an up-close look at how vulnerable he was twice a season. Adam Goldberg, St. Louis. Seemed to improve once he left Minnesota. Has visited Cleveland and could return to the Rams. Kwame Harris, Oakland. Offensive tackle might have a good strike ratio when it comes to first-round picks. Here's an example of a first-round miss. Orlando Pace, St. Louis. His Pro Bowls seem obscured by injuries of late, although he was on the field most of last season. He's strictly been a left tackle. Jon Runyan, Philadelphia. A beast in his prime, Runyan might not be healthy. Ephraim Salaam, Houston. Before the Bears signed Fred Miller in 2005, they made a run at Salaam. Kevin Shaffer, Cleveland. Has plenty of experience starting, particularly on the right side. Marvel Smith, Pittsburgh. Back issues are biggest question for one-time Pro Bowl performer. He drew interest in Baltimore and Oakland. Mark Tauscher, Green Bay. Knee surgery might keep him on the shelf until some time in the season. Other options that are not on the market, the open market that is: Jonas Jennings, San Francisco. It's doubtful he returns to the Niners after some injury-wrecked seasons. In fact, he's been informed he isn't in the team's plans. That would indicate Jennings will likely be released. Levi Jones, Cincinnati. The Bengals are actively working to trade Jones. If they can't deal him, they'll probably cut him. Like Pace, he's been a left tackle. Another alternative would be to use Frank Omiyale, the Bears first free-agent signing, at right tackle. He's primarily played tackle in four seasons in the league but Angelo said the Bears want to look at him first at guard. He's expected to compete immediately at left guard with Josh Beekman.

I fully understand about the players being moved to different positions because it happened to me in high school and in college. But enough of me Bowman will be better at FS beacuse he can use his speed to get to the ball and run players down. At FS you don't really have to cover a person but rather a zone most of the time.
-
Sure he is faster than Orton and can be a Vick like threat, but he is just short. If he was 6'4 he would be a 1st RD pick. I can picture him in the wildcat with the Bears.
-
Here's a thought let get him and see if he still can throw the ball deep.....as he used to be a QB.
-
I agree with the eariler post that the Browns aee him as a backup and not a starter. So to me .....and I know he sees this as well that if I want to really play and start then the best place is with the Bears. He is making the visit to the Browns a ploy for the Bears to offer him a little bit more money. A threeyear deal at 4.5 Mil is kinda cheap to me as well when you just gave the new guy more than that.

I do, but I think the biggest problem with the Bears is tradition. We build this team from past glory and not by what we need. Right now we need a passing game with both a QB and WR, but we let Brees go to the Saints, Moss,TO, Holt and all the other good players get away and and take noaction with big time players. I sometime wonder do we even look at trying to get some of these guys.
-
No not everyone. I didn't and I'm glad he signed with the sorry Raiders. There are just too many options out there. We still can go after the RFA tackle from the Falcons Dahl hes good.
-
If we could get Cutler can you see him throwing to his old buddy Bennett? And I know for sure that he can throw the ball to let Hester run under it instread of waiting on it. He would make our passing game better...oh and he can run too.
-
It's not about the city or the team. It's all about who will pay you the most these days. If he goes to thr Browns they will be sick if they pay him alot of money and they still suck....which is what they are going to do anyway. They lost like five starters already to FA

Bowman moving to free safety One of those players is 2008 fifth-round pick Zackary Bowman, who is being moved from cornerback to free safety, a position he played at New Mexico Military Institute before transferring to Nebraska. The 6-1, 193-pounder possesses speed and athleticism, but has struggled to remain healthy. He suffered knee injuries in each of his final two seasons in college and then sustained a season-ending biceps injury while making his NFL debut last Oct. 19 against the Minnesota Vikings. In that game, Bowman scored a touchdown by recovering a muffed punt in the end zone and then later preserved a 48-41 victory by intercepting a Gus Frerotte pass with :40 remaining in the game. A main reason the Bears are moving Bowman is that they have far more depth at cornerback with Tillman, McBride, Corey Graham and Nate Vasher than they do at safety. “We just feel like there’s an opportunity now to see if that’s [bowman’s] best spot to compete,” Smith said. With Payne unable to practice, 2008 fourth-round pick Craig Steltz will line up at strong safety and recent free-agent acquisition Josh Bullocks will work at free safety with the No. 1 defense during minicamp. Steltz will also see action at the free safety position this week in practice. “He has great instincts playing the ball,” Smith said. “Just look at the interception that he had [last season against the Lions]. There’s not a big difference between the two. We want two guys with similar talents to be able to drop down into the box. With Steltz entering his second season, we’re still figuring out exactly where his best spot is.” Bennett in the spotlight At wide receiver, 2008 third-round pick Earl Bennett will be given every opportunity to win a starting job opposite Devin Hester. Bennett played sparingly last year as a rookie and did not catch a pass, though he did show marked improvement in practice over the final six weeks of the season. “We’re going to let Earl have a shot to see exactly what he can do,” Smith said. “He finished strong last year. He works hard. He’s a good player. Now it’s time for us to really see what type of player he is.” Omiyale will work at left guard While free-agent acquisition Frank Omiyale can play multiple positions along the offensive line, Smith said that the 6-4, 310-pounder will work exclusively at left guard in minicamp. “If a guy is versatile, you [move him around] later,” Smith said. “Initially, we want to lock all of our guys into one spot, and we’re going to start Frank off at left guard first and go from there.” While John St. Clair remains unsigned, the Bears still hope to retain the veteran offensive tackle. “John is one of our guys,” Smith said. “It’s been the same message throughout about John. We like John. He had a heck of a year this past year. Once you become one of the guys, we want you around.”

If we keep going the way we are going right now you won't have to worry about drafting a WR in the first round because we will be needing to draft a RT!!

They problem with your Moose numbers is this...they have Steve Smith on the other side of him so teams would try to double Smith and leave they slow Moose open. We had who Berrian who you could cover with one man half the time. Also they throw the ball 26 to 40 times a game as where we throw it 18 to 30 so there is more chances of putting up bigger numbers in Carolina than in Chicago..

All the coaches have to do is look at the 85 Bears when they had the Fridge running as a fullback for Payton. Whan the Giants still had Barber before he retired the lined a OG up at TE to add more blocking. I have noticed that other teams also line up lineman in the backfield as fullbacks and they don't get off the bus running McKie is soft when it comes to blocking and Weaver would be a hammer.

GILL STANDS OUT AT NORTHWESTERN PRO DAY Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 13, 2009, 2:03 p.m. Northwestern defensive tackle John Gill wasn’t invited to the NFL scouting combine, but topped many players’ workout numbers during his Pro Day workout this week. That showing would have ranked him among the top 10 defensive tackles at the combine. Weighing in at 302 pounds, Gill clocked a 4.91 in the 40-yard dash, registered 29 repetitions of 225 pounds in the bench press test and turned in a 31.5-inch vertical leap. His shuttle run was 4.44 seconds and his three-cone drill was 7.1 seconds, which were better than any of the defensive tackle numbers at the Scouting Combine, according to a league source. Gill’s 10-yard split in the 40-yard dash was 1.70 seconds. Gill has already had a private visit with the Chicago Bears, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Like someone said eariler if we are a running team ten you need a guy like Weaver, not a sissy FB like McKie. Having Weaver would do a lot for the game plan of our offense. He can block(better than McKie) so this will open more holes for Forte. He can run and catch making our running game more unpredictable. We could use Weaver like the Ravens use McClain & McGhee

Right now since we have some money I would make it a oint to get Holt since we are not re-signing Lloyd.
-
This guy sucks, but word in the street is that he wants to be the highest paid OT in the game.. PASS

Thanks ConnorBear

Whats annoying is you making comments like that. Hey you don't have to read the things I post. I want to see what others are thinking on the board about making this team better, not just your one sided opinion's.
