Here's the latest offensive breakdown. I wish I had time to do this weekly. Note: When I say a run is R2, that equals right (2 hole or A gap). Play Actual Play Player Comments 1 Pass Swing pass left to Patterson for 8 2 Pass Play action pass to Graham for 24 3 Run middle Arob and Mooney No holes. LB and CB run blitz leaving Mooney and Arob alone. If they come down a chip there would be a huge gain. 1 yard 4 Quick pass rt Pass to Miller 4 yards 5 Pass rt Five yards to Arob. 4th and half a yard 6 Run R4 Nagy Nagy gets cute and calls a fake to Patterson, then handoff to Monty. Takes way too long for the down, distance and defensive alignment. Stupid call. If you are doing play Monty should have lead block with Foles rolling behind him. Turnover downs. 1 Pass rt Play action naked QB option rt to Patterson for 5 2 Run L4 Counter pitch to Patterson. Well blocked. Too many playing the box 2 yards. 3 Pass rt Mooney quick rollout, bunch formation. Mooney takes to long to hit route, messing up the play. 1 Run rt outside Miller motions left, nobody goes with him. Handoff to Monty. Too many people to block. Foles misses chance to audible out of play. Loss 1 2 Run middle Monty Draw to Monty. Perfect call on blitz. Monty inexplicably cuts when he already had a lane and turns potential 15 yards into 5. 3 Pass middle Foles Pass to Miller. Foles step up in pocket. Bad footwork and inaccurate to Miller 1 Run left Foles Play action pass. Foles fails to see Mooney cut to the middle for 15+ 2 Pass Ifedi Ifedi gets beat on the inside. Foles takes forever to set. Throws away 3 Pass Foles Inaccurate to Arob to the right. Foles does not like pressure 1 Pass rt Pass to Graham. Should have had Kmet in for that. 4 yards could've been 8 2 Pass middle Foles Rushes throw to Arob. Better option was Graham who had his guy beat. Nothing 3 pass left Foles Has Mooney open on 6 man blitz, waits too long wanting more. Goes to Mooney off back foot and needs to trust the system. 4 Fake punt Mingo Ist down. Nagy dials up a needed play 5 Run middle Monty Up the middle for 1 yard. Monty misses a gaping hole at R4. Terrible vision 6 Toss left Patterson for 7. good job Leno 7 Run middle Nagy Terrible call. Handoff timing doesn’t match the OL push. Play would work with Foles under center. Too much time from the gun. 1 Pass rt Nice clear out play to Graham for 13. Again, this should be dialed up for Kmet who is more athletic. 2 sack Foles Foles hits his plant foot and fails to throw to Mooney over the middle. Then Coward gets beat for the sack. Kmet also got turned around in pass pro. I don't what Foles saw. 3 Run Hambright delay handoff to Monty. Loss 2. The rookie gets thrown off his block. That was a missed opportunity 4 Pass rt Monty Delay slant to Patterson. WR's make nice wall to the left. Monty misses his seal block and defender is able to turn the play in. Missed opportunity for a big play 1 penalty Leno false start 2 Penalty Coward Hands to face. 1st and 25 3 pass left Mooney for 7 4 pass left Foles Monty for 6. Foles doesn't see Mooney wide open to the left 5 pass left Incomplete. Halftime 1 Run rt outside Foles Foles drops snap. Patterson loses 3 2 Pass deep left Miller for 34. Perfect throw 3 Pass deep right Coward Ball way underthrown. Looks to be tipped. Coward fails to see delayed blitz 4 run L4 Hambright Monty for 3. Hambright literally falls down while whiffing on double team with Bars. Play should've went for 10 5 pass middle Foles Foles fails to step in pocket. Scrambles left and throws right to patterson for 6 yards. If he steps up, he Patterson isolated as the release for a first down. Note next play 6 penalty Hambright false start 7 penalty Graham false start 1 pass rt 5 yards to Mooney on rollout 2 pass rt 7 yards to Arob on quick out 3 pass deep right Play action to Mooney for 22 yards. Smart throw by Foles 4 run L2 Monty for 3. Sometimes I wonder about Monty cutting too often instead just going. 5 sack Graham, Coward Graham and Coward both whiffed on their blocks. Titans sent 5 plus 2 on delay. Foles fails to recognize. 6 pass deep rt Nice pass to Ridley for 18. Foles moved in pocket 7 sack and grounding Foles, Monty Terrible execution between Foles and Monty to sell the fake for the bootleg. OLB blows up the play 8 penalty offsides defense 9 pass short rt bubble screen to Graham for 3 10 pass short rt Monty Monty fumbles for defensive TD. Monty jukes for no damn reason. 1 Run middle 4yds 2 pass deep rt Great throw and catch for 23. Arob 3 pass left Arob for 4 4 Run rt outside Patterson for 5 5 pass batted down 6 Run L4 Monty for 4 7 Run L4 Monty for 5 8 pass deep rt Missed Mooney in the endzone 9 pass rt Miller for 5 10 pass rt Ridley for 6 11 pass rt Mooney for 6 12 run Coward Fake pitch to Patterson. Arob gets blown up a can't follow with Jet sweep or shuttle pass. Coward is 3 yards deep, idoit. 13 Run L6 Monty Monty is developing a really bad habit of stopping and juking as soon as he gets the ball 14 Pass Tipped at LOS 15 FG 1 pass left 5 for Arob 2 pass deep left Arob for 27 yards 3 pass middle Monty for 13 4 pass rt Mooney for 1 5 run L2 Monty for 4 6 pass left Hambright Hambright gets used a turnstile, Foles has no chance 7 pass middle Miller for 12 8 pass middle deflected high 9 pass rt TD Nall 1 Pass middle Miller 6 yards to Miller. Fumble 1 pass middle Nall for 11 2 pass rt loss of one. Roughing the passer 3 pass left Graham for 3 4 pass left Foles Throw away. Nall wide open underneath 5 pass middle defenseless receiver penalty. Bad call 6 pass deep left Mooney catches out of bounds 7 pass left Nall for 12 8 pass left Arob for 11 9 Pass middle TD for Graham To summarize: The two fumbles killed us. We dominated almost every offensive statistic. Foles had an up and down game. It seems like he goes through half of each game not as engaged as he should be. Hambright and Coward had 4 mistakes apeice to lead the OL. That's too many plays ruined by two players. Montgomery needs to get his head out of his ass. He had 6 mistakes. Hopefully the beating he is taking isn't affecting his psyche. Foles led the way with 11 mistakes, mostly due to pressure. Foles is not off the hook with me because he left several first downs on the field when we needed them. Since big dick Nick had his cocky press conference, we are 0-3 and he has left a lot to be desired. Foles 2-4 and needs to be more consistent. Overall, I was happy with Nagy and the OL despite all the heat they have been taking. The WR corps shined. I definitely want to see more Kmet and Nall And of course the D did enough.

It's all about the math and attitude. There is not a 2nd or 3rd rounds player out there that doesn't think they should've been a first rounder. They come in pissed off and hungry at a third of the price. And you get more of them...
-
With the Jets likely winning the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes, they will likely try to get some value for Darnold. This is just me, but Darnold is better than what we have. So what say you? What would we be required to give up? I would love to load up on OL and have an NFL ready QB out of the draft.

I'm going to get straight to it. This team lacks discipline. It is a direct sign that the head coach needs to simplify things 1) The Chicago Bears lead the league in penalties and yards of penalties. Smart teams that know they need every break they can get buckle down on these mental lapses. It shows that it's not being drilled in. 2) Can not run the football. The easiest thing to do in all of sports is running the football. You line up against the other team and impose your will as a unit. Our OL continues to blow assignments, lack effort and generally suck. Running the football is about effort and desire. Sometimes yes, mostly no. All about discipline. 3) Defensive line losing gap control. If it was all about our nose tackle opting out, the season was over before it started. I don't believe so. Every game, I replay our DL out of gap and with shoulders turned. That's effort and execution. That takes discipline to do the same thing over and over. These guys want to make a play. That's not their role in the run game! Stay in your gap and make the RB move. 4) Quarterback gets too greedy, too often. If they blitz, there is a hot read. Foles is always wanting to make a play. He needs to be patient and get the first down. This helps everyone, especially the defense. 5) Javon Wims. How in the hell did he think he could plot to get revenge for quarter, do what he did and think he could keep his job? Lack of discipline! Nagy needs to man up and take control of his team. He's earned their admiration and trust, now he has to command their respect. He has half a season to save his job. He may have much less to save this team.

100% Let me add to the offensive woes. Due to having the worst OL in the league again, Nagy cannot implement an offense, period. (Hiestand and Castillo are regarded as the best and they can't make it work) There is no "OL sucks" offense. It simply shrinks the field in way that nothing regularly works, especially the run game. It cuts your ability to go deep, your ability to run complex routes and less is open underneath. Now we go to chicken and egg. Did Nagy tell Pace "get me weapons or get me OL"? Or did Pace neglect? End of day, shit rolls downhill. Pace must go. If Nagy was complicit, he must go as well. Someone in the org knows the truth.

I'm not on the "fire Nagy" bandwagon. I'm definitely in for an intervention. Ryan Pace. Put your foot down and limit your HC. He his clearly out of his depth with double duty. The team plays hard for Nagy and the D had not given up. Matt Nagy. Put your foot down and demand better effort from your offense. Too many times I sit and watch Montgomery continue to fight while his OL just stand there. That is not OL mentality. Too many times again, I see your receivers slacking on routes that might not include them. Being a decoy is important. Also, talk your DC into making Drew Brees throw it over the top our your defense. Show some balls. Nagy and Pace - suspend Javon Wims for his actions. I love a good fight, but that was beyond ugly and had no place in sport. I think there are times when Foles needs to sit for a series or two to clear his head. I'm not against Trubisky coming in for a few minutes. Lastly, Alex Bars must be injured. Now way Coward is better than anyone with a pulse. Worst offensive lineman I has ever witnessed.

I don't the Larussa story. Why is he a dick?

Forgot Mack

This may be an unpopular thing to state, here goes. I am perfectly willing to waste this defense for the next two years to use our draft capital on 4 offensive lineman drafted within the first 3 rounds and two defensive lineman within that same period. The last time we had a homegrown dominant OL and DL we won a Superbowl. I'm tired of piecemeal and patchwork. I want it to all start up front again. Once that happens, your QB will emerge.
-
My problem with Pace is that he's an emotional drafter. Nobody can tell me that Trubisky was rated so my much higher than Watson and machines that he needed to give up what he did. The thing is, he loved Mitch and had to have him at all cost. He loved Shaheen, Monty, Cohen, Floyd and Miller the same way. Too many draft picks lost because he was invested in these guys. As a GM, you have to treat it like inventory. No more trading picks, as we are going to suffer the next few years.

Do we get something for Floyd and Kwit?
-
That's an easy one. Established offensive genius HC Better play calling Better OL Virtually every skill player faster than ours at respective positions.
-
That's 9 first downs and drives extended. (Just on PI alone.) TOP is a huge key when you have a dominant defense. Some of the calls on Hicks have been complete BS, but he didn't have to push the limit either. Time to clean it up.

Thank you. Let's put this in perspective. John Shoop ran a more productive offense. I think it starts with Nagy becoming more disciplined, even if it gets him out of play calling. Kmet must start. Coward can not ever play again. Play action more. Rollout more. Quick pitch the ball to get Monty outside 4 times a game. Two TE sets all game. If you are going to average 3 YPC, make the defense pay the price by beating the shit out of them. Rant over...
-
If Foles has another stinker, I'm pulling him. They can be more effective designing runs and rollouts for Trubisky that will at least give the defense something else to think about. Foles needs an OL more than Mitch does. In all actuality, I though Foles was moderately mobile, so why not roll him out a little? Nagy needs to do something, even if it is giving up play calling.
-
While Foles can read a defense, Trubisky can run and the defense has to account for that. ?. The big story is that Foles threw Nagy and the OL under the bus according to the story Brian Griese told.

I had nothing better to do today, so I took the time to do a breakdown of every offensive snap. While we tend to look at things like time to throw, running lanes and play calling, I tried to focus on why. What I found was 44 mistakes that could stand to be cleaned up. There are always going to be mistakes that lead to failed execution, but 44 is way too many when you run 61 offensive plays. Here's the tally for miscues. QB=14, HC=2, TE=6, RB=4 and OL=18 Going try to copy my play by play sheet, but it may be ugly. Play # Actual Play Comments Play 1 Run off LT Adequate block on edge Play 2 Run middle No push, no run lane Play 3 Pass left 1st down Play 4 Pass right 8 yds Play 5 Run middle 2R 1st down negated by Ifedi Play 5x2 Pass middle Incomplete Play 6 Pass middle 7 yards - 4th down Play 7 Run off LT 3 yards, simply too many people in box Play 8 Pass middle Harris can't catch a cold. Needs cut at seasons end Play 9 Pass short left 2 yds, 4th down Play 10 Pass deep left Kmet great catch on underthrown ball Play 11 Pass left 7 yds to Kmet on bootleg Play 12 Run middle 2R Whitehair and Coward fail to move NT. Ifedi falsely gets blame from announcers. Leno slacks on his block to let the DE assist. Play 13 Run middle 2L Great blocks by Leno and Coward to collapse, good seal from Kmet. 1st down Play 14 Jet sweep rt Kmet gets blown up and Montgomery fails to assist. 2yds Play 15 Run off RT Idiot Harris runs a route from the H instead of blocking Floyd. 3 yds. Should have been 10 End of 1st Massie and Ifedi look good. Mistakes by Kmet, Harris 2, Whitehair, Coward, Leno and Montgomery Play 16 Pass middle Rams send 5. Coward and Massie whiff, Whitehair doubles instead of picking up LB. Short gain 4th down. Foles fails to see Miller wide open deep middle. Play 17 FG Good Play 18 Run middle zone 1 yd. Leno and Massie both let DE's get inside. Negates fantastic individual blocks by Coward and Whitehair. Should gone for 8 Play 19 Pass deep middle Moonie beats his man. Foles throws to wrong shoulder to miss a huge gain. Potential TD if he leads him left. Max protect Play 20 Pass right 9yds, refs give us spot. Challenge. Lose Play 21 QB sneak Foles gets it, imo. Coward false start. Punt Play 22 Pass rt good catch. 11 yds Play 23 Pass short left 6 yds Graham Play 24 Pass short right 18yds. Great play action Play 25 Sack Foles moves up, fails to see streaking reciever on left. Coward can't pass block Play 26 Run middle 2R Ifedi run blocks well. 4yds. OL needs to play to the whistle. Play 27 Sack Leonard Floyd makes Massie whiff. Punt End of half Nagy doesn't try for a punt block? Mistakes by Massie 3, Coward 3, Foles 2, Leno Play 28 Run inside 4R Harris holds. Massie falls down. Holtz lead blocks and slows before contact. 1yd Play 29 Run inside 4R Holtz lead blocks and makes it through. Montgomery should be on his ass but shuffles and gets tripped 3 yards Play 30 Pass deep left Rams overload Leno and Coward. Foles fails to hit hot read Robinson for a wide open first down. Chucks it to Mooney instead and misses. Play 31 Pass left Nice quick hit to Harris 9 yards Play 32 Run middle L2 Nice interior push 4yds Play 33 Pass middle Hot read Graham for 15 yds Play 34 Run middle L4 Nothing there. Monty jump cuts out for 12 yards. Play 35 Pass deep right Massie gets beat, Foles chucks and gets a big PI call Play 36 Pass right Harris for 7. Nice play action Play 37 Pass left Foles throws jump ball to Mooney in endzone. INT Nagy took Graham out for that. Terrible call and throw Play 38 Toss sweep RT Graham gets blown two yards back by Floyd and disrupts Massies pull. Massie fails to recognize a chip oppportunity and Floyd forces runner out. 3 yard gain, should had over 10. Play 39 Screen RT runs in front of the play while not hitting anyone. If coward hits one of the two he watched, this would have been a good play. No gain Play 40 Pass middle Rams send 6. Foles innnaccurate to the hot read Miller. Miller makes great catch for 7. Good blocking Play 41 Run left Leno does good job, but Coward fails to help Wims with a 265# DE, runs past him and blocks nobody. Same DE blows up play. See pic Play 42 Pass deep Hits Robinson with a dime. 42 yards Play 43 Pass short left Montgomery stupidly stays inbounds for a 3 yard gain Play 44 Run middle L4 6 yard gain Play 45 Run middle Nice counter play for the first and goal Play 46 Pass short rt 3yds to Graham. Kmet probably would have gotten 5 with younger legs Play 47 Run left Leno is lazy and doesn't finish his down block. Monty is jump cutting before the ball is secure, then spins to the LOS. Should have been a gain. Play 48 Pass right Foles rolls rt and throws to pylon and misses his spot by 2 feet. Incomplete. Also Robinson was more open at back pylon. Play 49 Sack Foles fails to hit Jimmy at the goalline. You have to trust the big guy. Floyd abused Massie again. Where is KMET Play 50 Throw away Foles fails to see Robinson at 8 yards, then rolls and throws away. Robinson has a few yards left after the catch Play 51 Pass deep middle Massie gets owned by Floyd again. Foles fails to step into his throw. After watching several times, that big miss to Miller is on Foles. He wasn't pressured that badly yet. He arced it 3 feet over Floyd. Play 52 Pass short left Foles hit Monty on hot read. Throws to wrong shoulder for short gain. Foles had a man in his face. Play 53 Pass short middle Quick pass for first down to Robinson Play 54 Pass short right Montgomery stupidly stays inbounds for a 5 yard gain Play 55 Pass deep right Foles pressured fails to see wide open Robinson for first down and stop clock. Instead flings one to Jimmy in double coverage Play 56 Pass short rt 8 yards to Jimmy Play 57 Pass deep middle Hits Mooney for 18 Play 58 Throw away Floyd abuses Leno Play 59 Pass short middle Monty for 10 yd Play 60 Pass deep middle Foles need to throw more towards the sideline to avoid the FS Play 61 Pass short left Graham for nothing Play 62 Sack Floyd abuses Leno Play 63 Pass deep left Wims wide open, Foles misses badly Throughout the game Whitehair and Ifedi held their own with only 1 mistake apiece. Coward was horrendous with 6 really bad ones that cost a few first downs and time of possession. Leno and Massie were next with 5 apiece. Neither had an answer for the great Leonard Floyd. Leno is just lazy and Massie is clumsy. Then there was Foles with 14 mistakes, whether it was innacuracy, missing hot reads or rushing his throws, he was simply terrible. I'm going to cut him some slack for this one, but not the next. Montgomery had 4 mistakes 2 of them cost yards and two cost valuable time. Our TE's were led by Harris who simply needs to be benched in favor of Kmet. Nagy, not using Kmet or Graham with goal to go was inexcusable and why he didn't call a timeout before the half was a major headscratcher. Try to block the damn punt! Fight for your team to make a play. Ted Ginn should have been cut during the game yesterday. I swear he must be banging Pace's wife or something. He doesn't even try to field punts. On one punt there was 15 yards from himself and the nearest defender. He could have made a decent return with that, only to leave pinned inside the ten yard line again. In summary, no more Ginn, Harris and Coward. They simply offer no help to what we are trying to accomplish. The young center looked good!
