Apples and oranges. The laws are not the same in every city, much less every state. NY is a city which had really bad crime issues, and thus they strengthened the gun laws to a near extreme level in order to combat that crime. In many states, if not most, getting caught w/ an unliscences firearm is not likely to get more than a slap on the wrist, but that is simply not the case in NY. Stallworth is simply a totally different situation, and I honestly question how much of the story many even realize. The guy had a BAC over the limit, yes. But is it realized he had already been home and went out for breakfast. He simply had not gone long enough for the alcohol to wear off. That is not an excuse, but just a point I don't think many realize. Further, if not for the alcohol level, it is VERY likely he would not have been considered at fault for the accident, as the pedestrian ran into the street, not at a crosswalk or even with traffic at a stop for a light. He obviously never even looked. And he ran from a spot that was basically blind to oncoming traffic due to parked vehicles. But Stallwork had alcohol in his system, and thus he is on the hook. I get that, but (a) I just do not think most who make such a comparison realize the full story w/ Stallworth and ( the laws in each state are simply very different.

I knew he would not get off scott free. I knew he would have to serve jail time. What is surprising to me is that he agreed to a 2 year sentence. What an idiot. All reports said that at one point, he was offered as little as a 3 month sentence, and if he accepted that deal, he would already be out of jail. Instead, he is only now about to begin a MUCH longer sentence, and while he hopes for different, in all liklihood his NFL career is over. Anyone still upset we didn't sign him?

I had not heard anything about his training, but I have read that he is a bit of a diva, which isn't shocking as he is a WR. More specifically, I have read that he is often isolated in the locker room and keeps to himself. He is not the sort that takes a young WR under his wing to help him out. I am not saying he has to be that, but w/ a slew of young WRs, that is often what you hear mentioned when talking about adding a player like him, but really isn't the case. For me though, it comes down to a couple things. One. He is no longer an elite WR, which is fine, but still considers himself one. The previous reports held that he was looking to be paid a ton of money, as if he were still a #1. Even when every team that showed any level of interest quickly bowed out after his salary demand, he did not reduce his price. He basically said he would rather retire than accept less money. Hey, he is rich enough to make such a decision. If money is all he cares about at this point, then I just do not think he is the right receiver for us. Two. I think his off-field legal issues have to be a concern. He is not on tier w/ Marhsall, but at the same time, his legal issues are current and on-going. That is simply not a good thing in the NFL today. Initially, I loved the idea of adding Harrison, but the more I read about Harrison, the more I realized it simply was not a great idea.

The more I read, the more I actually like that Minny signed him. I love the laughable image throwing its way at Minny, and the slap to the face of GB. Beyond that though, I actually think Favre will, in the end, hurt Minny. One thing I didn't realize was the arm issue for Farve, or at least the extent of it. ESPN radio was talking about this last night. Said he has a tear in his labrum, throwing arm. Pointed to last season. He started out looking good, but as the season wore on, his arm strength went down hill as the tear became more and more of an issue. The guys last night were saying more of the same is very likely for him. He will start out the season w/ arm strength, but at the same time, will be new to the system and players, and thus efficiency may not be there. But by the time he might form some chemisty w/ the team, his arm strength will have started going downhill, and he simply will not be an effective QB. To me, Favre is like a fastball pitcher who dominates for a long time throwing 100mph fastballs past hitters. As his ages, his fastball begins to lose effectiveness. Some pitchers will then learn other pitches, and not rely so much on the heat, as it is no longer so hot. Those who continue to try and blow past hitters w/ the fastball that is no longer topping the guns in the high 90s see their ERA soar. I see Favre as the 2nd type. His arm strength is not what it was, and gets worse as the season goes on, yet he still believes he can thread the needle, into tight coverage, downfield. This mentality combined w/ a weaker arm simply doesn't get it done, and thus why he has not been as effective of a QB. Favre may well look good early on, but I think as the season goes on, like last year w/ NYJ, his arm will deteriorate, as will his effectiveness, as will the offense. When the team needs him most is when he will simply not be capable of stepping up his play, and I will love it.
-
No clue about his arm, but I really don't think his presence will have a negative effect on the team. From everything I have read, it seems like most of the players really wanted him, and quite a few of the veterans/leaders were even calling him trying to get him to sign. Jackson and Rosenfels may not be thrilled, but I don't think either have a big "camp" on their side, thus I don't think Farve creates a rift on the team. Two things I think could be interesting. One. Wasn't it Favre who was known as a crappy indoor QB, for whatever reason. I don't have the stats, but I thought Farve was always weakest playing indoors. If that is true, it will be interesting to see how he does now that he will play so many games in doors. Two. Farve style would seem to contradict what Minny is otherwise set up to do. Farve is not a QB who can be conservative. W/ the OL and RB set up Minny has, they are really built to run the ball. Turning the ball over is never a good thing, for any offense, but a running team is hurt far worse than a passing team by turnovers. If Farve start turning the ball over, which you know he will, will that force Minny out of their element, and if so, would that not get away from what Minny does best? Farve is better than what they had, and thus this has to be viewed as an upgrade. At the same time, I really question whether a QB like Farve is right for that team, and whether he will in the end really help them that much. I would much rather face a big helping of Farve at this point than AP and Minny's ground attack.

Screw MJD. I read the same damn hype about him last year, and he crapped out for me.

While I am not saying no to Matt Jones, I would like to address this. No question he was forcing the ball to Hester, but maybe that was for a reason. Maybe that was planned or scripted. Frankly, it ticks me off, but that is what we have seen over the years under Lovie in preseason games. Other teams gameplan to play us, even in the 1st preseason game, but we do not. We have plays and players, and we run our sets to get a look at how things work, but we do not consider who we are playing, or often not even down and distance. It is very scripted because we simply want to see how things will play out. I am not saying I know for a fact that is what happened, but it has been pointed out by many how we had open receivers, but Cutler was forcing the ball downfield to Hester. Maybe that is just Cutler. Maybe it was Cutler trying to get a feel for Hester, his #1 WR. Maybe it was Turner and our staff telling him to force the ball to Hester to see how things work on a particular play. Point is, I am not sure we can really make many judgments based on the 1st preseason game, especially as we were facing a team playing their 2nd.

One, w/ regard to Phily, unless they solve their OL issues, I am not sure how much they will even be in the running, especially as they are in a tough division. They added several players to the OL, but last I saw, I think 3 of their starters on the OL are hurt, and several have history of injuries. They have talent, but w/o protection up front, I think they could really struggle. Two, Everyone makes a big deal about the wildcat. Yea, it worked some last year, but it was also new. This happens all the time. Someone brings to the table something new, and it works. But before long, teams figure it out. Hell, I remember Crowton's razzle dazzle offense, and how well it worked for a short period of time, but then adjustments were made, and the system was blown up. IMHO, we are going to see less and less wildcat. Defensive coaches have had time now to "figure it out" and it is simply not going to be nearly as successful. Further, how well do you all think it will play out for Phily to bench McNabb, even if only for a few plays a game, to run a different scheme. McNabb is not really a guy who likes to sit.

I still have some disagreement, and I'll explain why. You mention Marshall, Graham and Bowman. I would point out those are late round flyers as much as anything (no pun intended). You often take greater raw talent later in the draft, while earlier on you more often seek out system fits. Tillman and Vasher were both drafted at a higher level, and neither were ever accused of being speed burners. Ditto that for Moore who we drafted this year. You then mention two speed guys drafted earlier in Hester and DM. Hester was initially considered a DB, but lets not pretend for one moment he was drafted for anything but his return skills. Our return game stunk, and he was viewed as being electric. His potential at DB was an after-though. As for DM, he was drafted to be our FS, which is a totally different thing from our CB discussion. I would also argue DM seems to be the exception more than the rule as to what sort of player we have drafted or added to play S. Steltz, Afalava, Payne, Harris, Todd Johnson, Gray. DM is the only non-SS we have drafted to play FS. I am not saying slow footed guys fit our system. I am simply arguing pure speed is not as necessary in our system, or any that utilizes a lot of zone, as it is in a defense that most often uses man. Man coverage is where you truly need speed as you more often are left on an island. I do agree w/ your earlier point about closing speed being bigger than pure speed. When you say closing speed, that basically equates to quickness for me. I think key DB attributes for our scheme are: quickenss - Need the ability to make quick breaks on the ball. hands - IMHO, if we had a CB who was a near shut down guy, but w/ stone hands, I don't think Lovie would like him. Turnovers is key in our scheme, and in Lovie's mind, and your CBs need to be able to catch the ball nearly as well as your WRs. Smarts - IMHO, this is an area we have not stressed enough, but is key. You need your CB to be able to read the play, and quickly react. Mike Brown is the epitomy of this attribute. DM is at the other end. Tackling - Our CBs are big in run support, and are expected to make sure tackles against RBs in support and WRs, as preventing the big play is always key. Tillman, before the shoulder injury, was considered a very sound tackling CB. Vasher was always a bit iffy. Graham looks awesome in this regard last year, and IMHO, that may have been a key reason why the staff began to look at him as a S.

I disagree w/ your thinking quite a bit. How do you envision AP contributing? The only way he makes the field on offense is if we have an injury, and frankly, it may even require multiple as our #2 RB has starting capability. We also have Wolfe, who according to that depth chart, has moved ahead of AP. Wolfe is a player the staff has talked about getting more involved in the offense, as he brings something different to the table. AP doesn't. AP's only value to the offense is depth, and frankly, deep depth at that. He used to have big value as a special teams performer, but last year, I thought his play had declined to the point he was a liability on teams. You don't think there is value in a 6th WR? I would argue this on several points. One. At Wr, we have a lot of youth we are trying to develop, including 2 rookies. You need more roster spaces when you are developing players, as opposed to a position (like RB) where you are set. Two. You play a lot more WRs at any given time. You start two, but could have 3 and even 4 WR sets. Three. I would also argue that at WR, when talking about depth, we are looking at players who bring something different to the table. In Rideau and Arom, you get added size. In Knox. You have speed. In Iglesias, you have precise route running and hands. What does AP bring to the table different from any other? Four. Maybe this goes back to the 1st point, but what future does AP have? What future might a 6th WR have. So far in camp, Arom (who would likely be that 6th WR) sure seems to be showing the potential for a greater future than AP. Then there is the issue of a 4th TE, while you question even the value of 3. One. As we use more and more 2 TE sets, I think the need for depth there is greater. Two. While we are most likely to keep McKie, a FB, we look at our 3rd TE as the backup FB. So a TE like Gaines may not be our starting FB, but he would be our depth. Three. More than Gaines, IMHO, it comes down to Davis v AP. I'll take Davis w/o question. At TE, Clark is solid, but you have to ask how much longer he will be w/ the team. Davis, not Gaines, would be viewed as his successor. At RB, we have a 2nd year RB in Forte, his backup is still relatively young, and Wolfe too is young. There is not much need to consider successors at RB, but there is more so at TE. Finally, I would use the "what do they bring to the table that is different" argument. I have already made the point that AP bring nothing different to the table. Davis brings a 6'7 frame w/ fairly impressive receiving capabilities. I have read numerous times of Davis making spectacular catches, particularly in the endzone, in camp. I flat out love the idea of Davis being a red zone threat, paired w/ Olsen. At the end of the day, I believe our 6th WR and 4th TE would have a role in the offense this year, while AP would not. Further, beyond this year, I think our 6th WR and 4th TE have a potential future, while again, AP does not. To me, AP is like R.Davis. They became fan favorites at a time when we had trash at the position, but as we add talent, their value really deteriorates.
-
I thought about that too, but at the same time, I do read about other receivers making plays out of the slot. I think it is one of two things. (a) It is possible the staff is not trying to focus on Davis believing they know what they have in him, while at the same time trying to see the other young WRs as much as possible, as they do not know about them. It would not be the first time this has happened. ( It may be as simple as others are stepping up and Davis is not. Davis did decent at one point when he played out of the slot, but lets be honest for a moment. He had 22 and 17 catches his two seasons playing in the slot. He made some nice plays, but I think many bear fans have made him out to be more than he was. He was never that good, but as our WR group was so bad, his couple plays stood out. Well, it appears we have upgraded our talent, and now, he may simply not be standing out due to that. There may be an element here of Cutler using his position to factor in who makes the roster and who does not. Maybe. IMHO, it is more simply about more talented WRs making plays while Davis is not.
-
Agreed. He's a horrible WCO QB. However, if he's brought in for special packages as a Wildcat QB, then it's a GREAT fit. Not only would it force defenses to scheme for two systems when playing the Bears, but the potential he has in that system is plain scary. Not to mention the fact that if Cutler were to go down (shudder), the Bears are screwed anyway. At least Vick would be a better choice than the current backups. I had this discussion w/ a friend of mine. IMHO, our offense is set up right now in such a way that they could be a damn good offense, w/o having to use gadget plays. This is new for bear fans. We are used to needing trick plays and gadget schemes in order to move the ball or score, but I think that is different now. IMHO, we have an offense that is good enough to score w/o having to need such trickery. Its one thing to have a team like Miami use the wildcat. They were not a good enough offense to get it done w/o such. But how often do you think NE, Indy or other good offenses use such. Also, we have a lot of new faces and new starting player. There is a lot to teach and learn on the plate now, w/o having to learn a very different scheme as well. I would much rather we simply focus on our playbook and master that, rather than try and add something like the wildcat to the mix. In the end, I just believe we have the potential to be a very good offense w/o having to create plays for a player like Vick. Completely agreed. This is the major problem, and the reason why teams are hesitant to sign Vick. Agreed. I don't necessarily agree with their policies, but it's impossible for the Bears to sign Vick and not have that move come off as contradictory to the Benson and Tank situations. If Vick didn't have the history, I "might" consider it. But when I factor his history, I just do not believe his potential contribution comes close to equaling the negative he would bring.

I have no issue w/ Davis, and have argued the same point you made before. Davis is a nice depth chart WR who was asked to do too much. Think Mark Anderson. As a pass rush specialist, the guy challenged for ROY honors. Inserted into a starting position, and he flopped big time. Doesn't mean you give up on the player, but simply put him back where he did well. Now, I have made that argument in the past, but right now, I am not so sure. Despite your wanting to red shirt or practice squad Knox, it isn't going to happen. He was a high 5th round pick this year, and frankly, has looked good in camp. On the ESPN twitter, there have been several comments about him simply blowing past our secondary to make a long completion. If you listen to the staff, they have several specific roles designed for him, and have even talked about him in special teams. Iglesias is not going anywhere either. W/ Bennett and Hester, that's 4. I think it safe to safe Rideau is making the team. The guy has been our most impressive receiver in camp, and has moved up to #3 in the pecking order. Sure, that could change if he bombs in the preseason games, but right now, he is looking pretty safe. That's 5. Some debate the point, but I think we keep 6 WRs this year. But here's the thing. Now we have this kid, Aromyourmama blowing it up. His play has been such that it feels like all we hear about is his making plays. Cutler seems to be his biggest fan, and that is going to mean a lot. What have you heard about Davis from camp. I read the twitter and blogs everyday, and the only twitter comment I can recall about Davis was to say he really hasn't been part of any plays. I don't know the reason. Not getting open? Not getting the repts. Cutler simply prefering others? I don't know. But if Davis is not doing anything impressive in camp, while at the same time those he is competing for a spot w/ are playing great, I have to question keeping him, experience or not.

When did Jamar Williams become a SLB? Why didn't we try him out when Roach & Hunter were competing to see who was worse last year. Speaking of this, are we going to pay Hunter over a million to play ST's and be a back-up? I am guessing, but my guess is he looked so good during OTAs that our staff is trying to find a way to get him on the field. I am not sure even our staff believes he can play SLB, but are giving it a try due to how he has looked in general. We can argue this should have been done in the past, but frankly, I have never before heard the rave reviews I have this offseason about him. Mully on the SCORE says McBride looks terrible. I'm confused as you about Graham. That seems to be supported by the ESPN guys who are doing the twitter and blogs and such. Quite often comments are made about this receiver or that receiver making a play, and doing so against McBride. W/ regard to Graham, my only guess is the staff feels very confident Tillman and Bowman will return, and they want to keep Graham at nickel and develop him there. That is my guess of their thinking, but I think their thinking is whacked. So Steltz went from competing for SS, to nickel-back FS, to 3rd string? That's ALL happened in the last 2 weeks. And he hasn't been hurt. Can we just load all these guys up in the freaking clown-car? Steltz will stick because someone will be injured. Steltz may ultimately make the roster, but it won't be due to him performance. Wasn't that what Airese Currie was supposed to be for? Like Knox, he was fast as hell. I see him getting the red-shit. Big difference between Knox and Currie. Currie was a track star who was still very raw as a WR. Knox is a developed WR, but the key question for him coming out of school was level of competition. But that doesn't compare to a guy who is learning how to be a WR. Yes, the idea of what the team wanted w/ Currie carries over to Knox, but the key difference is Currie was far behind the learning curve at WR, where as Knox is not. I don't see how you'd justify keeping Knox or Kellen Davis over AP. Chances are, Knox or Davis would make it back to our practice squad. For at least a week or two. If Knox hits our practice squad, I predict we lose him. Its one thing if you want to talk about Kinder to the PS, but Knox was the 4th pick of the 5th round. He is a player who had some questions, but frankly, seems to have answered many of those same questions in OTAs and camp. He has looked good and has blazing speed. It would be a huge mistake to put him on the PS, as I will simply bet you another team would come in and steal him. As for Davis, is he eligible? Back to the original issue though, I simply do not feel AP has much value anymore. At one time, I could at least say he was a special teams leader, but frankly his play in that area has gone down, and last year, I thought he was a liability on special teams. I think the addition of K.Jones essentially replaces him, and would rather keep Wolfe than AP, as Wolfe at least brings something different to the table. AP is a great guy, and I wish him the best, but when I look at our roster, I do not see what value he brings to the table. I do see what Knox and Davis can bring though. We've said that Gaines can play FB. I look for him to replace McKie, and we keep 4 TE's. For the record, I would love this, but I think our losing McKie is a fan thing and not a staff thing. IMHO, our staff very much likes McKie and believes he is a solid player. I strongly disagree, but that is how I see the staff viewing the situation. I think we are looking at TEs capability to block in the backfield in order to consider them as depth, as we only keep one FB. Here is the numbers problem. We have a slew of young WRs, many of which are looking very good. At this point, it is hard to imagine not keeping 6. We have a group of TEs, also looking good, and this is going to be a more featured position on our offense, and thus it is hard to think we don't keep 4. But to keep 6 WRs and 4 TEs, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. I can not see us cutting McKie, as much as I would be in favor of that. I can not see us going w/ too little depth on the OL, as you always are hit w/ injuries there and depth is too important. That leaves RB and QB. I have argued in favor of going w/ only 2 QBs, as I think we can pick someone up midseason (if there is need) who wouldn't be worse than Basanez, but I don't see the team doing it. That leaves RB. Keeping 3 RBs is pretty normal, but we are looking at 4. That was understandable last year when KJ was not 100%, but he is this year, and having a great camp. W/ Forte and KJ, AP will likely never see the field on offense. Wolfe is a player who Turner is talking about working into the offense, but AP is strickly a special teams guy. I would rather keep a 6th WR or 4th TE, who I believe can factor in the offense, than a 4th RB who will only get off the bench for special teams.
-
I do not know for a fact, but I don't think it matters how long you are on a practice squad. I believe the key to no longer being eligible for the practice squad is a certain amount of time you are on a NFL active roster. Rideau has been around as long, but (a) had a great camp last year and is really breaking out in camp this year and ( plays at a position we have considerable need, as opposed to Mines who was stuck at a positition we have depth. Mine would have been our 5th TE, and it is debatable whether or not we keep 4.

Well, I can vouch for the friend who I received the email from, and he is vouching for the other. At the end of the day, someone heard this from a radio program. It really isn't different from one of the posters on this board saying they heard a radio report..... Many of us live in different cities, w/ access to many different media outlets. I am not going to dismiss something too quick. Especially as a seperate source (origin of this thread) talks about a similar issue.

For the record, this would make me absolutely sick. One. Everyone has their own set of opinions and values, but in my house, what Vick did is about as disgusting as anything I have heard from a NFL player. Key phrase by the way was "about as". Many player do bad things, but most often, they are not so premeditated. The manner in which Vick was killing the dogs simply goes beyong rationale for me. On this point, many can argue, but it will be to no avail for me. Vick showed a purely evil side, and I simply do not want him on my team. Two. Lets be honest. He was never that great of a QB. He is one hell of a runner, and in a FF league, he is a good QB to have as QBs who can rack up rushing yards have huge point potential. But his accuracy and actually ball throwing skills were simply never that great. Further still, he is a QB who takes off running at the first sign of pressure. I would much prefer to have a QB who can side step that pressure, while continuing to look downfield. You know. Like what you expect from a QB. Three. Vick is about as bad of a fit IMHO for our system as you will find. Whatever version you want to call it, we run a form of the WCO. We need accuracy far more than running ability from our QB, and that is simply not Vick's strength. If Cutler were to go down, we would have to either (a) totally change our system to accomodate the backup QB or ( force the backup to work within the same system. Either way, I think it would spell disaster. Four. I can not recall the last offseason that generated as much positive PR for the Bears. About the only knock on this team entering the season has been about the WRs, which are looking pretty damn good in camp so far. Take a look at the interviews even the national press has had w/ our players. Even those questions have a positive spin on them. If we add Vick, I think we will have done major harm to that good vibe we have going. No, that doesn't mean the seats won't get filled. But what it does mean is, now every question out of a reporters mouth will be about Vick. Cutler and Co are no longer the story. Our backup QB is. We will have a Terrell Owens like media circus, but w/o any return. At least w/ Owens you got production. W/ Vick, you get the media circus, but nothing else. Here in Dallas, it seems like everyday players talk in camp about how nice it is not to have 1,000 questions a day about TO. How do you think our players are going to feel about every question being about Vick? Five. I just have a hard time seeing our ownership going for this, nor Angelo. Lovie is BFF w/ Dungy, and the two may be supportive of Vick. At the same time, that doesn't mean Angelo and Virginia will sign off on such a move. I realize there is a ton of hate for Mikey, but the McCaskey family very much does consider image. Sure, we may take a risk here or there, but IMHO, adding a player like Vick goes beyond anything we have done or talked about. I can't see our ownership or management going for such a move.

I got this email from a friend of mine last night. ------------------------- I just read the post below from a poster on the board I get my news from. I think it's legit (that he heard this), whether or not it actually happens is another story. Thoughts? The story: I just heard it on NFL Siruis Radio, they were talking with a reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and they said the Packers are very interested [in Vick] as well are the Bears. The reporter went on to say how the Bears failed to land Andrew Walter who the Raiders cut loose, and Tony Dungy reached out to Lovie Smith when he heard of this news. He went on to say that Tony and Lovie went on to a 45 minute confrence call about Vick and how the Bears would benefit him as a back up. On the Packers side of things they were told 4 other teams were also interested in Vicks services, and they announed one of them was from the NFC North to try and get their side of the deal higher if they really want Vick. So the word is two of the five teams is Green Bay and Chicago, but with the relationship Loive and Tony have chances are good Vick is a Chicago Bear by the end of the week.

No. He was bound for the practice squad or a red shirt season anyway. Still sucks for him, but honestly, not a real affect on the team IMHO.
-
NT Anthony Adams / Dusty Dvoracek / Marcus Harrison (3 way tie) Harrison is low, but also got a late jump. I think he will rise to at least 2nd. I have not heard a thing about Dusty in camp, but Adams seems to be having a solid camp. In the end, I think we will see (unless Harrison breaks out) Adams get the bulk of the snaps on run downs and Harrison in the nickel or passing downs. SLB Pisa Tinoisamoa / Nick Roach / Jamar Williams Marcus Freeman (Pisa was quick to #1) Gotta say. This is a position that seems to have a nice group in the battle, but I have read next to nothing about in camp. LCB Trumaine McBride / Corey Graham (Tied) Little deceptive as they are not factoring injured players. Tillman is obviously the #1, but I think it safe to say Bowman has taken (despite the injury) the primary backup spot too. Still sad IMHO that we have Graham flat out burried. FS Danieal Manning Josh Bullocks Craig Steltz (Steltz 3rd string!!!!) What I find interesting here is, Afalava has been drawing a lot of praise for his work at FS, with the 1st string, and from all reports, seems to have moved ahead of Steltz. Really have to wonder at this point if Steltz makes it out of camp. If Afalava beats him out on the depth chart, I am not sure Steltz sticks. Earl Bennett Brandon Rideau Devin Aromashodu Johnny Knox (looks like Knox may get the redshirt IR, as we have discussed) This is the best battle, and I can't wait to see the final depth chart here. While Davis may currently be 2nd string, I think a big part of that is his starting out ahead due to his experience. All reports have flat out raved about Rideau and Aromashodu, and I have also read about Iglesias really coming on. In fact, the only Wr I have not read much about is Davis. So much is going to depend on preseason games, but at this point, it would not surprise me if Davis doesn't make it out of camp. I think he has been an insurance policy w/ so much youth at WR, but as that youth steps up, I think Davis could step out. As for Knox, I do not think he gets the red shirt. From what I have read, we have taken a very specific approach w/ him. Opposite Bennett, we are developing Knox at one position only, and envision him as a potential deep threat this season. I think he may not see a ton of snaps, but will be a deep threat every time he is on the field. That will be his niche. Matt Forte Kevin Jones Garrett Wolfe Adrian Peterson (AP better be a stud on ST or he's done) Could it be possible to see AP gone? I do not think it happens this year, but IMHO, it should. I would hate to cut one of the talented young WRs or a TE in order to keep a roster spot for him. Greg Olsen Desmond Clark Kellen Davis Michael Gaines (With davis ahead of Gaines, we may keep 4, as we have discussed) I think Davis was very much on the bubble, and may still be, but has been having a very solid camp. We may well keep 4 TEs.

I was under the impression speed was not the greatest asset in this scheme. Speed is a huge key when you play a lot of man, but less so when you play a lot of zone, which is a huge aspect of our scheme. Now, we may run different schemes, but when you talk about scheme, I assume you mean cover two. In a cover two, I don't think speed is quite as essential as you say. The CB plays his zone, and then will release to the safety on a deeper pattern. Heck, just look at both Tillman and Vasher. Neither have ever been considered speed guys. In fact, that was always one of Tillman's biggest weaknesses. Vasher isn't slow, but I wuold argue he is more quick than fast.

Schedule sucks, but kinda cool to get the news before everyone else. One thing I still am not sure. Is Labor day (Monday, Sept 7th) bad for you?

September 7th. Labor Day is the 1st Monday of September, and as the prior monday is actually August 31st, we have a late labor day this year. I personally would still like to draft that evening, if possible.

I would think any non-QB offensive position. In other words, if you have two great TEs, you can play both. I would rather avoid starting 2 QBs. There are simply not enough QBs to go around, and they can generate a lot of points.
