I like this signing the leftside iis done.....keep in mind we have also signed Manrei the OT turned TE to also help chip block to help both sides if needed.....cant wait
I think we still need another drafted player to make this a better OL.
-
No. He still has the potential to snag one of the spots on the right side. Scott was just resigned if Carimi takes the RG position.
Also what are these new training camp rules you speak of?
It was mentioned that Scott was signed to be the swing tackle. So the right tackle spot is a duel between Webb and Carmi. Early in camp if Webb shines I see them moving Carmi to OG. If Carmi takes the spot, that may be bad for Webb to stay on the roster.

Sure like Urlacher to Williams:
Urlacher - 84 and 53
Williams - 70 and 10
And wasn't that a part of the reason (at least speculation) that Urlacher "fell off" last year? Even though until that point he was leading the team in tackles?
If your going to compare them you have to compare what they do this year. Williams? Urlacher retired. I would have to say Williams wins hands down.

Backup QB solidified? Blanchard the #3?
I think that may close the door on free agency unless we get Idonije back.
-
I disagree I think Flukers size would make it difficult for any pass rusher to slip past the line. At least we agree that he would make a nice pick though
In regards to Carimi, he must impress in training camp- I think Webb has the edge over the two.
Watch this video. #76 Fluker is opening up the run and eating up his counterparts in the RT position.
Anybody watching the video , Jones is worth watching also.
-
Eh, I think Fluker would be better inside, I wouldn't mind the draft pick though. We all know I'm a Webb fan but I think Carimi and Fluker on the right side would be huge for the running game.
I havent seem anywhere they think he is a OG, he is a RT and if we draft him, thats where he will be playing.

He still has us going with Eifert, despite the Bennett signing. He characterizes Bennett as being inconstant and thinks Trestman wants another weapon on the offensive end.
No way thats going to happen, so much for being an expert.

11-12 wins?? I say 9-7 next year based off of what I know.
To be a 10-12 win team:
1. Webb has to be much, much better but this time at RT.
2. Bushrod has to be good, not average like he's always been.
3. Jeffery has to be good, not average again.
4. McClellin has to have 7-9 sacks.
5. They have to stay healthy.
6. Cutler has to be better + buy into this new system.
7. For once, Forte has to stay healthy.
8. Martellus Bennett has to earn his money and Earl Bennett has to stay healthy.
9. Hester has to be somewhat impactful on KR/PR.
10. They have to come away with 2-3 draftees who contribute right away, particularly at G, where the thought of Carimi and Brown being the starters at G makes me want to vomit.
For me, that's too many IF's to consider them a "11-12 win team," sorry.
I think the key to all this is the Trestman-Culter connection. If they do well together were 10-6, maybe 11-5. If they dont work well together, were 8-8 or 9-7. There are a lot of questions on the team, but there always is. I think we actually see some of last years draft picks making more of an impact. The change in the defense will make us around a 10-20 rated defense but if we get the OLine straighten out, our offense could be top10 in scoring in the league.

I think the Bears backed off Louis after they signed Scott. It appears they are moving Carimi inside. I still expect an OG in the draft and in the later rounds a Center. Not so sure about Jones as the more I've read about him lately the more it seems his lack of athleticism will make him an average player. In day 3 he's a yes but Rd 2 not and I don't think I'd draft him in Rd 3 (if we end up with a pick) as there will probably be better value in taking a WR, LB, or CB there.
I think he will be going higher than most predict. He will never make it out of the 2nd round.

You're the one talking conspiracy. I'm talking about the fact that it's not all monetary, and there is inherent value to a leader, a teammate, a respected member of the clubhouse, and a vocal member of an organization that could speak on the team's behalf when pursuing big name free agents. Is it that difficult for you to comprehend more than one possibility?
I won't trust Emery's moves until they bear fruit. Until then, we should all be skeptical since his track record is minimal and the success hasn't followed. If the Bears turn into the Patriots? Sure, he slowly but surely becomes untouchable. His decisions are not questioned. Until then, however, every move he makes should be met with uncertainty. Unless you're just simply into the idea of blindly trusting someone in charge...in which case you might want to avoid koolaid at the next random picnic.
One year with Lovie in his year isnt much of a resume to hang your hat on. I think I will wait until a few years have passed and see what we got. I would like him to succeed so why not support him. I am a Bears fan, so why not act like one. Last years draft is still a question mark but honestly it takes 3 years to judge a draft. I like what he has did so far,and we will see how that translates on the field. I get everything you have talked about but you have failed to accept my view point that he is to injury prone, to old, and to expensive to make worth having. The sad part of everything is I will not win the bet because he will probably never play another down in the NFL and you wont we able to see he is not good enough anymore and will miss games because of a broke body.

Where did the one year 4 million come from??? If that's true, that's crazy. I've check PFT and the Chicago new and there is no mention of money.
Emery has a back up plan and we will see it in a couple of days.
-
We were talking about the draft...
This thread is about resigning a FA, I wasnt necessarily addressing your post.
-
DE would not surprise me at all. For one, you can never have too many. Add to that, Peppers cap hit is going to be around 16mil next year and may be a casualty.
If you look atbig boards, DT-DE-CB, fall in that spot a lot. I see the possibility exists if Austin is there we might take him.
-
Yes i watched the games he played in and agree that he was horrible and SCARED to throw the ball, but this is not what we do with him gone .....but rather who do we get to replace him. Im glad he is gone he was too costly in the first place.... So lets go bring back Grossman or get V Young or someone who is not scared to throw the ball or runs when he needs too
I'm not sure is a Trestman type Qb. It will probably be McCown.
-
I think they'll play that out until the last minute. You never pass on or trade out of a situation where you feel you can get an impact player. If Emery feels he can trade down and get the same amount of impact players, I'm all for it.
We still have Idonije and Louis to sign and then I think were be done with FA. Oh I forget also a backup Qb.
-
He's gone and we've signed multiple players since the decision. We couldve kept him and he could play at a probowl level, but we may not have been able to afford Anderson, Hayden, Zibikowski and others. I think the choice was tough, but long term it will turn out right. His signing could be the difference of being able to keep Cutler/Peppers next season, who knows. Lets trust Emery has a vision layed out and it turns into Championships year after year.
We wont know how all of his moves work out for a year or two, but I like the fact he has a plan and I hope it works out.
-
It's like playing the stock market though. You might think you're letting go of an investment just at the right time (i.e. one year early), because you don't want to hold onto it when it plummets (i.e. one year late), but a lot of time you let go too early and watch the value rise back up for a few years...wishing the entire time you had held on for just another year.
The best I can say is that ultimately it's somewhat of a guessing game. Same in this situation. They feel like they made the right guess. I think Urlacher's injured offseason slowed him during the first half of the season, made him look worse than he was, and the second half - where he was looking better - was derailed by injury.
I guess the best way to look at it is he isnt here anymore, and good luck to him because he doesnt seem to be in high demand. Its probably a conspiracy but I will leave that up to Jason to figure that out.

Not surprisingly, you confuse the concepts of which we spoke. Obviously scrubs like Scott would sign, because if he didn't there's a possibility that he doesn't sign south of the Canadian border. But it remains to be seen if Chicago can pursue and tempt the high price, high profile free agents. I believe word from respected vets like Urlacher holds value for those all-stars searching for a new team.
I didnt confuse anything, your statement wasnt pointed to (all star type players), but lets face it fringe players are looking for jobs and will take what they get, but the only big contracts we signed would have had any effect because Urlacher was being showed the door. Over all players go where the money is and where they might be able to win a ring. All those other little points mean very little. It matters to you, but last time I checked you dont play in the NFL.

id stay far away from Minter. at least at 20. If we trade back for a 3rd, maybe
20 is a little high, but most new mocks have him going in the first. A trade down but be ideal.

I didn't want to start a new thread but was curious if these last few moves are indicating a change to the 3-4. Williams and Anderson both have experience in a 3-4. The draft is freeing up, where we can use a couple picks to fill the missing pieces. There is also articles on web that suggest this also released today. The next few weeks will be telling...
no way that happens this year.

After we signed what we hope will be our starting LT and TE for the next 4-5 years, in the last six days we have signed 6 players who either will start or add much need depth to the roster.
3.25.13--Signed Jonathon Scott who at worst will be a back-up swing-tackle. At best, he replaces J Webb at RT
3.24.13--Signed starting OLB James Anderson who was a big $$$ free agent two years ago.
3.23.13--Signed Tom Zbikowksi for LB & special teams depth. They say he could be the next Craig Steltz . . .
3.22.13--Signed MLB DJ Williams. He's probably better than Urlacher and cost less . . . if he can avoid getting suspended.
3.21.13--Signed blocking TE Steve Maneri.
3.20.13--Signed DE Turk McBride
I'm hoping 3.26.13 results in an answer and the OG position.
Were paying these 6 about the same money that Urlacher wanted to play this year with his first offer to the Bears. They brought Scott back as the swing tackle, but as we know he might end up the starter. We up graded the TE position, and I think the LBer play will be better than last year if they both can stay on the field. They both had productive years with there respective teams.

There are plenty of players around the league who can find millions, or at least hundreds of thousands of reasons to sign here. The Bears gave Urlacher over $60million during his career, that's bad treatment?
I am just trying to be a smart ass when I stated (why anybody would want to sign here), since some people on here made that type of statement.
-
Your right there are a lot of reasons that figure into a reason to not resign a player, but the most obvious is they dont think he can play at a level well enough to pay him the money he wanted. The new regime doesnt have the emotional ties to a player that we had, and want to upgrade the position. So they choose not to have him here anymore. The fact is hes not here and time to move on.
Like one GM stated(it is better to let a player go one year early than one year to late.)
-
Neither you nor I know the exact and complete reasoning behind Urlacher not being on the Bears. What we do know, however, is the likelihood of what would cause the Bears to not resign him. The three most likely possibilities are salary, age/ability, and connection to old regime. I don't see why it isn't some of all three. It would not be uncommon at all for a new leader to remove a very powerful supporter of previous leadership. It's a fairly universal concept; I can't believe you aren't even the least bit familiar with it.

Im not talking about on this board, I am talking about professional opinions. There have been some that have mentioned he could play OG but the overall vibe is a excellent RT.
