  1. I have to give Flus credit as well though. Since he has taken over the defense just looks different and we are seeing young players develop. Stevenson and Smith are developing young players, the young DT's are improving and trending up. Edwards is just a beast and seems to have fit into this defense perfectly (credit to Poles too) and obviously Sanborn is a solid, cheap, 2 down player. Jaylon Johnson is trending up and despite the blip around the trade deadline is trending in right direction too. If the Bears could somehow shift Flus to a DC role while bringing in a new HC, I would be ecstatic LOL. He really is a well above average DC in my mind and I like the wrinkles he applies to the base Cover-2. It is also this development that gives me more confidence in Poles as a GM too (cause you are starting to see Edmunds playing faster and I expect that will only improve with Sweat here and Edmunds getting more comfortable in the system and also healthier).
  2. This - Flus has got the defense trending in the right direction, big time. I have to acknowledge that and it stinks the offense looks so putrid. I honestly think if they hadn't blown those 2 leads, I would be leaning towards keeping him and finding a different playcaller. The problem is - than the Bears are putting themselves in the spot where your HC and QB are not on the same cadence (if the Bears were to draft a QB). And I just don't like the scenario where the team is a year from now saying, we DON'T have our QB and we literally went 2 years with top 3 picks and passed on the most important position in the league. Its a real tough spot - because I do really like the direction of the defense and if I squint and see some more draft picks, a big free agent investment (say the Vikings Dlinemen), resigning Jaylon, and continued growth out of our secondary and young DT's and I see a defense trending towards top end (which is great to see). I'd probably also add - one of those picks should be a young safety to play next to Brisker.
  3. Evidently Poles talked to Flus about getting Sweat and his difference makers involved (after Sweat was barely on field for final drive vs Lions). I wouldn’t be shocked if Poles told Flus - let Fields loose following bye week. Let Fields rise or fail - but take the training wheels off. Flus has ensured he is getting a DC job after he is fired. Defense has really been trending in right direction.
  4. What is weird is last year they were one of the fewest penalized teams in the league.
  5. Not sure if this was directed at me - but I loved Fields the individual, but I don’t think I have seen enough out of Fields the QB. I do give him credit for getting the win tonight and battling adversity to finish it out despite two late fumbles. Now go throw 3 tds and run for another after the bye. We win out and make the playoffs
  6. I mentioned this elsewhere. And it would be 6 wins in last 9 games. Crazy thing is Bears are 4-3 in prime time and 3-19 in all others in past two years.
  7. Here is what I don’t get. This play calling doesn’t make Getsy look good either. I think Getsy would be better up opening it up and having film of his qb missing open targets or not executing than this. Quite frankly Packers offensive coaches haven’t been great elsewhere since McCarthy left so Getsy could be crap. But I think I am now 95 percent plus on draft a qb with top pick.
  8. Yeah my drafts start with a qb.
  9. Allen and Hurts are also #1 and #2 in TD's (Combined Passing and Rushing) with 33 and 29 respectively. Allen leads in passing TD's and I believe is 2nd in rushing TD's.
  10. Also - we are pretty aligned, but the question is not whether Fields can be Brady or Brees…it is could he be like Big Ben or Josh Allen. Allen is probably not as good of a comparison cause he has no rings…but neither of them are guys who excelled in the traditional sense but their other outstanding physical abilities made them great to elite at what they did.
  11. 100 percent. The inverse in me says…what if this team didn’t have two historic blown games (Denver and Detroit). In that scenario - the narrative around tonights game would be this is a team that is 5-6, having won 5 of their last 8 with Fields having played 3 out of 4 of those games in an impressive fashion (Denver / Washington / Lions) with one clunker in between vs the Vikings (it happens). The crazy thing is - the team is closer to be above narrative than the 3-8 dumpster fire narrative and if they somehow won 4/5 games to finish season than you could really see reasons to stick the course for at least one more year (at least with Yields). Now someone might say well Fields is why they lost those two games but I don’t really think he was.
  12. This is really why I am interested in taking a QB with our top pick (or worse case one of our top 2 picks). I actually think Fields if he stays, would turn into the best QB the Bears have had in my lifetime and probably the best QB in franchise history. With that said - that doesn't say a lot, and with the amount of money a QB gets, you are going to pay Fields very close to Patrick Mahomes type of money....but I don't think is a Patrick Mahomes type of QB. I do think Fields trajectory will have him as a 7-15 QB over his career. But all QB's these days get paid Top 3 money due to the economics and a franchise paying a #10 QB that type of money can be a really big mistake that leaves you kind of stuck in a middling position. On the inverse - starting the clock over, you end up getting a young QB and putting them into a pretty good position. The young QB may have the same ending trajectory (i.e., they will be #7-#15 type of QB) - however, you have 4-5 years where they cost you a ton less money, so you can literally surround said player with 2 more blue chip players for that window. The whole dynamics in the NFL are really hard - cause 10 years ago (heck even 5 years ago), I would have been fully on board with moving the pick and sticking with Fields for at least another couple of years.
  13. In that scenario - I hope Warren has Harbaugh up his sleeve.
  14. I’ve made my decision. I like Fields but if Bears have top pick I’m taking Williams and than trading down a bit with the other pick (ideally getting a future 1st in the process). I’ll than deal Fields. Caleb is experienced and throws dimes and has basically carried his team for two years. He isn’t super tall but he’s thick and athletic and that accuracy is elite. If Fields was in year 2 I would stick with him, but to start the clock over with an elite qb talent on a rookie contract is way too good to pass up on. I would than sign Higgins. I will notate the only other consideration I would have is moving down and getting Harrison jr and sticking with Fields but he has to basically play like he did in 3 of last 4 from here on out. Even than man, passing on him when you basically have to pay Fields big money after next year is tough.
  15. That call to kick when it was already a two score game on 4th and 1 absolutely blew my mind. I mean what was the point of 9 vs 12. Nothing. But get the 1 yard and game is over. And than going into soft shell late was cowardly too. Double cowardly cost them the game. This game gave me a bit of - get #1 - trade it again (including for a future 1st) and add more weapons for Fields and keep making team better. Do take a qb though (whether later in first or in 2nd with whomever drops). Let fields roll and have the back up be the other guy and have future first next year in case you need to go qb.
  16. Fields played well today. In fact whole team looked good in general. Coaching staff did not. This is 3 out of 4 above average games from Fields. Now let’s get some wins Justin!
  17. Pix awesome news and stinger hope you keep progressing well in your recovery!
  18. That is the thing. The bears don’t have to mortgage the future to take a qb high (*fingers crossed panthers end up with top 2 pick*). They also would be pairing that qb with Moore and Kmet plus a quality running game and what looks like at least a few good oline men (Wright / Jenkins / Davis). Jones I will leave jury out on. Add into fact defense has some pieces and is young plus 100M in cap space and what will be likely another top 10 pick and this team has assets. I do go back to if I take a qb with one of the picks, I am probably trading back with the other one plus getting something for Fields (let’s say a 2nd). Bring in a legit coach like Harbaugh or if you like Day go pay for him or get Ben Johnson and that is not a total shit situation like you would normally see a #1 overall pick go into.
  19. This and the only thing that would undo that is if Fields goes off in next 7 weeks. Fields and Flus are connected for me. I don’t see any scenario where Bears keep flus and draft a qb or pass on a qb and fire Flus.
  20. Jared Goff has thrown for 4600+ yards twice in his career and is on track to do it a 3rd time this year. He also has thrown 28 or more touchdowns 3 times in his career and is roughly on track to do it a 4th time this year. Justin Fields through for just over 2000 yards in his 2nd season...Goff through for 3800 and 28 TD's in that year. I get it - team blah blah blah. Jared Goff is a really good QB, clearly top 10. Whether Rams moved on or not - they did, but Goff had been a huge part of getting to the Superbowl and getting deep into playoffs during his Rams career. If Jared Goff was on the Bears his whole career to this point - he would be #1 in every meaningful statistic out there. For anyone saying Fields is on the same level as Goff - its absolutely laughable. And don't tell me about system and talent and blah blah blah. The Texans QB is doing just great with a patch work oline and barely any offensive weapons. We as Bear fans like to make excuses for QB's - but you know what, no excuses, put up or shut up time for Fields this year. Either he does or doesn't - coaching, scheme, oline, blah blah blah. Do those things matter, yes, but a really good QB will overcome it enough and show you those skills. Fields has flashed it - I'll give him that, but currently he isn't on the same hemisphere as Jared Goff from a performance perspective.
  21. And if we are one of those desperate teams - we don't have to trade and give up a bunch of assets to get there. We can draft him and still have another good pick which we could either trade down or use to fill other voids (plus cap space, etc).
