5 turnovers and a ton of penalties and lose by a TD, that is what you call beating yourself. The refs didn't help. Some really ticky tack calls on Bears and blatant ones not called on Saints. It looked like the PHI/DAL game, PHI never gets called for a penalty.
-
You have to keep taking swings at QB until you get one.

Fields needs to come back on THU against CAR. Velus needs to be cut, what a waste of a roster spot. Claypool and Velus have been Poles' biggest mistakes to date. With Velus being older, that was already a red flag that his game might not transfer to the NFL. Then after all the drops, and an entire offseason to hone his craft he is still dropping balls.

If CAR can't beat IND today or CHI on THU, I doubt they win another game (maybe GB). So then it will come down to SoS and CAR will beat ARZ for the #1 pick. It looks like the Bears will get 4-5 wins, CAR and ARZ, and maybe MIN. That probably ends up with pick #4 or #5 meaning they would miss out on MHJ if they chose a QB at #1.

1. ARZ 1-8 2. CAR 1-6 vs. IND 3. CHI 2-7 4. NE 2-7 5. NYG 2-6 vs LVR Bears currently drafting 2 and 3. I don't know if Arizona wins another game.

Outside of the INT, the offense has looked good. The defense is playing too soft again on passing plays. Almost every completion is a slant or the seam, they have to tighten that up. Only allowed 33 yards rushing, but 137 passing. No penalties called on the Saints.

Offense looks efficient and in sync. Need a score before the half.
-
Poles better extend Johnson, secondary getting smoked.
-
Bagent needs to just throw the ball away. Way too many defenders facing him at that point.
-
That was the catch of his career, wow. Great start.

I am torn on if this means anything for Fields. My first thought on this was if the Bears were willing to lock in another long term contract for big money, this leads me to believe that they already made their mind up on Fields. If they where going to keep him, they would not be signing any big long term deals. On the flip side, they did front load the deal and only signed Billings to 2 years, which would be the end of Fields 5th year. So it seems like Poles did it again. He has signed quality players while also hedging his bet on Fields. This could mean they could still draft a QB and keep Fields for next year.

This goes back to the fact that just because someone held a position, that doesn't make them an expert. He was a terrible GM and his takes are terrible. I could care less what he says about anything. By the time the draft rolls around, the Bears will have added DJ Moore and Montez Sweat for basically free. They will have the choice of QBs, if they elect to go that route and another blue-chip player.
-
One little side note on this trade and deal. This is the 2nd impact player Poles has traded for in the last year with DJ Moore. With most teams only improving thru the draft and free agency, this seems like bonus moves.
-
Totally fine with the contract. I am glad we got Sweat and Billings locked in. By next offseason, it will only be a top 10 contract.

The trenches are so important. They need a new Center, and I am not sold on Dexter or Pickens yet. They won't go Center that early, but maybe with their 3rd rounder, but 3T still seems like an option in the top 10.
-
Assuming 2 QBs go 1-2, it has to be MHJ at 3. At 10, I would probably look to trade back. It gets tricky after that. If you can't, I would lean Edge or CB (if Johnson is not extended).
-
Good move, surprised he signed it with all the stuff going on and with the team's record. I am sure it is a nice raise.
-
Bagent starts, potential to have Sweat playing. A chance for Braxton Jones to play. Bears by 10.
-
This is beyond ridiculous now. This team is in shambles, rock bottom.
-
Now David Walker, the RB coach is fired, by HR? What the hell is going on in Halas Hall? Someone in a leadership position needs to be held accountable. Flus needs to go, Kevin Warren can't just sit idle while the entire franchise melts in front of him. Can you imagine how Montez Sweat feels about joining this professional clown show. At least the Bears lead the league in something, the most asst. coaches fired in a season.
-
He may be better than I thought. Since 2019, Sweat's rookie year, here is a list of players with 120 Tackles, 80 QB Hits, 40 TFL, 30 Sacks, and at least 1 INT. TJ Watt, Nick Bosa, Shaquil Barrett, Josh Allen, Montez Sweat, and Cameron Heyward. Removing the INT adds Myles Garrett, Aaron Donald, Matt Judon, Cameron Jordan, Maxx Crosby, Brian Burns, Joey Bosa, and DeForest Buckner to the list. I would think being in that company, you have to be pretty good, and actually somewhat underrated. That is arguably 14 of the top 20 DL/Edge players in the NFL.
-
The Raiders weren't scared to pull the trigger. GM and coach gone. Can NFL teams stop hiring Josh Freaking McDaniels? He is terrible as a HC.
-
Sweat probably pushes our run defense to a top 3 unit. Hopefully he can push the pass defense to a top 20 unit. If he can do that, and Fields can come back and play up to his potential, they may be able to scrape together some wins (4-5 more) by the end of the year. Long-term, he needs to be signed to an extension or this will be a total waste of a draft pick, and Poles should be fired on the spot.
-
That's why it seems to me that Poles thinks this team is closer to contending (next two years) than it seems. That was his original window, basically playoffs in 3 years (next year), then competing regularly for deeper playoff runs. His age is concerning only in the fact that this is his peak, rarely to players get better after 28. From what I read, 27 is the peak age for NFL players, and most don't improve much after that season.
-
The biggest issue is his knee. It is a ticking timebomb. After Ogunjobi, I can understand why Poles went the safe route. Also, SF will probably only use Young as a rental and let him leave and get another comp pick for him as they really don't need to sign any FAs this offseason. They are in better position to do that. The Bears are not and needed to solidify the edge position since Mack/Quinn were traded. Poles is literally reading the "GM 101" rulebook. Just like the Moore trade, this was a no-brainer, with 2x 1sts, they could afford to give up the 2nd.
