I would say Iupati or Franklin via FA and Grasu in the draft would be awesome. Shift Long outside like you said and we have Ola, Mills, DLP for depth.

Patrick Willis isn't on that list but with Borland developing and Willis missing most of last season, some reports that the niners are looking to trade Willis. My presumption is it will either be a late round pick for Willis or they'll just outright cut him. If they cut him, given all of our needs, I'd think we'd look at Patrick Willis to help give us a leader as we transition to the 3-4. If we are going to get good fast, we will have to hit on draft picks, but we'll also need to be very good and creative in free agency.

Yep, and we'll have to take risks on guys like Willis where the reward will be high if there's a hit.

I'm on the record saying that I'm OK with Jones/Bostic at ILB but I'm not sure I could pass up Patrick Willis at the right price.

49ers have Borland, Bowman, and Willis, and all play the middle, so it would make sense to move one of the higher-priced injury-risk players.

A lot of change has already happened in San Francisco and more could be coming. Sources say that star linebacker Patrick Willis could be shopped to other teams in a trade and also could end up being a cap casualty. Willis missed the final 10 games of the 2014 season with a toe injury. The 49ers feel they have a younger and much cheaper replacement ready to take his place with Chris Borland. With NaVorro Bowman coming back, Willis could be deemed too expensive for a team that is tight against the cap.

Fairly certain Hundley is going to be a 2nd round QB (possibly as early as late 1st round). Don't think its very realistic that he's going in the 5th. Isn't Crowder also higher rated than a 4th rounder?

Thinking because this is a weak QB class Hundley may drop similar to Fales last year the only way he rises is Jim Mora says clearly that he thinks he can handle the transition. Russell Wilson was much more polished coming out and the only knock on him was his size. and Crowder's size and the fact that he could be no more than a slot WR puts him in this round IMO

I didn't think Fales really dropped? Wilson doesn't have near the "tools" that Hundley has (not saying Hundley will be a better QB). Hundely was considered a top 10 pick entering the season. He didn't take the steps you'd expect but his tools are very very strong. Hard to compare him and Fales since Fales has hardly any of the major tools you look for in a QB. That isn't to say he won't work out, because the most critical tool is your ability to read defenses, anticipate and make the right throws, but he has a pretty limited overall skill-set in terms of arm strength, etc.

Do you mean "tools" or measurables? The ball that Wilson threw to win the game was a perfect throw and what you want out of your QB on a deep throw.

 

One of the sites I frequent for draft prospects had Hundley rated neck and neck with Mariotta. The west coast QBs have all taken a crap on themselves when they got to the NFL except Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck. IMO the scouts I'm sure are trying to project what these two guys can do on the next level and I believe that that will have some affect. I've noticed in the last couple of years teams are holding out on reaching for a qb after seeing what happen with RGIII, Christian Ponder, Geno Smith and a couple of others. These trends are fascinating when it comes to draft time and I predict that the RB position may make a slight come back in the early rounds this year with Melvin Gordon being a late first rd pick.
