We have a year to find out how good Fields will be. Logically we should have 2 1st rounders next year, if we need to move up to grab A QB. Fields will take a leap forward.

this is definitely the (insurance) plan. and if Fields does ball out, that's a great WR for him in 2024.

Justin literally said he wanted him as the first round pick. At #1 or #4 that is insane, so i think Fields is just giving his guy some love.

 Justin said he can pop open any time.  The guy has no flaws as a slot WR.  He out performed Olave and Wilson in 2021 with more receptions and yards.  He was hurt and shutdown in 2022 to prepare for the draft. It may be press live, but this was the #1 WR going into the college season until he got hurt.  Justin understands the Bears need big guys up front, but he said if there is a way he falls to us he would ecstatic.

Based on cost for the position, need at position, and long term roster building, I think the Bears will target guys like this:

Dre'Mont Jones, DT

Jamel Dean, CB, TB

Kaleb McGary, RT, ATL

DJ Chark, WR, DET

David Long, LB, TEN

 

Dean will be the highest paid free agent CB this year, that's not where Poles will spend the money. He did list CB as one of his premium positions thou. OL , pass rushers and CB was his mentions. With having the defensive backfield intact and some backups with upside, not sure that is a priority.We can use an upgrade at every position but think he's line building this year. I think he will draft one but not high.

I think Bobby Okereke/ LB is coming here. Literally he said he wants to go a team with good coaches and a scheme fit for his talent. Played under Flus. He hasn't resigned Morrow yet, so I believe he would have done that if he wanted him back.

My guess is Payne stays with WAS, so Jones would be the next one, but won't cost as much. I would rather go RT than LT with Jones improving, so McGary would be "cheaper" than McGlinchey or Brown and he plays RT. Chark won't cost a lot and Long is an all-around good LB. So Dean would be the highest paid relative to others at his position than the others.  

Hypothetical defensive starters would be something like this:

[ W. Anderson | D. Jones | mid-level FA + Justin Jones | M. Davenport ] - Gipson/Robinson rotational Edge

[ Johnson - Gordon - Sanborn - Long or Okereke - Dean ]

[ Brisker - Jackson ]

In sub packages 75% of time with only 2 LBs and I have no issues with Okereke instead of Long. 

 

On offense, if they believe in Braxton Jones, then the offense could look like:

[ Chark | Kmet | Jones | Whitehair or Rookie | Pocic | Jenkins | McGary | Mooney | Claypool] - Rookie WR + Hooper rotational

[ Fields | Sanders ] - Herbert + Blasingame 

 

That team would look like the Jags, if not slightly better. Thoughts?

ESPN with another article about trading Fields. You can't turn on any national media without hearing them discuss it. What is going on? Like I get that the Bears have the 1st pick, but has any QB ever been scrutinized this much? It started with his work ethic pre-draft, then reading defenses, then he can't throw, now is it better to go with an unproven QB over him. 

I just look at like the media is helping us trade out of the number 1 pick.

for sure, but of course their intent is just to tell stories and get eyeballs / clicks. luckily, that is working to our advantage this time.

The entire offseason goes thru Chicago.  It’s going to be a wild ride.
