OC Thomas Brown

Featured Replies

I don't much about the guy or if he will be any better.. but I did like his press conference..

He has 8 games to get something going. It beats leaving Waldrom running the show.

He was bad as the Panthers OC last year, but they had terrible players. He made a 30 yr old Thielen into a 1K WR, so he can obviously scheme guys open. The scary thing is he was already the Passing Game Coordinator and that seemed like a total mess. Maybe it was all Waldron.

We will see, but it is hard to see how they take the plays that don't work, then somehow change them to work, and have the players in sync with these new plays.

It will be interesting, but I would be shocked at a major turnaround at this point. Any improvement is better than nothing, but when you are this bad, almost anything will look like a positive.

One thing I heard is that he'll be in the booth.  I believe that the best place for an OC.  They get a better field view and don't have to deal with the emotion/chaos of the sideline, plus their assistants are easier to converse with in the booth.  Sometimes adjustments and creativity come from collaboration.

I heard they didnt want a bunch of different voices in Calebs ear. Joseph and Wadron were the only 2. Flus obvisously had some contact but took a minor role.

How does the Passing Game Coordinator not talk to the QB though? Like aren't those the scouted routes that are drawn up by Brown that they are executing? What am I missing about the Passing Game Coordinator? How does that guy not sit in meetings with Caleb, Waldron, and Joseph?

A lot of it doesnt make sense, Im sure they all do but the OC is the one doing the game plan with Caleb.

It really doesn't make sense.

They said that they had not had an entire "unit" meeting? So they just met in their individual position groups and never had a offensive unit meeting where they are all in it together? No wonder they are all disjointed. I can't imagine not having a full unit meeting at least once or twice a week. Wild.

What if Tom Brown fixes the offense and CW takes giant steps forward. Poles fires Flus gives the job to Brown and makes Williams the DC (which he already is) and let him run the defense. We win 2-3 games end up with the same record as last yr. We keep continuity.

why the hell would we want to keep continuity?

Just because something was a 3 out of 10 and now is a 5 isnt good enough. We need an 8 or a 9.

I dont know why youre so reluctant to move on and try for greatness.

I have been off the Flus wagon for several weeks now and Im not lobbing to bring him back.

Im one of the biggest dreamers in the world but Im trying to give a realistic proposal of what might happen. Who is greatness? They didnt hire Harbaugh so talking about that is a waste of time. As of now the top rookie coach is Quinn, a former fired  defensive head coach . Harbaugh may be second on that list. Last years rookie HC of the year was DeMarco Ryans, a former DC.

Bill Belichick is the only (greatness ) out there and will want control of personal and Poles wont be hiring him.

The hotest name is Brain Flores a DC. Former HC that sued the team and NFL, reaaly doubt George would hire him. (greatness?)

Mike Vrabel is a former defensive HC that had several good yrs but got fired. Good coach but probably not heading for greatness.

They're several OCs available but have no idea how well they may do. Our last hire was an offensive minded coach that was at the top of most lists in 2017.

I personally think Gruden would be a good hire, he still needs to prove greatness in his career.

Tell me who they are going to hire to bring us greatness?

If they interview everyone and Brown is the pick, so be it. I dont expect that, but OK.

But theyd better not give him any extra points for continuity, because we are looking for change, not continuity.

I like Kilff Kingsbury. Ben Johnson is intriguing, but Im not sold on his leadership skills.

There is a possibility that the Niners will fire Kyle Shanahan too. Id take a look at him if hes available.

Brown may be a great head coach some day, but I dont think he's ready yet to be hired in that capacity.

I refer to continuity as to keep Caleb in the same offense with familar faces instead of punching a ticket for a new offense and different coach to get comfortable with.

getting the right coach is much more important. Getting even the #2 guy so Caleb doesnt have to learn another language is mis-valuing things in the decision, in my opinion.

RIght now, I'm liking Kliff Kingsbury, and he worked with Caleb a couple years ago, so he probably already speaks a language Caleb knows too?

But if a 50 year old Bill Belichick was available, I wouldnt hesitate for a second, no matter if Caleb needed to learn a new system or not. It's not like Caleb is throwing for 400 yard a game in the current system...

Continuity makes the most sense when youre having wild success. We have only gone from dysfunctional to competent. Now is not the time to take our chips off the table.

I am only for Brown if he makes the offense like we thought preseason on paper. If they do start exploding on offense, then blow the coaching staff up.  I think Brown can help so it's a slim chance. Otherwise, I want to see a proven guy.  Kingsbury is nagy 2.0 in my opinion. If he can't get the offense going, he loses the veteran Def 4 or 5 games in.

I am trying to predict what Poles is going to do, I can pretend Shanahan gets fired and Poles grabs him and we live happly ever after but that is fantasy at this point.. Kingsbury was fired in 2022, and only could land a adiviory job at USC in 2023. Clearly an offensive mind but what am I missing?

Johnson will be the hot name, did well with oddense but what about his HC presence? He had job offers last year but stayed with Lions. That tells me he may not think he is  ready to be a HC yet. Nagy was a hot topic the yr he took the HC job and it failed. Unless you get a proven guy like Belichick or Vrabel, there is risk to any hire that after 2 yrs underperformed. Its a crap shoot.

It was one game with brown - was it better, yes - but let’s not jump way ahead. If 4 weeks from now they have put up 25+ points a game then we can talk.

As this point Im  grabbing anything positive I can. Next week may be something different.

Welp, we're 2 games in and Thomas Brown has now coordinated the two best games of Caleb's career in consecutive weeks against two great defenses.

Also, Caleb's post game comments are telling:

Waldron should've been gone at the bye. What could've been. Another wasted season.

This - Caleb played fantastic today and against a defense that can wreck rookie qbs. Flus is one game closer to being gone and they should have a high pick for some linemen.

Dang did Caleb play well. I just need the players to keep playing so it doesn’t get toxic in that locker room. Lions game on turkey day will be another tough one but I feel real good about Caleb’s last 2 games.

If this is actually Brown's work, they just need to make him the interim HC and kick Flus to the curb. With such a short turn around, I am just hoping for a solid game out of Williams and keep the team competitive throughout the game. A win would be great for morale, but a loss would help out immensely for the draft position.
