Bears Select TE Colston Loveland at #10

I wanted an OT, and when Banks was gone, I wanted a trade down. It's easy to be disappointed in the move.

But none of that changes Loveland as a player. He's a great route runner who can get open at the top of the route. He does a lot of what Kennan Allen did last year.

His NFL comp is Tyler Eifert, and that's not a bad guy to have at all.

I hope Johnson makes us love Loveland.

In my mind, I feel like we might trade up into the bottom of the first for an OT. But maybe someone falls to #39.

12-personnel will be used ALOT. He basically becomes pseudo-WR3 as well.

I know that’s the talking point, but there are two items that make it a bad point:

1. Go look at the Lions’s TE stats last year. Unless Kmet gets traded, it’s a waste.

2. Number THREE Wide Receiver. As in third guy. As in, not worthy of a #10 pick.

I did say a few months ago that Kmet was on the bubble...

Johnson needs one he can count on, and Johnson is great at the break of his route, like Keenan Allen. He is far superior at getting open than Warren is.

I wanted an OT. I wanted Banks, and then onve he was gone I would have traded down for Ersery, but i dont hate Loveland as a player at all.

Ive been saying Loveland was better than Warren this whole time too.

Meh. I was talking myself into Warren because I thought that would be the pick. I haven’t really even looked that much at Loveland. I guess we’ll see. As I’ve said before, I don’t really get the 12 personnel argument because the Lions used it a lot and their slot/TE3 didn’t get the ball very much, but if we are going to trust Ben Johnson and assume he had his fingerprints on this pick, he must have a plan, so let’s see what it is. Not thrilled that he had shoulder surgery and won’t be ready for minicamp but sounds like he should be fine for training camp. The NFL people I follow on Twitter seem to mostly really like the pick, and they’ve obviously watched more of him than I have. Interested to hear if there were any trade down discussions. Let’s see what the rest of the draft looks like.

I don't like it at 10 either. I would rather have went Edge, DT, or CB there if they couldn't trade back.

I watched him all season.  He's a stud.  Not worth #10 no matter how you slice it.  Perhaps trading back was explored and nothing materialized.  Fact is the first 9 picks were basically CHALK and Poles had to know the board was going to look like this when we were on the clock.  He either wasn’t prepared or he got the piece we needed for the new offense.  Seems like the Bears dump a fan favorite TE each time we get a new HC.

Again, I loved his play for the Wolverines but still a head scratcher at 10.

I do not see Kmet going anywhere.  He is the inline blocker.  Loveland will either line up slot or the move TE.  It disguises the offense so the Bears will be almost entirely in 12 man.  Get a stud RB and watch out.  Defenses won't know what they are doing run/pass.

He'll be here this year, but an inline blocker is not worth the cap space he takes up for next year.

A couple months ago when we were talking cuts for cap space, i brought up Kmet, and figured he stays this year and is gone next year. Time will tell of course.

Our top needs are still definitely LT and HB. and you dont want to leave defense undrafted. Going TE definitely throws the draft out of rhythm as far as addressing the D.

I guess the HB has to wait for the 3rd round. 2nd round picks gotta be LT and D i think?

Unless they just roll with what they have and than just focus on the offense side this year.

You are probably right though phx. Maybe we don’t see them draft a back until round 5. It isn’t like they can’t roll with Swift and than figure out back another year.

IDIOTS!!! the SHITSHOW continues. the absolute last position we need to draft we waste #10 on a TE not even ranked the best. DT, DE, CB all good players and we get a TE who is NOT good at contested catches? FIRE POLES.

Actually a lot of people had him ranked higher or just as high as Warren.  He's a better athlete in space than Warren and he's like gumby with his catch radius.  Most importantly he is the better fit to pair up with Kmet and I think he'll quickly become Caleb's favorite target.   The Patriots owned the league with Brady and 2 TEs for many years.   I'm not putting anyone in Gronk's category (much less Brady) just saying that with the right offensive mind Rome, DJ, Loveland, and Kmet will cause DCs headaches running or passing.  Add in the right RB in Rd 2 and we're well on our way.
