Is Poles becoming Pace?

The Pace comparison confuses me, Poles actually manages the Cap brilliantly. Doesn't give huge contracts to average players. All the contracts he gave to core players in yr 2 looks like a bargain. If you mean he thinks he's the smartest guy in room when taking people we never heard of, they all do that.  This is the year the rebuild pays dividends. I thought it was going to be last year but I think keeping Flus sealed that not happening.

Burden will be in the rotation, tripoli will become the swing T, Turner gets in the rotation on the DL, and the RB will be the duel back guy. Newman will make the 53, we finally are adding depth. The LB and CB Will probably be PS all year.

It sounds like you're agreeing and misunderstanding my post at the same time.

One thing to consider, with the new staff that this is not a one-year rebuild. So some of these picks may not have been the most optimal for 2025, but for the totality of the their contracts.

Loveland may share targets with Kmet in 2025, then be TE1 with 90% of the targets in 2026. Burden may be WR3 in 2025, but is WR1 or WR2 in 2026 or 27. Trapilo may not start in 2025, but could be their starting RT down the line. Turner the same way. If Hyppolite, can develop for a year under Edmunds and Edwards, he could replace Edmunds next season.

Look at PIT's picks, they took Harmon, Johnson, and Sawyer, with only 3 picks in the first 4 rounds. I guarantee you all 3 will be contributors on Day 1 for the Steelers. The Bears had 4 picks before PIT had 2.

I like Harmon but he's very similar to Dexter and can't really bend so he's easy to avoid.  Aside from that he's great at getting pressure up the middle.  That would have been very welcome on our team.   Kaleb Johnson is a good pick at RB.   Jack Sawyer offers very little in pass rush, he's just going to be a rotational guy in the NFL with no starter potential IMO.  That's ok as a 4th Rd pick but I think his name and school increased his theoretical value.

The Bears have 3 players who will be contributing on day 1.   We have future starting TE1 in Loveland with clear Pro Bowl potential.   A likely starting WR3 this year in Burton (not much competition) with potential to become WR2 in the future and replace DJ Moore.   Both positions were clear needs and both were good value picks.

Ozzy Trapilo just feels like a backup swing OT or maybe a future starting RT.  He's not a starting LT for sure.  From a draft standpoint this one feels like a reach to me.  However I do like the depth and competition we now have on the Oline.  This reach I think confirms the end of the Braxton Jones era I just don't know the expiration date.  I suspect the team is quietly hoping Kiran can win the job this offseason and Trapilo is just an insurance policy with the last ditch effort being to move Wright to the left side.  I hope we never see Wright move.

Shemar Turner I like quite a lot.  We needed more depth at DT and pressure up the middle.  He definitely will contribute this year and has potential to be a good starter down the road.  With Grady and Shemar the energy level on the defensive front is going way up this year.

Lastly...Pittsburgh has no QB.

That is the point - they didn’t just draft for need which is good. While they may all bust - I feel like they actually drafted good football players with potential and quality measurables. In some cases grabbed a guy who fell vs where he would have been projected 6 months sooner but for reasons they think don’t make sense (Wr due to bad qb play and our DT due to a stress fracture he played through)

Poles said in an interview that Luther was not on their big board because they didn't think he would make it out of the first round . I don't think they expected to take him but couldn't pass on the talent.

The deeper you dig into the other draftees the more you like them. Hippo was the biggest surprise because pundits appeared to ignore him because he didn't go to the combine.

After his pro day, he started moving up draft boards. Team captain for 2 yrs, good production,   high football IQ, and speed to burn. He would have been the fastest LB at the combine which would have gotten him drafted in the 4th round where we took him.

Also he did come in on a pre draft visit, no one had that info. DA likes to blitz LBers, why not the fastest LB in this draft.

On YouTube ( Chicago bears channel) watch his interview, mature player, team leader in the future. https://youtu.be/UWw_zsqquaU?si=ejgEPMed26-xKV7c
