I’m Fascinated to see . . .

. . . The Bears behind the scenes draft video this year. I’m assuming they do one because they do such a good job and they are really popular. But there’s so much speculation about the Bears getting sniped on their picks, like wanting Kelvin Banks or Treyveon Henderson, or Cam Skattebo. Are we going to be able to use Bright in the videos? Will they cut around it? Was it all fake news and it turns out they got guys they actually targeted? Eagerly waiting for it to drop.

The last month before the draft is lying season. You can't take anything any team says as Truth.  Poles holds his cards close. No one has given me a reason to believe that someone that has a leak of bears information actually has a source. I think most people start rumors and speculate.

Poles obviously showed he was drafting Caleb, no secrets. He said he was getting an upgrade at center. Easy to put together that was Dalman. No one had the Thuney or Jackson trade information. I didn't see anyone suggest we were taking Loveland over Warren. A few picked Loveland in mocks but it was because Warren was gone.

They might show Banks going because they expected 3 to go.

Poles: "And....Banks is gone, are we still on Loveland?"   Ben Johnson starts rocking faster in his chair like an addict about to get his fix, yes Yes YES.

Round 2.  Poles: "Henderson still there and my god so is Burden."  Guys think we can get both 39 and 41? Which one do you think the Saints might take, Kamara is getting older but Burden is a top 20 value.  Never mind, Patriots just took Henderson.  What you think Antwaan, do you want Burden? Want to call him and tell him he is a Bear?

The only GM who got all the guys he targeted for the draft was Phil Emery.   Good players are going to have a lot of buyers.  I have no doubt a RB was on their wishlist of upgrades.  However, I like how Poles played the hand he was dealt.    While I think Ben Johnson wanted a RB, perhaps even one of the Ohio State RBs, I don't think he was disappointed in the least by the WR that fell in his lap in Rd 2.  In the press conference afterward Johnson commented how impressed he was with overall organization of the draft process, how the draft was managed by Poles, and I think by correlation the good talent that was added to the roster overall.

Meanwhile his old team was doing this:

https://www.detroitlions.com/news/detroit-lions-trade-up-2025-nfl-draft-wide-receiver-isaac-teslaa

"The Lions moved up 32 spots from No. 102 to No. 70 in the third round to select TeSlaa. Detroit gave up pick 102 in the third round of this year's draft and both of their third-round picks in next year's draft to get into a position to select TeSlaa. Detroit received a sixth-round pick this year (No. 182) and a sixth-round pick next year in the trade."

I don't know anything about Tesla except he is a good athlete but was generally ranked as a day 3 prospect, and that could have been anywhere from Rd 4 to 7.  They are going to miss those two 3rd Rd picks next year.

Poles stuck to a plan and got some extra assets to add to the roster. I would have loved Skattebo but after getting assets to turn around and give them away to grab a specific player was good judgement. They estimate how the draft falls and adjust. Getting Monongai in the 7th will prove to be a great bargain.

If you watch his tape, he  has quickness but not long speed. He was 4th the nation in broken tackles. A  violent runner. In 2024 Rutgers had no passing offense and stacked the box in every game and he still finished 2 nd in the league in rushing.

Here is my thoughts abut home run hitting HBs:

Obviously if you take any player on your team and shave 0.2 seconds off of their forty time, that's better. of course.

But the job of a HB in my mind is to move the chains, and force the defense down into the box. Make those LBers lean forward. I'd rather have a guy who got a bunch of 7 and 15 yard runs rather than a guy who breaks one 75 yard run.

Now if your guy is also a home run hitter, well then thats amazing, and I love it. But a tough runner who moves the chains is really the most important thing to my way of thinking. A guy who can pass block, and has hands out fo the backfield. A guy who runs strong and always falls forward, and not for 4 yeard, but for 7 and 15. A guy with some wiggle and some strength - all more important in my opinion than speed, unless that speed comes with all the other things too.
