However it shakes out our backup LT will be the best backup LT we’ve had in years. I agree with this. Ozzy is raw though, and especially his first two snaps were ugly. But you could tell he was being challenged a lot the whole game. At one point they started helping Ozzy with chips and rollouts away from his side etc. He was amazing in the running game though, he can really move people. But protecting Caleb has to be job 1. I think he will be able to do it, but he needs more experience. Hopefully that comes fast. Braxton on the other hand was a mess on most of his snaps. Im gonna rewatch it this week, and take some specific notes on each rep.

I havent watched or paid attention to his snaps (Jones) but Mongo did and he said most of his snaps were good , he had two bad plays. I trust his opinion and once I get a chance to watch his plays, I may have a different opinion. Also Ozzy was similar in his review.

BearFan PHX
OK, so I just did Jones. Havent done Trapilo yet, will have to wait for another day. Jones had 24 reps. 15 Passes, and 9 Runs Out of 15 pass reps, he did poorly on 5 of them (and well on 10). on one rep he gave up a sack, beaten cleanly outside, didnt even slow the guy down on two other reps he gave up pressures, including one untouched to the inside where he whiffed in a way that could get your QB killed he got bullrushed twice in a row and pushed back into the pocket, and on one of those reps he also false started, but it wasnt called. so, from the outside, a sack, and another pressure, from the inside, a pressure, and up the middle two bull rushes that pushed him back into the pocket, and a false start. Of the 9 running plays he did a good job identifying who to block, including some really good zone plays got out to the second level when needed, and showed good movement delivered a good first punch engaged about half the time, and turned guys when he did failed to hold his block about half the time too, and defenders wiggled out of his block including one play on the goalline where the runner was stopped by a man that Jones had turned outside, and who fought off of Jones and got across his face inside to stop the ball carrier. He had some good reps for sure, but there were enough troublesome moments that I would not be fully comfortable with him at LT. Not saying there is a better option, i have to scout Trapilo next, but if it's Jones who gets the job, he is too often a weak link. If anyone wants to see my notes to see what I mean, they are pasted here. Braxton Jones Q1 14:53 1&10 Pass Jones rides the DE out and handles him well Q1 14:49 2&10 Pass Reads blitz, blitzer chipped, then BJ mirrors opponent, handles him well Q1 14:17 3&16 Pass defender chipped by TE, still Jones fails to engage or mirror defender, who slips around him. Had the QB not thrown quickly it would have been a pressure. Q1 3:34 1&10 Run moves and turns his man well, arm across the back holding, but good play Q1 2:59 2&9 Pass stands his man up for quick pass Q1 2:24 3&4 Pass absorbs defender, neutralizes him Q2 14:05 1&10 Run locates LB and gets to second level, Ok punch but he doesnt stay engaged. Great run by Monangai by the way, great vision, cutback away from where Braxton's guy was going after shedding Jones, protects the ball in traffic and scoots for a 14yd gain Q2 13:32 1&10 Run gets outside, locates a LB and rides him away from the play Q2 12:57 2&7 Pass Good backside zone blocking. pushes his man away and helps the back with a blitzer outside of him. Q2 12:23 1&10 Pass Neutralizes defender at the line Q2 11:46 1&10 Run moves his man well Q2 11:28 1&20 Pass Good mirror, absorbs his guy Q2 10:55 2&15 Pass Good mirror, but let himself get pushed backward and upright toward the QB Q2 10:47 3&15 Pass false start (wasnt called) on BJ, get stood up again and walked back toward the QB the DE is learning Jones can be moved with a bull rush Q2 10:10 1&10 Run, absorbed his guy well Q2 9:36 2&7 Run, good zone choices, helps with the DT and then peel off to seal the backside against the DE Q2 8:55 1&10 Run tough nosed block moves his guy Q2 8:21 2&10 Pass Jones mirrors, is being moved a bit then Monangai chips in an neutralizes with a strong hit Q2 7:45 3&2 Run stands his man up and turns him Q2 7:14 1&Goal Run good punch, moves his man, but cant hold his block, and his guy is able to squirm around him and hit the ball carrier short of the goal line Q2 6:49 1&Goal Pass decent lateral movement, part of misdirection, so block didnt need to be made Q2 6:11 2&Goal Pass Beaten to the outside, his guy gets around him shallow enough to flush and then sack the QB who was moving away out of the pocket. So Jones whiffed, didnt even slow his guy down. Q2 5:31 3&Goal Pass stands his guy up for a moment, all thats needed for that play Q2 4:53 4&Goal Pass Jones is beaten to the inside, his guy comes free to the QB who is pressured and has to get rid of it quickly 24 reps 15 Passes 1 sack 2 bullrush back toward the pocket (one was also a false start) 2 pressures 9 Runs Made smart choices Delivered a consistent punch Moved people failed to hold blocks on several plays
