Mongo3451
Something I've noticed, the last month, is that we have not run any exotic blitzes from our secondary. Also, not seeing twists and stunts, which can also help and hurt the run defense. I remember discussing the value of having CJGJ and Gordon on the field, at the same time, due to their potential versatility. That flamed out about the same time DA stopped implementing CJGJ in the pass rush. Am I onto something?

DA has gone very vanilla and sort of hoped for the other teams to make a mistake instead of forcing them into ones. I think a lot has to do with injuries. Johnson and Gordon have played in one game together, against PHI. That's it. Edmunds has missed 4 and hasn't been the same since coming back from injury. Edwards missed 7 games. So with the LBs missing time, communication and pre-snap alignment has probably not been as clean as you would like it to be.
BearFan PHX
Yeah I think he is keeping some stuff for the playoffs, but I also think he is playing the opponent. Against SF, when we did blitz, they picked it up easily, and allowed Purdy to burn us. Its not enough to call a blitz, we have to get home, and when your front four are easy to handle one on one, then blitzes are less effective. I do expect more chaos from DA in the playoffs too. Bears4Ever_34
I haven't noticed CJGJ on blitzes as much, either, lately. I could be wrong. They tried blitzing in the first Packers game, and Love killed them. Their defensive line is so bad, and their team speed is so slow that they're really kind of damned if they do or damned if they don't at this point. CJ is awful in coverage and as much as Wright has made plays he has gotten cooked a ton too. Stevenson and JJ are still hampered quite a bit from injuries but trending in right direction and his LB corps has been decimated so almost no depth. And rush defense is a mess too with minimal to no interior penetration. I think he is just trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. I’ll go further and say Brisker is a shell of what he was pre injuries too. My hope is JJ trends in right direction and finishes as a top end player and Stevenson trends right way. Even better if Kyler is actually 100 percent. But this is a spectacularly bad defense outside of the turnovers. Like Mel Tucker bad and it isn’t because of coaching (in my opinion). I also think given how flawed CJ is - they kind of know what to watch for if he is there so very little exotic he can really do given the personnel he has. DA needs players.

CJGJ isnt even a CB, hes a safety, and hes been forced to be a CB this year. Next year he will replace Brisker, and all will be well. I mean in terms of CJGJ, this defense also needs players bad. He had played both but was slow and as he has aged has only gotten slower. Guy just isn’t good anymore (no knock on him just is what it is). He made some nice plays for the bears in a pinch but he is a trash player at this point - just like McCloud is. As many snaps as they are giving to guy with such poor coverage skills is going to expose you. Wright is a bit better cause he has the length but like McCloud and CJGJ he has zero foot speed and gets torched by quick.

Alaskan Grizzly
I wouldn’t be surprised to see some pass rush through blitzing today. Goff is not at all mobile and once rattled starts making mistakes. Problem is gotta be careful with Montgomery and Gibbs in the mix.
