Bears sign DB Cam Lewis

Featured Replies

Another solid depth piece, looks to fill the McCloud role (who was burnt way too much when he was on the field), so this may be bigger upgrade than face value.

Greg Gabriel said he took a lot of snaps at NB. I think he replaces Gardner- Johnson on the roster. Can play several positions.

Was thinking about this signing and I wonder if it's time to put Kyler Gordon at outside CB and use Lewis more in the nickel. If you keep Gordon in the nickel, you have a bit of a void at #2 CB IMO unless someone out there really believes in Tyrique Stevenson. But if you put Gordon outside, then use some combination of Lewis/Stevenson/Blackwell inside (where I think Stevenson's tackling becomes more of an asset), then I think your CB lineup is looking a bit better. Now, maybe they are targeting a potential #2 CB in the draft which moots all this, but that approach makes sense to me. Then you still have guys like Terrell Smith (if he can ever stay healthy) and Zah Frazier as developing at outside CB.

I think Stephenson has a ton of talent, but his mind hasn't been on the game properly. Im not even saying I think it ever will be. But if he grew up, he'd be a pretty good CB.

I'm not ready to give up on him either. I still think he's pretty talented but took a step back last year. Hope he rights the ship because he's kind of important from a depth standpoint.

I agree, but at the same time, if we draft his replacement, that'd be OK too.

I'm curious to see what we have in Zah Frasier too. No idea what last year's absence was about, but Al Harris pushed for him, and we saw what he did with Nashon Wright, so maybe Frasier will be excellent for us?

It would be awesome to see Zah Frazier take his skills to the next level with the Bears. We seen it with Nashon Wright, so why not Zah. Stevenson must have a low maturity level because he has talent but seems to waste it by not taking his opportunity to the highest level. If he would show seriousness, he could have a long career.

It's hard to remember but these are just kids too. That doesnt mean I forgive his lack of discipline, but it does mean that redemption is possible?

He was 24 last year - maybe some maturity will kick in. And either way, new faces will be nipping at his heels.

I could see 2 of first 3 or 4 picks being dbs (safety and CB).

I think that's highly likely. A safety is almost a lock, and we need CBs. I dont think JJ is sticking around very long. Hopefully his play is elevated from last year, having a healthy offseason, but otherwise he's being paid too much for his production?

It's hard to coach the dumb out of guy. I'm rooting for him.

What suggests to you that he is dumb?

His lack of overall discipline. The whole hail Mary thing was a huge tell. When you're off talking smack instead of lining up, then try to make up for it by blowing your assignment. In my occupation, the dumbest people don't read the room or perform with understanding the greater good.

Oh I get it. I though you were talking about Zah.

Stevenson with all his talent still has to prove himself. As far as players like Zak and Hyppolite can still develop into contributing assets. I think to quickly a lot of people blow off players that don't show instant success. We have coaches now that can develop players. Some take longer. Dushon Wright is like that and was a complete surprise.

I think we do draft both S and CB in the draft. I am curious to see what a faster team looks like for DAs scheme.

Yeah, one transitioned to the other. My bad. Rooting for Zah too...
