Week 6 Official Game Thread - CHI @ ATL

Featured Replies

This season is close to being a wash. Murphy is kicking their butt. Monsoon loss, Bryant injury, Caleb injury, Gordon recovery, now Sweat suspension. JJ and Stevenson playing below replacement level. They trade Dexter and he is playing at a PB level. Bagent looking like a CFL backup.

With all of that going wrong somehow they are 3-2.

Bryant injury

Saw something pop up about his injury recovery being more like 4-6 months as if it was a new update. Has his status changed from what we previously knew?

Penix is currently “day to day” with his rib injury. He says he’ll be ready for week 6. There’s definitely a different level of play when he’s in vs Tua. Of course Bijan is having a massive year so yeah…

Could be worse. Look at the Rams and they have Pro Bowl players all over their roster

Dexter is absolutely not playing like a pro Bowl player. I’ve watched two Falcons games. Why I don’t really know. In both games I almost never heard his name called and I was trying to find him on the field. Nether could my sons who watched the last game with me. He seems to be a situational player or just part of a rotation. He makes a play he every now and then like he did in Chicago but I see nothing that says his contract will age well.

Penix loves to throw to London. Baltimore tried to cover him with a zone and failed. Bijan is incredible. Every time he was on the field Baltimore just run blitzed and shut him down. We would do well to follow that.

Atlanta’s second and third level run defense is shaky. Get past the Dline and you can often get good gains even some chunk plays.

In the ‘positive news’ department; Caleb and Gordon were listed as FULL participants for today’s practice.

Asked about Kyler Gordon’s status Ben simply said the plan is the same…we want to see him practice for 21 days before making a decision. No trust there.

Ben also said we have guys on the roster who haven’t played yet. On that list are Jayden Loving and Jamree Kromah. The fact it’s critical we stop the run against Atlanta I’m going to guess we go bigger bodies on the Dline and this week we see Jayden Loving get the call. I expect they’ll have Lynch play more snaps at DE, he’s already taken some snaps there this season and if needed Daniel Hardy takes some snaps at DE as well. Hardy gets the nod over Jamree because of special teams.

I still like Loving’s potential.

I will feel a lot bette If we go into Atlanta with our starting qb and pull out a win (better yet a convincing win). Very worried about this game with our dline and lb corps and DBs…

Practice report for today. Good and bad. Defense is a mess with Edwards and possibly Sweat out. I would say possibly because of Stevenson too but if Muhammad is next man up there, I’d like to see how he does. No Monangai ☹️and both Gordon and Caleb “Questionable” after practicing all week.

Monongai hurts.

I was wrong about seeing RoJo fill in. He’s no good. Can see why Ben has been keeping him low on the totem pole. Would rather see preseason darling Ahmed give it a crack - as backup.

I wonder if they went with the other guy to save ahmed for later in the season. I know you can only activate and move back to practice squad so many times with vets. Added Edit... looks like 3 times they can elevate then have to be signed to 53 or released.

Yeah, Roschon is low IQ as a runner, but trusted in pass protection. If Ahmed can pick up the pass pro part, he may be an option. Ben's system is predicated on being able to run multiple sets off the same look. Can't do that if you don't block.

Kyler Gordon was just activated

Was just about the post that too. And among some other roster moves they cut Xavior Woods, which is quizzical to me. With Bryant out for a bit longer who will play opposite Thieneman; Elijah Hicks or Skyler Thomas? Edit: Biggs says Cam Lewis will be safety opposite Thieneman

I’ve been off Roschon bandwagon since last year. The most likely explanation for Xavier Scott, 6’1” 220lbs, being activated over Ahmed, 5’11" 196lbs, is that he’s better on special teams. I’ve seen it said that Xavier Scott is also good at pass pro as well but cannot vouch for that. He spent some time last year as the 3rd RB for the Vikings catching a few passes. They’ve activated Scott again this week and given how poorly Roschon ran last week I’m wondering if they have them switch roles moving Roschon back to special teams and letting Scott handle some running plays.

It’s a pretty low bar: Roschon Johnson rushed five times for six yards and caught five passes for 34 yards in the Bears' Week 5 loss to the Packers.

I remember him now. Remember the RBs running drills during camp and noted he had really fast feet and tree trunks for thighs. Highlights here show he does pretty good as a catching back and mostly is a North / South runner. I’d like to see what he can offer.
