Bears meet with and sign Ratliff

Featured Replies

This is a good thing. That article makes it sound as if he is now healthy but likely not in shape to play. Even if he can't help us now he might be a big help in 3-4 weeks. Signing him should mean we can get Wootton back to his natural DE position and SMC back to his backup DE position.

whatever gets McClellin off the field is a good thing

You have that Lenny and Squiggy timing.

All I know is Ratliff at 85% is better then what we have. If he could come back, he could be a potential hail mary at getting the defense to start looking better. Have no problem signing him (worse case, he doesn't play and you drop him).

Done Deal. Bears signed him to a 1 year contract. Still won't be ready for a few weeks though.

Former Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff has agreed to 1-year contract to join Bears. Will play against Cowboys later this month

Ex-Cowboys DT Jay Ratliff may not be able to play for a few weeks. but he has a deal. A 1-year deal with the #Bears, per source.

Ratliff is still, maybe, 2-4 weeks away from playing. But the Bears have a huge need at DT. Locked it up now.

when you roll the dice sometimes you come up with a 7 or 11 and at worst it wasnt a heavy bet

I am assuming this so-called 1yr contract is in fact a contract for 8-12 weeks? Not a bad bet at all and hopefully this not only helps us later this season but if he plays well ideally it helps us to sign him to a new contract. There are no guarantees but surely if we gave him the best offer this year, and if he likes playing for the Bears, he might appreciate that enough to at least give us a chance to meet any offer he gets on the FA market.

I like this signing. Let's hope we can find a way to win a couple of games while we wait for Cutler, Briggs and Ratliff.

Peace :dabears

I like it, and I'm glad the talkbears moralists aren't poo pooing on this guy.

Sucks that he'll be out the next 2 weeks, at least, because I believe the season will be decided with these next 2 games. Particularly the Detroit game. If they lose that game then the seasons over. One of San Fran/Seattle is a lock to get one of the Wild Cards and I think the North Bears/Pack/Lions get the other one.

the GB game looks unattainable but the Lions are a team that we can beat, remains to be seen what happens but one game at a time.
