As for the 3rd round compensation picks, that will be announced next week in the leagues new year if the Bears are getting them. Poles might know and it may have leaked to Cronin, but until the NFL announces it, it is speculation.

Packers just traded for Franklin at LB, one of the worst in the league last year outside of tackle totals. The downgrade from Quay Walker to Franklin is huge. If they also lose Gary, there is no way their defense is as good as it was this year, especially considering their DC is now the HC in Miami.

I was good with Biadasz at $10mil/yr but I think Bradbury at $5.7 is a better deal considering what else we can do with that cap space (i.e. FA LT). The sum of the Oline parts will be better. That’s still wishful thinking until we sign a LT.
-
It's all about the Cap space. This isn't the same as past years, we don't have flexibility. Of course they could restructure several contracts but they will only do what they think they need to fill some holes. Like AB said, I think they next try to sign some of their own FAs. The deals on veterans won't be the first few days.
-
McGovern resigned with the Bills for $13M AAV for 4 yrs making him the 3rd highest paid Center in the NFL. Linderbaum will probably get $15M+. That doesn't make sense for the Bears with losing Dalman so unexpectedly. Getting Bradbury for $5.7M is a great deal all things considered. Biadasz signed or $10M AAV.
-
Seeing a Byard team friendly extension before FA would be the best news the Bears can do now. He may not be the best guy, but keeping some leadership continuity intact is important in my opinion. He can mentor the one or two additions the Bears will add from the draft.
-
Rashad Gary officially available. Solid add on defense if they go after him. Draft interior in round 1 and than safety, lb and secondary.
-
Odafe Owah is one more name to watch. Had real productive year after moving to Chargers. Prior year had 10 sacks. Former 1st rounder and still young (26).
-
Some names we haven’t talked about, but that are younger: Jaelyn Phillips - 26 - First healthy year in a bit but with a regular offseason could see this guy ascending. Former first rounder who crushed it before being slowed by injuries. Still has some prime years left. Kenneth Walker / Etienne - If poles wants to go younger either of these guys fit the bill. Given Month deal, you should be able to move Swifty. Etienne isn’t much younger. Bryan Cook / Koby Bryant - Top safetys on market entering is his prime. Joseph Ossai - sack numbers not there but ascending. Quite a few pressures.
-
I wonder is they surprise us and sign a DB and than go dline in draft. I’m totally on board giving Hendrickson big money for 2 years presuming he gets a clean bill of health. Dude gets to the qb.
-
I'm okay with Decker if he's cheap enough because they only need one year at the most from him . He gave up 33 pressures last year which is Braxton Jones territory but it is temporary. I trust BJ on his opinion.
-
You said the key word in sports, TRUST. BJ has to trust Caleb, Caleb has to trust his WRs and the lineman needs to know his their teammates will pick up something you had a misstep on.
-
I think we will pay like a 10 mil contract for a DL, either DE or possibly a DT. Not sure we will for another position. I think Byard may get close to that but not any free agent Ss or LBers. You can find cheaper Free agents to compete at S and LB. Example would be TJ Edwards, a great value at what we have paid him. I think a Cam Jordan or Mack if we can get at a team friendly price. I just think they are Cap conscious with every move, so it will selective and not at a big price. I would love us to bring in Johnathan Allen at a bargain price.

It's a leg up when you know somebody and trust them. I've always said, continuity is key. I'm sure organizational leaders will say the same...

I do have a question for you to address your experience. When I played football it high school at an above average level and went to college, my first year I hurt my back, it was the last time I played. My question is being college roommates with Thuney and still friends does that give him a slight advantage over another center coming in here?
-
That works. Not sure we won't get an edge too. Could be a big name, could be mid tier?
-
I understand, I'm just not sure at 73 , I'm going to learn to speak differently. We are all passionate about our opinions, so I never get mad over little things. Reasonable people discuss things and you always have been a reasonable person. It probably comes from plumbing for 55 years, I speak exactly because people with less knowledge would always try to tell I was wrong about something. I'm highly intelligent when I speak of plumbing but that's the only thing I'm an expert on. AND I have been wrong before, but it was a rarity.
-
I'm not trying to dog you out. It's your grammar that states fact vs thought. I try not to judge, because I know where your heart lies. It is sometimes confusing though.
-
Agree on everything you said.
-
Agree, I believe at other times for the bears, someone might have gotten inside information but Poles hasn't shown since he's been here.
-
IMO, everyone on here knows everything I say is my opinion. There is nothing I seen her predict that was first time hearing it or where she scooped a story. How ever you wish to hear when I speak is up to you. And you're entitled to have a different opinion, I'm not here to convince anyone the right or wrong thing. I'm on her Twitter and watch her podcast. My memory fades me so if I missed something she had a scoop on, I will gladly say I'm wrong.

He’s a 2nd tier FA that’s seems about right. I think he knows what his market value is. Detroit's offense was a bit of a circus last year. If you’re going to take less money maybe you just prefer to go play for the guy who you know can run an offense. That coach just happens to have a massive need at LT. No need to go through all work of learning a new offense either.
-
No, the best pay for information from agents like Rapport or Shefter so they can break news. To think Cronin or Biggs gets secrets to leak is wishful thinking. They go with their gut to talk and both do wonderful work.
-
Does anyone have sources in the organization anymore? I don’t see a lot of leaks anymore. These days it seems like everyone just reads tea leaves.
