  4. Dennis Allen likes bigger DEs that can win strength wise on the edge. They need long arms, around 6'5 and 270#. He wants that over their ability to get to the QB. Finding that player is like finding Caleb, its a unicorn. I hope they find one next draft.

Too young to be gone. Rest easy Matt Suhey.

Madden played the Bears- Panthers game today and it is all in on the Bears. 51-10 Swift rushes for 201 Bryant and Dexter had big games on defense.

Kyler Murray will just be Kyler Murray. A QB good enough to beat you, bad enough to lose you the game (depends on which side you’re on). He’ll be with a very good offensive coach who can mask deficiencies but as a defense you have to force Murray to read things and bypass the first read. I don’t know what other make of Detroit but I don’t see them as tough as the rest of the NFL predicts they will be. They don’t worry me but also won’t be an easy game. Green Bay without Josh Jacobs they have a problem. He’s a very talented RB they know they will need him for the playoff run. Beating them comes down to interior pass rush because their QB gets nervous. Jared Goff has improved a lot in this regard and will stand in the pocket. You can still disrupt Love’s entire game with some pressures early on.

    Seems reasonable.

I dont think fast LBs are the equivalent of nickel. I understand the point about hiding the deficit at nickleback with three fast LBs, but I dont think that really works. When you need nickel, you need nickel. One related question might be were we in nickel MORE often last year because we were hiding a deficiency at speed at LB? That might be more likely, so maybe we will play less than 75% Nickel (last year), but not because we are hiding the deficit at NB, but because we ARENT hiding a speed deficit at LB? And probably not a big effect, DA plays Nickel about 70% of the time across his career. NFL average is 60% in nickel, so maybe there is some room for this adjustment. But probably only from 75% to 70% or something like that if at all?

I think Jacobs is never to be heard from again even if he comes back late. If Lloyd stays healthy or Kaleb Johnson shows his stuff, I think they dumb Jacobs for the salary contribution. IF they struggle with the run game, they will want him back. What does everyone think of Kyler Murray? I think he preforms better than being projected. Lions are going to be a juggernaut on offense but as usual, their defense is injured again. They have a rookie RT, Penell is playing LT and a new center with no fanfare. I dont think they start the season hitting the ground running.
  14. I think even if someone is new to your scheme, a player has played with the traits for that scheme. Example , we brought in DTs that have a quick step, low pad level and more speed. Dexter didnt fit that profile but everyone we brought in did. Like you have mentioned, At DE, its go get the QB and can fit in right away.

As anyone that's played before, injures are always different for each player. He is working out at Halas Hall so we can monitor his progress. I never got the impression from Gordon before that he was a soft player. Money changes your mental outlook so as it plays out, it will show if that is the problem. I think with his injures last year where he came back and wasnt 100% that he wants to make sure he doesnt have a reoccurring problem with injures and wants to make sure he's 100% before he steps on the field. Is he safeguarding it to much, probably. He has a month to completely be healed then I expect him to balls out when he does come back. The key to the defense is can someone carry the load before he comes back. With Bryant being out , this is critical on our performance early. Ourlads has the depth chart as Cam Lewis and Blackwell as the first inline to play there. I have read Muhammad is taking snaps there but I think they will prefer a vet as to letting the rookie ride the spot early. I am asking for your opinions, do you think we play with the 3 LB sets more? DeMarco Jackson, Devin Bush and TJ Edwards seem like a strong group and with the added speed at that spot, will it stay on the field for more snaps. Last year we were in the Nickel defense scheme 75% of the time. Maybe 60% this year?

More like Nathan Vasher. Didn’t we pay him some good money only to have him then play soft?
  17. Last week

  18. great example! wasnt that a great day? I really dont like the packers.
  19. Khalil Mack September 9th, 2018.
  20. Dayo now costs a little more to cut, but the Bears really like him, so hope he shows us what they see. Last years 8 games didnt show a lot, but they were learning what DA needed
  21. I had Dayo down as a cut right after our last game. That’s gone. Edwards was also a potential cut candidate depending on how his season goes and then the offseason acquisitions.

I've been having a gut feeling of the same for a while now. Yuck. To have that much talent and not want it is a shame.
  24. it also depends on the position. OL need to work together to gain cohesion, especially in zone blocking schemes where they have to know what the next guy is going to do too. But a Pass Rusher can just be told "tee off and get the QB" and a few rules about when he has the edge contain. RBs are pretty fungible too, whereas a safety might need to understand the scheme a little more thoroughly?
  25. In case you didn't know, Terrell Smith CB signed to the practice squad with the Washington Commanders.
  26. Exactly. With talent, love for the game, and work ethic, the system can be a small part because you are already have the keys. The system and gelling still matter at positions like QB and WR, maybe oline because one mistake will kill that play. On defense, you at least have 10 more defenders to help cover a mistake.

I have a theory that he made a pact with himself that he would be done once he got the second contract. He watched Nate Davis do it and is following his playbook. It is my dark theory and it is sad many fans have to think about this. I hope I am wrong and he does return and plays a huge role in the Bears success. His workout videos show he rehabbing, so not sure he would be throwing hints of his progress and work to quit.
  28. adam replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
My assumption is Gordon wants to feel 100% before returning and probably stops the minute he feels something. Until he gets over that mental hurdle, he is going to be stuck in this loop. At this point, I don't even consider him part of the team anymore. If he comes back and contributes, cool, but I am not betting on it. Trapilo had a traumatic injury and recovery and is out there months ahead of schedule, and Gordon can suit up because of soft tissue without a surgery to recover from?
  29. I never understood how on one side of the coin, they say it takes time to get to know a system and your teammates (seems totally logical), but then they can trade for a player at the deadline who immediately contributes. What that tells me is individual skills still rule them all. If a guy is struggling because "he is still learning the system" then he probably is not very good to begin with.
