  2. Ozzie Trapilo might make a great guard if Thuney is too expensive. He was looked at as the most ready in the draft to play right away at OT, so I expect him to compete there first. I want to see the Bears keep drafting oline until they can have a starting unit with all their guys they have drafted.

  4. Matt Miller had Luther Burden as the favorite pick of the entire draft. Loveland was his 7th. Pretty cool. He had Burden as his top WR and Loveland as his top TE. Here were his write-ups: Burden was my top wide receiver in the class (I'm counting Travis Hunter as a two-way player), and he landed in a great situation with the Bears and new coach Ben Johnson. Burden's yards-after-catch ability is terrific, and Johnson's scheme has been elite at creating space for wide receivers. Burden likely starts as a slot receiver with DJ Moore and Rome Odunze flanking him, but he thrived in that alignment at Missouri. I had Loveland as my No. 1 tight end, and apparently the Bears agreed; they made him the top tight end drafted. His ability in the passing game -- he runs routes like a receiver and has the speed to separate from linebackers and safeties -- makes Loveland an easy comparison to Sam LaPorta, whom Bears coach Ben Johnson had great success with in Detroit. Value, need and scheme fit all match with this pick.

  6. I agree. And it is possible that with Roushar's tutoring, Braxton Jones will be good. The Saints had a guy, was it Armsted? Anyway he had similar issues to Jones' and Roushar made him an all-pro, so if that's what happens, I'll be thrilled of course. But then I wonder why the 2nd round OT pick? No doubt tho your point remains - whoever is playing LT is going to be better with Thuney next to him.
  7. Youre right of course. And if that's the standard of evidence around here that's fine by me, but we have to play by it equally I think the fact that we traded down right after each HB got taken in front of us is pretty good evidence, but it's circumstantial I agree, not proof.
  8. Also, on the LT front, it's worth noting that instead of starting Jake Curhan, Doug Kramer or (when healthy) Teven Jenkins/Ryan Bates at LG, we are starting All-Pro Joe Thuney. Having that level of player next to you at LG and being able to trust that he's going to do his job and help you with your job should take a little bit more off the plate of the LT than we have had in recent years. Not saying that LT isn't still crucially important, but an offensive line works best as a unit where players trust each other, and I'm cautiously optimistic to say that after years of not having that, we might actually be at that point now.
  9. I think they would have kept him if DA wanted him.
  10. Unless Poles comes out and says they were trying to move up, it's just rumors. One person starts a rumor, then 10 people repeat that rumor, it doesn't make it a fact. Last year in a video, Poles was getting nervous to move up to take Rome, Ian made him wait and we got Rome. That's a fact because we saw a video verifying it. Poles has never stated he try to move up, he said he let the draft come to him.
  11. but we have heard that there WAS urgency? Poles was trying to trade up for Henderson, and traded down a couple times right after a HB got picked, indicating we were probably hoping for that HB? Swift is decent, but I dont think our HB room is as good as our WR room, our TE room or our DB room? So it's natural to want to elevate the weaker part of your roster? One thing that should be said is that now we are becoming a GOOD roster, so the weakest links arent necessarily terrible players, they just arent as good as the guys around them at other positions, so they become the focus of the next upgrade. Swfit would start for a bunch of teams in the NFL, but he is not a top 15 HB. That's not hating, it's what happens when your roster becomes excellent?
  12. I totally share your optimism. Assuming we get LT right, and i do assume that we will one way or another, we should be a formidable offense. From QB to playcaller, with all those weapons to throw to, and what is currently a decent HB room, we should be a real problem to defend.
  13. I think, they wait until they see what they have before they add another RB. The perception of fans and pundits is we need more. They may have already more faith in RJ and Swift and that is why there was no urgency to take a RB in the second round,
  14. I always wanted Warren because of his running the ball was more versatile but Johnson wanted Loveland because of his receiving skills. More like Laporte but probably better. We have so much talent on offense and a offense creator, OMG I can't wait. Remember when Detroit had a losing record and then started winning, they were still scoring a lot of points. Then each year just got better.
  15. Both will probably be good, just kind of funny that Warren is actually older than Brock Bowers.

    Nick Chubb?

For RB, it seems like it will come down to Chubb, Williams, or maybe someone like Ameer Abdullah? He had 40 receptions last year for LVR, which is impressive considering how bad they were. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry on the same team that Alexander Mattison averaged 3.2.
  17. Demarcus Walker is still a UFA.
  18. Offense TE Everett (246 snaps) > Loveland Lewis (220 snaps) > Smythe WR Allen (850 snaps) > Burden Carter (137 snaps) > Duvernay RB Herbert (27 snaps) > Monangai OL Shelton (1122 snaps) > Dalman Jenkins (738 snaps) > Thuney Pryor (1006 snaps) > Jackson Davis (142 snaps) > Newman Borom/Curhan (591 snaps)> Trapilo Defense DL Taylor (375 snaps) > Turner Walker (739 snaps) > Odeyingbo Cowart (335 snaps) > Jarrett LB Sanborn (235 snaps) > Hyppolite CB Jones (76 snaps) > Frazier Over 5000 snaps replaced on Offense, and 1700 on defense. The entire secondary is basically coming back, and considering they are in Nickel most of the time, the back-7 are virtually unchanged from last year. Outside of the rookies being unknowns, it looks like upgrades across the board outside of Sanborn to Hyppolite and maybe Allen to Burden is a wash in 2025. Loveland over Everett is massive. Every OL spot is massive. I still feel like Edge could use another guy, especially if they don't believe in Robinson, but that's it.

hmmm I dunno. The coach probably gets a "what do you think" before you take a player, but not before a trade back, I think? It's an interesting question. id love to know the actual answer.
  20. Yeah, I was saying Loveland was better than Warren all offseason after watching them both. I didnt think we would pick either one, but Warren is not the threat that Loveland is. Warren is more like Kmet in style, while Loveland is like more like a big WR.
  21. and for PFF grades, only Turner was graded "below average" which is quite impressive considering the snap counts. Loveland - 85.9 Burden - 77.9 Trapilo - 76.8 Turner - 59.4 Hyppolite - 69.2 Frazier - 85.9 Newman - 71.9 Monangai - 77.3

I'm guessing, 9 outta 10 times, the coach gets a, "what do you think" before the trigger gets pulled. After that, everybody goes back to their Hollywood stage marks for the hype film.
  23. This has definitely been a beast of an off season. We are champions for the three peat. Jokes aside, I love what Poles and company have done. Getting the staff in place exceeded my expectations. The five trench players acquired before the draft are all upgraded starters. The draft fell awkwardly to us, but Poles found several future starters and special teamers. We became much stronger in the trenches and faster at the skills. And we are still in solid cap space. Very solid job. We talked about blue chip players in the past. If Caleb, Rome and Coleston emerge, I believe the team will be at 13 and rising.
  24. Yup! Good catch. Less mileage. Faster, taller and better in and out of cuts. Lastly, better RAC. I'll give Warren the size and physicality.
  25. Rule one of football: low man wins!
  26. Also, while Monangai is smaller than Montgomery (5’8 211 v. 5’10ā€ 222), their 40 times and 10 yard splits are virtually identical (Monangai is 4.6/1.54 and Montgomery was 4.6/1.55).
  27. Correct, and both had 13x 100 yard rushing games in their last two seasons. Production-wise, those numbers are really close.
  28. So it is Monty - I’m going to say Monty is player B.
