  1. Today
  2. Yeah, we arent that good yet. Upcoming teams are going to challenge, and probably expose us, especially without a pass rush. But Caleb will get good reps against real defenses, and if he can keep pace, that will carry over to next year to build on.
  3. We are very lucky to have Caleb, and he is gonna lead us to that Super Bowl we all want so much. I cant say when, but when this is all working, we will be contenders every year, just like a real football team.
  4. I'm ready for him to hand it off to game ball winners. I think that would be very cool. It's also neat to see Warren and Poles get in the action.
  5. The combined record of teams we have beaten is 13 and 41. If and when we beat a team with a winning record, I'll celebrate. As of now, we are winning ugly while favored. Our defense is fragile. We can't stop the run without Edwards and are still not causing pressure from the front four. The bright spots have been the OL, TE's, and Rome. Caleb is up and down, but is looking like he has the clutch gene and is willing to throw the team on his back when it counts.
  6. at 6-3 we definitely control our own future. and you're right the Minnesota and San Francisco are winnable games, and important ones in terms of making the playoffs. But of course without a pass rush we arent going far into the playoffs either this year. I will love to see this team fight to get into the playoffs, and I'm looking forward to how they look against the really tougher teams, even if we lose. If we give them a game and show we can stand with them that will be a tremendous step forward we can build on next year. But if/when we taste the playoffs, I don't expect we will stay alive very long. I'm not saying this to be a downer, quite the opposite, I'm just saying that my expectations can be met for this season if Caleb develops and we learn that we are actually a team. A lot of that is already happening, and with this season to build on next year, I expect the window to be open, and to stop looking for moral victories and actually start kicking some ass. Especially with some kind of fix for the defensive line. If we could get excellent DL play next year, this team will be truly dangerous.
  7. Yesterday
  8. 1.5 seasons to become a top 10 QB. That’s pretty good.
  9. I don’t know how much of a good thing CJ has been in coverage. There were a lot of blown coverage his first game and quite a few last game. Making splash plays is good. Giving them up is bad. Hopefully we’ll see more consistency in the next game.
  10. Yeah...same. So was Nagy around that same time. And is again...if you can believe that. Something tells me that Nagy will become the next Josh McDaniels. Decent OC(?) who never made it as an HC.
  11. Ah yes, the Lovie Smith era. And the last time in a Super Bowl. Sigh... LOL. Surprised that Fangio's defense with the 2018 squad didn't rate.
  12. In looking at CJ's history he's listed as a Safety but says he played "outside corner" at some point. It mentions New Orleans as one of those places (probably for Allen) and maybe that's why he isn't (or won't) play outside corner for the Bears. LOL... I agree with whomever said, "don't fix it if it ain't broke" and since he's on a roll maybe see how Gordon does on the outside. Or do as you suggest and sign Samuel. Good to see that Allen is getting creative and putting someone like Brisker in the middle of the field to "roam" more. That's a dangerous proposition for opposing players.
  13. There's a strong possibility everything will come down to the last two weeks of the regular season. The primary competitor the Bears have for that final wildcard spot is SF, who has one of the easier schedules in the league, but MIN and CAR could also be in the mix. If the Bears really want to get in, a win against MIN this week and a win against SF later in the season would be the best way to go about securing that playoff spot. It would really suck if the Bears finish with the same record as either MIN or SF and lose a tiebreaker that keeps them out. They have an opportunity to potentially deliver a knockout blow to the Vikings with a win on Sunday to push them to 4-6. They could only afford to lose maybe 1 more game the rest of the way to realistically have a shot, which seems dubious.
  14. Gotta think this is more about 'body of work' not just what he's (Baker) doing this year. If you consider how he stumbled out of the blocks (himself a 1st round overall pick) and since playing for the Bucs (some years later) he's gotten them to the playoffs the first two years he's been there and gotten a Pro Bowl nod for the first time, that weighs heavily I would think.
  15. I think Gardner could well stick around next year as a safety for us.
  16. I don't believe Gardner has ever been a CB. He's played Safety and NB, but not corner. Gordon played outside corner in college, but never in the pro's. I didn't notice it in real-time, but I did here on the Hoge and Jahns podcast they mentioned how Allen was using Gardner some as a safety, along with Byard, and having Brisker in the box as an extra DB. It's another unique wrinkle that I think we'll see more of when Gordon comes back. You might see more Dime coverage, too, although that would really hurt the Bears already porous run defense. Whatever the case, you can't keep him off the field as long as he continues to play this way. I would really love to see them sign Asante Samuel Jr this week to give us even more reinforcements.
  17. For clarity, I meant in regards to Caleb as QB1. Yesterday was the first time the Bears unquestionably won because of the quarterback, in my opinion. You could argue last week too, although I thought that game was just as much about the run game as the QB play. I do agree that his decision making still leaves some to be desired. I don't have as much of a problem with him choosing to use his legs vs throwing the ball, because throwing it introduces more variables into the equation in ways that just running for the first down (if you know you can get it) don't. Particularly in a game where his receivers were dropping everything, I was fine with those decisions. I didn't care for the deep TD attempt to DJ Moore on a 3rd (or was it a 4th down play?) when he had Burden wide open for the easy first down underneath. Those are the ones where he needs to be smarter and not be as aggressive when you are in those critical do or die downs, and the priority has to be ensuring you move the chains.
  18. Weather is going to play a factor down the stretch. The Bears have 4 home games left, one in GB and one in PHI. So 6 potentially cold weather games.
  19. I remember when Brian Daboll was making the rounds as the new hot OC ready to make his mark as an HC. He was considered the can't-miss candidate after gaining huge accolades for his work as Buffalo's OC. I was wishing the Bears would hire him.
  20. It would be so funny if the Kafka led Giants beat the Packers next week in NY.
  21. Yeah, he looks healthy. It would be amazing if they could sign Asante Samuel Jr.
  22. Montez Sweat is back. Has 5.5 sacks, 2 FFs, 4 PDs, 8 TFL, 9 QB hits. 26 pressures so far this year. Should be able to reach double digit sacks.
  23. You're right. I always remember him leaving a man he's covering wide open, usually resulting in a 1st down, big play, or TD. I tend to forget his positive contributions. My bad.
  24. Bears are wrecking coaching staffs around the league, Daboll the last victim:
