Week 7 Official Game Thread - NE at CHI, TNF, OCT 22nd, 7:15PM, CHI -3, O/U 50.5, Amazon Prime
That GB game definitely skewers those numbers. There have been a fair share of lopsided wins and like last night (and ours against ATL) lopsided scores until the losing team makes up a lot of ground to scarily close the gap. I feel this will be more like a 3-7 pt win for whomever wins it. Slightest of edges to Bears. Meanwhile some concerning news on Jonah Jackson. Hip flexor currently ruled “week to week”. And “doubtful” for Thursday. Trade Deadline...
Must’ve had too much whiskey when I posted; first off it’s Shannon (not Sterling) and yes you are correct that you didn’t directly compare the two. ASSumptions were made that if Rome was traded then a player like Walker would pick up the slack. My bust…

The Bears have given up the highest number of explosives on defense, 32nd in the NFL against the pass and 31st overall. Patriots are 5th in explosives, so they are going to have to play over the top with 2 deep to shut this down.

A 5-2 team with 5 home and 5 away games remaining has a 85% chance at making the playoffs. That drops to 65% at 4-3. So this game has a 20% swing in playoff odds.

No. I watched him for a bit against KC and while he still hustled to the ball he didn’t look like anything special. My trade target would be a young sticky CB.

Blitz Rate
Caleb is facing the highest blitz rate in the Next Gen Stats era (since 2018). Right now his Blitz Rate is 53.1%, but even with that he still has a CPOE of +6.9% and EPA/DB of +0.23 which is insane. For a full season as qualified starters, the two highest Blitz rates and only QBs within 10% of Caleb's are Newton in 2020 and Mariota in 2022, yet neither of them was successful that season: Newton 2020 -1.4% CPOE -0.07 EPA/DB Mariota 2022 -0.9% CPOE -0.04 EPA/DB Both had slightly below-average seasons with that high of a blitz rate. The blitz rate has impacted Caleb's ability to throw downfield, but that has actually helped him play on time and get the ball out of his hands quicker. Now that he is mastering that, but can still play outside of structure and extend plays, they are making him even that much more difficult to defend.

The Bears need to take care of business at home. GB is playing at DET, so either way, one of those teams is leaving with a loss. For Conference competition, SEA is playing KC, so a SEA loss would give the Bears a 2-game cushion on a Wild Card spot with every team from the NFC North making it in. If the season ended today, the playoffs would look like: GB @ NYG CHI @ CAR DET @ MIN A Bears win and GB loss, Bears would move into the #5 Seed and play the weakest Division winner. That seems like the sweet spot. The NFC North Division winner gets a home game, but would have the toughest opponent Wild Card weekend. The #5 and #6 seed are guaranteed to play the Division winners from the East and South.

Big game this Thursday. Patriots are a very good team, albeit a bit banged up, with an elite young qb. Bears are similar. Would be awesome to beat the defending Super Bowl runners up! Let’s go Bears!!!

Kyler Gordon Returns
Welcome back Kyler Gordon. I apologize for being upset with you and watching you playout DAs vision will be exciting. Maybe being more transparent could be beneficial when you are under the scope, so maybe find a better way to do that with the team and fans to save some criticism.

Williams vs Maye Johnson vs Vrabel+Russini Efficiency-wise, these teams are basically identical: EPA/Play CHI OFF -0.03 vs NE DEF -0.07 = -0.10 NE OFF 0.00 vs CHI DEF -0.11 = -0.11 They are also within 1% of each other on offense and defense for QB Pressure Rate. Thru 6 games, the Bears are 2nd in Offensive Yardage, NE is 4th. NE has the slight edge in Passing, CHI slight edge rushing. CHI averages 25 PPG, NE averages 22.7. The defenses have allowed basically the same amount of yards (within 9 yards). CHI has allowed 21 fewer 1st Downs. NE averages 18.8 and CHI averages 19.8. NE is 1-2 on the road, 13-10 loss in SEA, 35-6 loss in JAX, and a 29-26 win in BUF. CHI is 2-1 at home, wins against PHI and NYJ, and the loss to MIN in the monsoon. The home/away seems to favor CHI slightly. NE is coming in with a 3-game win streak (BUF, LVR, NYJ). NE is 1-1 on TNF in the last two years, both against NYJ. CHI is 0-2 from 2024 (Flusera), losing to DET on Thanksgiving (to Ben Johnson no less) and to SEA 6-3 in Week 17 (team was already checked out). Those games don't feel relevant. However, the home team wins 66% of the TNF games since 2023 (33-17). That is a significant number. I don't like how even this game is though, but CHI gets all the benefits of TNF at home. It feels like injuries and the officials will play a huge part in the outcome. If the Bears play anywhere close to what they did against ATL, I like the Bears by 10. Otherwise it is going to be a squeaker within 3 and could go either way. Bears 30-20.

Trade Deadline...
Dang Skip. How did I compare him to Rome? I simply stated that some players could pick up the slack and that some are starving.

Trade Deadline...
Sterling man! Did you not see how he self-destructed yesterday? He was ejected from the game for Pete’s sake. And besides the TD he scored followed by that sweet air-walk late last season, what has he done to significantly contribute to the offense? Don’t get me wrong, a huge fan but when it comes to comparing him to Rome it’s apples to oranges.

Absolutely, yes.

Trade Deadline...
Don't kill the messenger! I'm trading Rome before the deadline. Burden, Walker, Raymond, Kmet, Loveland and Thomas can handle the load. Every game I watch, Walker is doing something well. He needs more snaps. He's also a big, athletic receiver. Another of the main reasons I let him go is because Caleb, Rome and Luther will be up for extensions the same year. $$. Lastly, Kmet and Loveland are starving for chances.

Week 6 Official Game Thread - CHI @ ATL
What a performance yesterday. It’s been a long time where I’m watching a game against a decent team and thought we would easily win the game. The only issue was the starters being rested in the 4th quarter. It’s been ages since a QB has played this well. The last time I can remember was a couple of stretches when Cutler looked the real thing. When we get players back, we could be a team that goes deep in the playoffs. Would anyone bring back Khalil Mack? This was suggested in the Bradshaw, Long, etc. after the game.

Does Ben Have a Tell?...
I think his offensive system is hard to prepare for if you don't get to see him often because more than half the league runs some variation of the Shanahan/McVay concepts. Ben's offense is unique. Teams in the division have played against him for years. He's not able to catch them by surprise. I also think it comes down to talent. The Bears don't have the same top end, elite players that Ben had in Detroit. We don't have an Amon Ra, a Jamison Williams, or a Gibbs. Few do, which is why the Lions are still as good as ever on offense, because they've had more talent than anybody over the last half decade. The Bears skill position players are inexperienced and inconsistent.

Week 6 Official Game Thread - CHI @ ATL
Good: Caleb Williams: accurate, took care of the football Kyler Gordon: single handily wrecked the game on defense, major impact player when healthy Tory Taylor: another banana ball forced fumble Bad: Ben Johnson in the 4th quarter: can't rest starters with that much time left Run game is non-existent without Monangai: Swift is either not healthy or just bad right now Too many fumbles by our ball carriers: Every week someone else takes their turn putting the ball on the ground in a critical moment. Enough! The officiating, took away at least 70-80 more passing yards from phantom penalties. The OPI on Loveland on 4th down was atrocious. Quick thoughts: Gordon's blitzing makes this defense dangerous with a lead. Caleb Williams took a few bad sacks, but otherwise played smart football. Didn't have to do too much. The short stuff was working today. Atlanta had to respect Caleb's arm. Next week's game is big. There's an opportunity to stack some wins with Tampa Bay and New Orleans coming up in 2 out of the next 3 games after next week. Have to get this one first.

I watched Atlanta game against Baltimore last week. You can’t come away from that game without knowing we have the better team in all phases. Baltimore did well to contain Bijan but they gave up a lot more in the passing game than we did. Dennis Allen continues to show he can get the most out of the talent he has on the field. Caleb and Ben make 31 pts feel like we left a lot on the field.

Huge huge game and great win. Caleb played his best game as a pro as a pure qb. He has had more electric games with big plays but this was just beautiful execution outside of taking a couple first down sacks that he had to get rid of it. Excellent performance and great to have him back. Defense was stellar - Kyler was electric but Lewis played well and everyone was swarming. Penalties were awful - between that and Roschon fumble we almost ruined a great day. I’d also say these refs were pretty weak. But bears have to clean up the little stuff. Fantastic to see ball spread all around today and in particular great to see Loveland get involved early and often. That TD catch was great.

I didnt catch it, but at one point before half Caleb and Ben were arguing on sideline. I missed it, but was told they think its because Caleb was handcuffed from running with the ball. He needed protection from that on a short week.

He said exactly that during his post game ball acceptance . About 1/2 way through this video. Important for the team to hear stuff like that .
